Alien: Earth and Alien: Romulus sequel news

People seem to be confused.

While this is my first post on this site, I've been spending most of my time reading some great discussion pieces on here since this site was first up. There's just one thing that is bothering me to the ends of the earth about some people's understanding of the engineers/SJs, in that quite a few of you seem to be under the impression that the engineers and SJs are two separate entities, when anyone who has even the slightest idea about the Alien/Prometheus world should surely know they are one and the same being. Just two different names have been created for them. Discuss.

i think they're three different things...maybe four. I think the spaces and the jockeys are two different races and the engin and eers are another two. I'll fight anyone that disagrees.

@ iaepetus, are you back without the proper ''spoiler'' package. You have just completely obliterated my anticipatory expectancy for this film. Just joking... good to hear from you. Take care everyone.

I know that people that thinks othewise is being ridiculed in this thread but...I think it´s ever good to keep the mind open. First: concerning the leaked credits, the fact that it mentions only "engineers" besides the humans doesn´t mean a lot. The "other race" can be purely CGI. Second: I think the guys running in the hologram have a very strange gait, very different of what I would expect from the muscular blue guy. Third: the comment from Gulhermo del Toro gives pause; he explicitily seems to be suggesting that the Prometheus plot is very similar to the At The Mountains of Madness plot. This one distinguishes itself by the "russian doll" architecture: there are the Elder Things; their ex-servants and murderers, the Shoggots; the Penguins; and something else much worse lurking in the deep. For these reasons I would not be fast in thinking we have already seen what there is to be seen.

i would say there is no 'canon' (ridiculous term) for this film. ridley can do what he wants. Exactly. People approach this movie as if the post-Alien movies, books, comics, and video games mean anything to Scott other than riffs off a movie he made in 1979. This isn't Star Wars. Scott isn't George Lucas, carefully (ahem) constructing a vast storyline and guarding (ahem) the integrity and continuity of the universe he imagined. This is why I still hold my own stupid pet theory that LV-223 is LV-426. *suddenly battered with catcalls and beer cans and rotten tomatoes*

@windood Why do the SJs need to carry a threat. We already have a plethora of nasties making mincemeat of the crew in horrible ways. The only thing we know about the SJs from a Ridley Scott film is from precedent. one of them, knowing it was about to die set up a warning to prevent other suffering the same fate at the hands of a Xeon. This doesn't sound like the uncivilised race the crew find, which RS mentioned in his interview.

Paulr....I just hope that Ridley borrows at least one aspect of Star Wars and makes one of the aliens speak in a terrible Italian accent, perhaps with some funny one liners And you're wrong, so wrong, about Lv223 = Lv426.....you were doing so well up until that point. By tying in the last 8mins to Alien, he in essence respecting the canon...at least of his film

Snorkleman Bluemen My best hope is that they are different. If they are the same and the snorkleman are purely suits, then there sure as hell better be a kick-ass proto-xeno or I will be seriously bitching out Ridley.

@paulr I guess you have never seen a heavily muscled or weighed down person sprint? Looks kind of like that. And the fact that the SJs have a different kind of physique than the blue guy(s). But we shall see

@JP....I know! I know! I'm so ashamed. But really, I feel like I had justification at the time. I just didn't buy the idea floating around that the crashed derelict was going to fly back up into the air and fly off to LV-426. It looks now as if LV-426 won't even be in the movie at all. Which is fine. Anyway, I'm having to accept the fact that LV-426 won't be in the movie.

@Bandit....yes, I have. But you are comparing a hologram of beings of unknown height and weight running with...with pictures and brief clips of a being of unknown height and weight walking and standing. How can you say that they are different species based on your expectations of how this second being runs?? Imagine if I made the case that the Derelict in Prometheus is different than the Derelict in Alien because I expect the Alien Derelict (stationary) to fly differently than the Derelict in Prometheus. Know what I mean?

@ADH0983 I agree with you because what everyone has been calling for so many years "Space Jockey" is just a suit (like astronaut suits) and Engineers are the users of these biological suits. I think the big question is: Only the engineers used these costumes? o Can any other creature in Prometheus wear a suit?

