David8 Has A Crush On Shaw?

aka Nate
MemberOvomorphApril 30, 20122379 Views32 RepliesI know, I know.... But I couldn't help notice in the UK trailer that David's got his funky Google Glasses on and he's looking down at Shaw's cryo-tube and he removes the tint to see through to her....
....maybe nothing, right? But immediately following that quick shot, we see the entire crew's cryo-tube lids opening to wake and everyone has their yellow/green neon tint....
....or maybe he does that to every crew member.....would make for wicked tension with Holloway's character though.

@Myrddin365....I don't know that Holloway treats him with contempt. Holloway just seems incredibly cocky all around.

You have to wonder how much contact they really had together before hypersleep, though. I'm guessing there was a bit of training where they were together enough for him to have a "preconceived" (preMovie) longing for Shaw, huh?

Nate, Abordoli,
Actually, there are "ridleygrams" showing a scene were Ripley enters an "observation dome" in Nostromo and have sex with Dallas:

But this never made into film, novelization or even script.
These are some reflections I put about these "ridleygrams" in an older thread in this forum:
"You can see that the position of Dallas is totally similar to the position of the SJ in the derelict. If the scene was ever filmed, the parallel would be almost impossible to pass unremarked.
Personally, I think the idea of an observation dome with a telescope and a chair is completely out of place in a scenario of advanced technology, but it´s insertion in the movie was tailored to convey to the audience the feeling that although alien, the SJ technology was functionally similar to earthiling´s ."

@Myrddin365... Yeah, Shaw does seem kind of like the naive sweetheart and perhaps mixed with her be all sexy and junk, David is a little randy for her in his own artificial humanoid kind of way...
@IrishAndroid1, I have a feeling Holloway is a bit of a dick to David due to #1 he looks at David as a hardware rather than an emotional individual and #2, yes, in general Holloway comes off like a arrogant douche...
And concerning Vickers character, I think she's probably distrusting of David for some reason.... I think Vickers is gonna be more of a protagonist than we all think

vickers seems to be emotinally disturbed.
there is a clip in one of the trailers where she pushes david against the wall.
maby he read her dreams in cryo and saw what ever bagage she is carrying. and then out of pure interest brought it up.
something about her childhood, lost love ect ect..
maby he saw her so called hidden agenda aswell and threaten to expose it to the rest of the crew?
ALIENS THINK HUMANS ARE ALIENS

Korpen, that is a great thought, very good guess. I can see David leveraging her for some reason, and would be a nice bit of narrative if he knows her agenda, but hasn't told anyone.
Likely scenario, however, is that he deliberately did something that challenged her authority.

What I noticed in that scene is a distant/echoing scream that sounds like it's coming from Shaw, the kind they play in flashbacks. Listen carefully and you will hear it.
Here is a thread where someone here (Biomechanic) said David might be reading people's dreams:David Reading Dreams
Here is the deleted Ripley/Lambert scene, where Ripley asks Lambert if she slept with Ash:Ripley asks Lambert about Ash

@ svanya
can't really trust the audio on trailers. a lot gets added that's out of place.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

@Myrddin365; True, but I thought it was interesting all the same, given someone here did post a thread about it. :)

I think a lot of the appeal of the David character and the brilliance of Fassbender's performance will be portraying an "emotional uncanny valley" of sorts. Given that the David series is programmed to blend in with humans and mimic emotions to a certain degree, it is understandable that there will be times when his colleagues forget that he is a machine for long periods of time and anthropomorhise his behaviour.
I see people doing this on this site constantly, ascribing human feelings and motivations to David. What is going to be utterly flabbergasting is that moment when the audience begins to really comprehend that David is not even remotely human at all, but an intelligence in some ways more alien that those they encounter on LV-223.
His emotions are entirely artificial and for human comfort only. His motivations are known only to him and possibly the late Peter Weyland. No, David will not be magically transformed by any goo - he is a fucking robot after all. But what we WILL discover throughout the events of this film is that David is an inhuman, monstrous creature in his own right.

I dont think that will be the case at all with David,... there is no reason for him to have any objective other than to maintain the mission which at that point in time is completely justified by the fact that the explorers on that particular mission are on a voyage of discovery, an invitation is what is presumed why should the company risk an untested and potential dangerous situation by programming agendas into david other then what everyone else would anticipate on the ship. Its fair enough to anticipate the company having some sort of contingency plan for any potential danger but what can you possibly come up with to tackle something as unique as alien morality and developments upon meeting such a situation like that.
Yes weyland has the ambition of a megalomaniac, but at this point other than precautionary measures of the mission and the great unknown itself , i'm of the understanding this marks the company's first encounter with anything inhuman /alien but we shall see .
There is the slim possibility ridley has taken on board the avp debacle but i doubt it.
