SJ Ship is the Derelict

The Space Jockey ship we will see in Prometheus IS the derelict. I have downloaded every trailer that has been released for Prometheus and have just rewatched the original trailer that was released back in december and compared it to the new trailers... THE SHAPE AND ORIENTATION OF THE DERELICT HAS CHANGED Heres the old version of the Derelict from the december trailer... And heres the new version of the Derelict from the UK trailer... And heres the original Derelict from the 1979 Alien... In the original trailer the Derelict looked more angular and sharper, much to the fans dis-satisfaction, and started the debate that it wasn't the same ship from Alien. Yet in the new trailers the ship is more bulbous and organic looking, and is positioned 180 degrees the other way round. Obviously the fans voices have been heard and the Derelict was changed to better look like the Derelict from Alien. Thus IMHO this is the Derelict from Alien, and this is LV-426/Archeron.

Not really i guess it all depends when it appears in the film and the rest of the events leading up to and after like i said i'm unsure we shall see in due course.

I'm surprised at you snorks, not like you to make a completely unsubstantiated statement. This has been discussed to death and I only opened the thread because your profile pic was on it. Have you any evidence, pics, data etc...... to support this claim? I would genuinely like it to be proven either way.

Damon Lindelof (March 2012) "If there were a sequel to this movie, it would not be 'Alien,'" insists Lindelof. "There's an inevitability, in watching a prequel, where you're like, 'OK, if the ending of this movie is just going to be the room that John Hurt walks into, that's full of eggs, there's nothing interesting in that because we know where it's going to end.' With really good stories, you don't know where it's going to end. So this movie, hopefully, will contextualize the original 'Alien,' so that when you watch it again, maybe you know a little bit more." But, Lindelof adds, "If we're fortunate enough to do a sequel to 'Prometheus,' it will tangentialize even further away from the original 'Alien.'

Yawn. What FAMISHED said. I'd bet my left testicle that it IS NOT the derelict.

Pictures have been added for proof, enjoy... @ Famished - well obviously, theres what approximately 37 years between Prometheus and Alien, thus a lot to play around it. But the difference in the Derelict in the new trailer is undeniable!

Damn I knew the shape and look had changed somewhat but seeing them on top of each other is awesomeness :-D and I have to add, that I think the ending of Prometheus will set it up for the crew of the Nostromo to find that ship later on. I agree with Snork. This is a pre-story to the events in Alien.

Very interesting snok ....if the movie dont prove me otherwise , thats an alien prequel , point . i wonder if they will make other changes ( to the chair for example ) to make them look more alienish ....

Hello i'm new, wanted to share a thought. Based on what i red, i get the impression that Prometheus is not about Alien mainly. Before the end of the movie that derelict could crash and serve as the beginning of Alien. But that wouldn't be the end of the movie but follow another path that "will tangentialize even further away from the original 'Alien." Just an idea, it would make Alien a side story.

Nice find Snorkelbottom. I made an animation of the difference just for the heck of it:

I agree with snork 100% Why make movie about the a ship that looks incredibly similar to the derelict from ALIEN, same SJ chair, same wayland company and so on.. It must scare people who think there will be a Prometheus sequel.

I Agree Frantz, I always thought the first image looked like an unfinished Photoshop pic that didn't fit in with other crashing derelict scene.

So if it's the same ship from Alien how do the eggs not topple over?

Thats awesome Snork! I knew it looked more detailed in the new trailers but I didn't realise how different it actually looks. It makes you wonder how other things we have seen in the trailers may end up being completely different when the movie comes out.

can be a mutation just like the wall ?? nahh ....btw is strange , it mean that someone said "hey guys on the forums they say that the SJs ship is a way too different from the original ..change it ... " or maybe Giger didnt gave his permission to use the same "architecture" ?

You are comparing 2 images of the crashed ship from the Promethus trailer and not to the original film. If you compare it to the derelict in Alien the position of the ship is totally wrong. Alien - the ship crashed at an angle, like it was attempting to land. Not to mention the rocky outcrop it has crashed into Prometheus - it's head on collision in a barren area. No rocks. @ TNLV426 - The Derelict in Prometheus doesn't crash head on it rolls, and most likely topples over to be the position it is in Alien! The image were we all thought the derelict has stood upright (see the image for "The Cast" at the top of the page), is probably the ship taking off from its underground hangar.

What if the ship is like a living organism that can change and even heal? I wouldn't be surprised if it changed form then. Maybe it only needs to merge with a living driver to fly. Who knows, maybe we all assume the SJs are important, but maybe these ships are the main characters. Even the Xenos always make ship-like tunnels wherever they nest, maybe they're trying to replicate 'home'?

This is confusing, because everything I see in the trailers tells me the new image is the wrong one. Footage of the collision shows the derelict falling into a rotation which if continued would match the landing of the ship as shown in the original image. There is just enough time in the trailers to show the ship rocking left to right on impact, and then in another sequence, rolling onto the end of the same arm. Finally, if we're expecting the ship to finally come to rest, falling away from camera as we look at these images, the second ship would end up on its roof!
