That Egg in Alien 3

MemberOvomorphFebruary 21, 20125465 Views43 RepliesHi guys and gals, first post so forgive me if this has been debated here before but having just watched all 3 Alien movies back to back (you'll notice I said 3!!!), it still bothers me immensely where the hell that egg or eggs came from and how they got on the Sulaco at the start of the movie.
I've heard numerous ideas from other fans such as the queen laying them in the drop ship or that Bishop brought them with him. The most surreal suggestion being that a team of Spec ops arrived on LV 426 before the marines and obtained the eggs and then placed them on board while everyone was in cryo!!!!!
I wish the writers could just explain this as it has a huge bearing on the overall franchise and as it stands it's a bit of a plot hole!
Anyone any thoughts? again, I'm new so sorry if this has been debated before.

Craigo.....I like that.....makes me sound like an Eggo.......
I see you're point, but that's always been too convoluted and too involved to be reasonable for me....there's no evidence to suggest it and in 'Alien 3', we have no idea the extent of the company's network in deep space or Fiorina's proximity to any other planets, spacestations or military outposts (that would otherwise have no reason to visit Fiorina).....I see what you mean, but it just feels like a poor excuse for a band-aid on any plot holes we quibble over....
I really do like that Craigo bit.....

And there's no reason for them to send the Nostromo if they have an R&D vessel either, it would be pointless, especially considering the tug's inadequacies in dealing with that kind of find..........the R&D vessel's crew would just go in themselves rather than risk any interference from crew on the Nostromo that would, of course, be trying to save their own lives. Why would they risk that threat to their prized alien specimen? There's no point in it...unless they had no other choice because the Nostromo was the only ship in a position to investigate....

Craigo,
I think its all part of the companies xeno study program. Why send the R&D Ship and waste resources when the government will do it for you for free.
Read this:
I once read a story about a kid that went to jail for killing somebody but was still close to his grandpa and his grandpa never believed he did it. His grandpa wrote him letters everyday and one spring day the old guy wrote a letter to his grandson about how it had been several years and how he missed his help with the gardening in the backyard and was going to start digging up the garden. The grandson sent him a letter the next day asking him to not to dig up the garden that was where he hid the body. The next day the FBI and the police came beating on the old guys door and served him with a search warrant to dig up the garden. The came in with the shovels and dug up that whole garden area. The following week the old man received a letter from his grandson apologizing for the intrusion by the police but that was the best he could do on such short notice.
I know you get the moral of the story there is always a sideways approach to getting what you want done accomplished when you think outside the box.
Regards,
Rick

OK, I don't know if this has already been discussed here, but the the whole egg on the Sulaco thing was set up at the end of Aliens. If you watch Aliens to the very end of the credits, James Cameron put a little audio suprise at the end of the movie. Listen carefully and you will hear the sound of an egg opening and a face-hugger emerging. Mr. Cameron had intended to film a sequel to Aliens, and this was how he set it up. I am sure that had his sequel been made, he had already figured out a plot device to explain this little suprise at the end of Aliens.

Guys...no sense arguing and debating where it came from. It was from the Plot Hole Abyss...where things happen without an explanation. It will be one of those mysteries until someone explains it but it has all been forgotten now....a lesson for writers every where and film makers...always back up what you shoot and do your best to explain it or you will lose the reader or audience faster than Vanilla Ice lost his career. =)

This is something that has bugged me for years too as it is not explained clearly.
My conclusion: The one egg came up with the Queen. I read somewhere that when the Queen is in a situation that threatens the extinction of the Xenonmorph she can produce a Queen egg. This special egg houses a facehugger that contains 2 embryos, a Queen embyo and a Warrior embyo. When hatched the Warrior (in this case from a dog) will protect the host of the Queen during its gestation period which is longer than that of a regular Alien gestation period.
So the Queen stuck this emergency Queen egg on the ceiling of the Suluco and somehow it detects movement in the cryochambers and the Facehugger investigates........
Burke never made it back to the Sulaco...he never had the chance to put one there...........
Has to be incorrect IMO because he clearly knew his way around that section of the ship, CLEARLY...so much so he actually backed his way into that area when he got eaten. Also this all heppened moments after he had gotten caught dumping two live specimens in Newt's & Ripley's sleeping qtrs...
NO... IMO it was and could ONLY have been done by BURKE..it is the ONLY explanation that makes any sense what so ever!

Could have been Bishop. As an Synthetic Humanoid he could well have been controlled by the company without realising it. When he disapeared for a while whilst piloting the drop ship, he could well have simply stowed a face hugger and egg onboard, whilst Ripley was rescueing Newt. Hicks was unconsious so no one would have known. His inbuilt programming to protect all humans would have prevented him from leaving Ripley and Newt, but not from securing specimens to take back.....
Perhaps he thought that the humans on the Sulaco would be safe from the Huggers as they were in Cryo....

But that doesn't work @brego...if he's working for the company, then everyone is expendable again and there's no point in him taking Ripley to save newt....he would have just said adios....don't you think?

How about this - It's a SCI-FI film - IT'S NOT REAL PEOPLE! IT'S FICTION! Who cares? Bad writers need to make money too!

In see that point re Bishop Craigmore, however Bishop was not working for the company, he was a Colonial Marine staffer, I believe. Perhaps the company hacked into his system to ensure that Xeno samples were brought back. Of course this plan didnt work, as we know.
I dont believe that a Queen could have laid eggs or carried them onto the drop ship. So the only way would be for someone else to smuggle them on board. The only person is Bishop.
Remember the scene (reminicent to Ash) where Bishop is studying the dead Facehugger in Med Lab, hes almost in a trance... I reckon that Bishop was being used by the Company. Also Bourke and Bishop explain that it is impossible for an Android to hurt humans as it is written in their code not to.
Its the only logical explaination.
Having said that, I like the mystery surounding tnhe upside down egg.

stupid really all they had to do was show facehuggers 2 of them no eggs at all... one facehugger could of got trapped and only free when the ship crashed.

Thought I would let you guys know that the upcoming Gearbox game : Aliens Colonial Marines takes place between the flims Aliens and Alien3. If you watch the second video (The one from E3) you will hear them talk about how this game is going to fill in all the "Plot Gaps" between the 2 films including how the eggs ended up on the Sulaco at the beginning of Alien 3.

Hope this helps.

After the great transitiom from alien to aliens the transtion to the 3rd was very weak, great to read about the dubious egg on the EEV, which has always bugged me when watching the films. What I felt what was also weak, the EEV which came from an intergallactic military warship with all the weaponary, had no weapons in the survival pod????. Ok the thing which made number 3 was the lack of weapoms after the gunho aliens, but surely weaopons would be mandatory.
