Everybody is excited about the upcoming release of the movie Alien: Covenant. Alien is a giant franchise with movies, comics and games. Gaming is a huge part of the franchise, and generates a lot of money because fans of the movies love to carry on the adventure themselves in gameplay. The first game from the franchise was released in 1982 and developed by Fox Video Games. Since then, there have been over 20 various games released. Here are our hopes for gaming tie-ins from the new movie
It would be amazing if the Royal Vegas Australian casino were to use Alien: Covenant for one of their themed slot machines. The Royal Vegas Australian casino already has some themed pokies from popular movies and television, like Tomb Raider and Battle Star Galactia themed online pokies. With the ardent success and large following of the Alien franchise, it would be a great business opportunity for them to team up with the creators of Alien: Covenant in order to make a themed pokies game for the fans to enjoy. Another option for the online casino platform would be to create themed scratch card game based on the movie. Online scratch card games typically do not use movies as themes as pokies do, but there is no good reason as to why they should not! Scratch card games are gaining popularity, and it would be a pioneering moment in the online gaming industry.
We also want to see some cool multiplayer games that are available on all major gaming platforms: PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and mobile phones. Some of the previous games released from the Alien franchise have not been compatible with all platforms. This is problematic as not everyone has access to more than one type of gaming device. It is also frustrating for fans when a game is not available on their preferred gaming device. This was an issue in some of the earlier games released, but has largely been resolved, except for widening the availability of games to mobile phones and tablets.
It would be great to also see some more related games. The fact that Alien and Predator are playable characters in Minecraft is something that fans found really exciting. It would be a good idea if there was an updated version of this made available to tie in with the release of Alien: Covenant. As with the idea for themed slots, this focuses on merging Alien: Covenant with an existing and already loved game. While we still love games that are purely based on the movies, like Aliens: Colonial Marines, and Aliens vs. Predator, it is a fresh and exciting thing to have a movie joining a game you already know, and love as much as the movie. Having said this, we still are hoping for a game directly linked to the plot of Alien: Covenant. Some Alien franchise games have not fared as well as expected in the past, and have received criticism for having a weak story line, and awkward gameplay that was paired with subpar controls. We hope that these types of problems will be thought about and addressed when making an Alien: Covenant game for us all to enjoy.
