Alien: Romulus 2 still needs a director – Demián Rugna denies sequel involvement

Alien: Romulus 2 still needs a director – Demián Rugna denies sequel involvement

The hunt for a director for the Alien: Romulus sequel is still on! Despite rumors circulating earlier this month that Demián Rugna might be involved, Rugna himself has denied any involvement – dispelling the rumor and leaving the position of director still open on Fede Alvarez's folllow-up! Demián laid the rumor to rest while speaking to Omlete, to which he clarified:

I heard the rumor. It’s truly flattering, and I love the idea, but there’s nothing to it. Just a comment from Fede Álvarez. It’s fantastic that they’re linking me to that, but I wish it were true and I didn’t have to say there’s nothing to it.

Cameras were supposed to begin rolling on Alien: Romulus 2 (unofficial title) next month, but with no director yet attached, the likelihood of that seems rather slim now.

Other rumors began making the rounds last month after Fede Alvarez shocked fans everywhere when he announced his departure as director on the Romulus sequel. It was suggested that Fede and Ridley Scott clashed on creative differences, however no clarification has been made to dispell these rumors yet. The initial claim was that Fede wanted to incorporate Michael Fassbender's David into the storyline for Alien: Romulus 2 and that conflicted with plans Scott already had in place for his own next Alien prequel installment which would also see a reprisal of Fassbender's David. That heavy rumor got a lot of us talking, but neither Alvarez or Scott have made any public acknowledgements regarding those claims and they remain unclear for the time being.

Not too long before Fede announced his relinquishing of directorial duties on Romulus 2, Ridley Scott was quoted mentioning interest in revisiting his Alien prequels recently however, suggesting that if he had the right idea, he would "for sure" make another one. Coincidence? Perhaps...

As it stands, we don't know who will direct the next Alien movie, when it will actually start filming or when it will hit theaters. But now that Alien: Earth season 1 has concluded, we're sure the ball will get rolling on the Alien: Romulus sequel soon.

Seems the project not having much progression. It's October already and there is no news about new director at all.    : (

Agreed, it's been quiet on the Romulus sequel front... I wonder if they'll be dropping something near Christmas. That's when Prometheus began it's hype train and Covenant was marketed in the Fall too. Perhaps they're just moving very quietly... or maybe Scott put a pause on it to revisit his Alien prequels...

I wouldn't mind waiting a bit if it meant a we got another Alien prequel with Scott at the helm.

Yes I am also looking forward to any Alien prequel news. Given that we now have the Pokemon Xenomorph in Alien Earth lol, I think fans kind of get tired with the creature and more eager to go back to the space again created by Sir Ridley.

I absolutely think the series will only further fuel the "creature fatigue" and start to shift interest back into the world-building backstory Scott set out to expand on with his prequels.

Not too sure about that, I would probably grow tired of the androids if I would watch it.
