What is the human-sized biomechanical thing attacking Shaw?

MemberOvomorphApril 09, 20123064 Views63 RepliesAt 11:39 of the super slo-mo trailer you can see a human-sized character attacking Shaw. This character is obviously human-sized, but it has a pattern on it's legs very similar to that of the blue guy in the chair chamber.
Is this David having been commandeered by the SJs/Engineers and "modified" by their technology?
Or is it the mutated crew member? Could there be a mechanized component to his mutation?
What do you guys think?

Bonus Situation... you are micro-managing this thing. Nobody knows what the direction of this movie will be except for the creators! Until then....

I think it is a "blue guy" attacking or confronting shaw. I don't think it is David or any other crew member. I do think it is impossible to really tell. One thing I kind of think is that scene is around the same time you see that shot of shaw with an ax. If shaw did try to fight it off with a big ax and it didn't back off or the creature just took it from her and knocked her down I think that creature is going to be a tough hombre.

It's pretty presumptuous to believe that there is only one David8. Contrary to assumption, I'd imagine the many possibilities for this character to offer an amazing opportunity for an actor--any actor.
And Tom Skerrit was presumed to be the hero of Alien. Don't think for a second that Scott doesn't know how effective it was in Alien to unbalance the audience by knocking him off so early in the film.
Regardless, if you are talking about DNA manipulation, and DNA manipulation combined with a machine mind, all bets are off. That's not stupid, that is science fiction doing what it does best.
Transformation? You mean like how the chestburster became the full Xeno? I forget that scene.
Listen, I have no idea what is going on in that scene, but anyone guessing one way or another, is just guessing.

I appreciate all the back and forth about David going rogue, but what do you guys think about the resemblance of this creature to the big guy in the chair chamber and what do you think about the size difference between Shaw and it? Is there resemblance? Is it human sized? Those were the reasons I posted.
I think of all the photos/scenes we have where size is an issue, this may be the least ambiguous. Remember, Noomi is pretty small. Her leg is in between the creatures two legs witch puts them extremely close. For their lower legs and knees to appear roughly the same size, a 13' creature would have to be a lot farther away.
Yes, no?

And, that scenario didn't seem so clunky when Wikus jumped into the mecha. Not to me anyway. I loved that part of District 9. Not clunky at all.
April 09, 2012
Man, was super excited for District 9 and loved it. Remember the first preview when you totally thought it was a political movie about poverty/refugees in Africa...then you see the ship? I think I may have pissed myself, can't remember for sure.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Maybe that's our only glimpse to date of something he is saving. He doesn't show the face, I wonder what the significance of that is.

lol@bonus situation awesome name, made me lol...hows it going with that? forfeiting shares?

Is Bonus Situation a fired cast member from Jerseyshore??? Snooky broke up with him and now he has to come fight with us!!!! We will babysit you if you need it.However,Sigourney Weaver was an unknown FEMALE when Ridley broke the rules of Hollywood and made her the protagonist.Plus John Hurt and Tom Skerrit were the A-List stars in the film and they were the first ones to die.In a way that worked because the mold was broken-If the stars die, then who will survive????Adds to the suspense.

@Bonus Situation.....I suggest you do a lot more reading about Michael Fassbender before coming to a conclusion he's in this to be seen. Quite frankly, he's in this to work with Ridley Scott and has said as much. You're insulting him as a person and actor saying he's not willing to change and morph physically for his work.....seen 'Hunger'? Do you know any of his films outside of Prometheus and perhaps 'shame'? Read about HIM and what he's willing to to before spouting off....you clearly not informed about this actor.
April 09, 2012
To "change and physically morph" is one thing. To be replaced by a different actor in a suit halfway through the feature is another.
This is business. Fassbender is a business man. He is not going to play a character that virtually disappears part-way through the film.
David is not going to magically change into a "Space Jockey". There is no evidence for this, none. No shots of him in any degree of transformation. No reason for it, but lots of reasons against it.

@Bonus Situation
Unless you're Fassbender's agent, you don't know squat about what part he might or might not play, or for what reason he might or might not play it. Guess this role was all about showing his pretty face, huh?

lol
April 09, 2012
Thank you artyoh. I meant to use Hunger as an example as well. He doesn't end up 'pretty' now does he? He's an actor, FFS, and truly gifted actors just want it to come across as realistic in the movie. This was not about vanity. Everybody give him some credit man. He's much more than a pretty face.l
April 09, 2012
Ridiculous.
Fassbender should fire his agent if he got him a part for only half a film.
Duh, in the photo above there is no mistaking that is Fassbender. The trend in Fassbender's career has been to show more of him, not less. Does not matter if his character looks handsome, pretty, or if he looks like hell. You still see the man and know it is him.
He's not going to agree to a part in which he is replaced by an entirely different actor in a suit.
Not going to happen.
It's quite a different thing when anything resembling Fassbender disappears half way through a film, never to return.
It is a stupid concept to have David somehow transform into an alien. Just stupid. There is absolutely no evidence for this. You are going on pure speculation with nothing to support it.

@Bonus - Um, with all do respect, ignoring all the other arguments that have been going back and forth, the creature attacking Shaw in the hallway is absolutely human sized. I don't have a shot of the big Blue in the Star Map room at the moment but I have seen it several times in other posts as well as frame by frame in the trailer. Their is also a shot of the Blue's hand as he is approaching another female crew member who is paralyzed with fear and is looking up (I don't buy the mind control thing, guys, its just the angle of the camera as its moving), and the hand is huge, because it belongs to something huge. If you look at the first image, one of the creature's hands is grabbing Shaw by the collar. The second image is proof of the creature's human size. If you can't believe what your own eyes are telling you, than I don't know what else to say; you're gonna believe what you want to believe.

@ Bonus Situation.....ends here. I cannot debate with someone who uses "duh" in their argument. Get back to me when you are capable of intelligent debate.

Definitely human sized. A good sized human, but human sized none the less. Anyone who ever studied life drawing could tell from the proportions, the angle, the distance between the two figures.
And the hands are naked, and you can tell where the sleeves end. That's a suit that being is wearing.
It's probably Holloway. There is resonance there, this confrontation between him and Shaw, drama. Basic storytelling. Or maybe the blue guys have wildly diverging heights, like humans. Maybe this guy is the Danny Devito of his race.