Different sizes ¿? Possible explanations: Different users, different breeds of Engineers, various sizes, etc.. Different models ¿? Perhaps as noting the differences between the astronauts suits the USS Nostromo and suits of the USS Prometheus (different uses)

Hey all! seriously guys, some of your posts here literally made me laugh out loud. @Windood - man, I have been chuckling for the last 5mn after yours. The thought of everyone here mumbling to themselves 'durh! hate that movie for making me look so dumb!' It's prob the funniest thing that could happen, just for that I hope none of us is right. @Sundar - No! I swear to the Spaces, the Jockeys and the Engineers, I am back and my magazine is now WITH ME. Have been going through it quickly in the subway to spot the parts I should focus on translating now. Still have some work ahead but will make it ASAP promised! Not to make you all languish but reading some of it only just confirmed certainties I had about some bits. All in all, I have also been exchanging PMs with BugHunter (our beloved overlord here) and Viscal on his site (NightRiderLoveProvider on here). We're talking how it should best be posted/formatted so it's enjoyable for you guys. Now, for some more patience, but being French I have to post it before May 30th anyway, cause that's when the movie is released here ;P @Slip_Digby ********************** ***Possible Spoilers*** An Engineer/SJ as Prometheus, yes seems like it to me. Have elements that support that (soon, see above) and makes more sense anyway as in the myth, Prometheus is a Titan ('superior being') and Titans created humans. This tends to be confirmed by the 'tweet spoilers' too if we're to believe those, which I still do to a certain extent. Not so sure about a higher being leaving the Pandora's box open. Indeed, what's in the urns (or something like that) would be the threat. Nothing points to it being left by a higher being though. To me R. Scott probably dodged that Titan/God parallel for it would have been too much and too far from us to really relate to that (and he wants his movie to have a philosophical reach). Again, from his declaration it could happen in a sequel, but for now I highly doubt that and wish it wouldn't (unless they REALLY spin that in a clever way). ***/spoilers*** *************** To finish: ok, it's almost 1AM and I just got home so I'll probably check some stuff and start more translation tomorrow morning. Once it's posted I'll prob also start 2 other threads - one with my comments about the magazine info, one with my synthesized theory about the plot - for those who would care about my opinion. Thanks again for the interest and sympathy people! -T.

Sj=Engineer=blue meanies. One race of aliens with super-advanced, malevolently transormative technology is enough.

@paulr I was playing devil's advocate for the other commenter. The beings in both holographic do run differently, but that could be for a number of reasons. But it's not to be dismissed either. More suspect is the relationship between the blue guys and the suits they are supposedly to wear, based on build and proportions. But the main thing is, and I'm not saying you are doing this, I think some people are getting a little too bold in their proclamations here, and they're providing shaky evidence. No-one here knows enough to be able to tell anyone else 'how it is.' But we shall see.

ADH0983...I agree with you...I honestly think some people just can't accept the idea that the SpaceJockies are, after 33 years, humanoid beings wearing a suit...they just do not accept the idea....and I think that's where this all started.......

@Biehn_Bandit Hi. don't want to make it seem like I believe the world revolves around me, but I was wondering if maybe you meant that for me. I feel like it's possible cause I tend to be a bit assertive in the way I state things here. I really don't want to look like I hold some kind of greater knowledge of it all, I have only been around for a couple weeks and 2 days posting, and I am sure most here are more knowledgeable than I am about this movie, really. I apologize if my way of doing/saying things bothers some of you. I must say I appreciate debating and only state things boldly cause I expect others do to just the same so that, by clashing our ideas against one another we're stimulating the thought process and only what's stronger will remain. My critics are only meant for ideas and really not for those defending them, but I understand some people don't like it and if some want me to, I could try and tone that down in the future. cheers -T.

@iapetus No. I probably wasn't talking about you. You're comments are usually not definitive. And definitive comments are fine, but I've seen the same people get bent out of shape if some one else is too contentious or says anything less than diplomatic. You can't have it both ways.
