MemberOvomorphMay 16, 20123546 Views79 RepliesI have analysed the Prometheus ship and see here as another analogy I drew upon a few days previous was the fact that I speculated that the Prometheus ship was loosely, o.k. "LOSELY" based upon Gigers Turkey Burster 'first draft' (if you will) design of the Xenomorph's birth faze. Is the Prometheus ship in fact the metaphor for the Eagle? But the metaphor it represents appears to be hidden in plain sight. It IS the ship: Prometheus! And the 'Liver' it pecks out is the Ram manuver the crew of the ship itself impliments when it collides with The Juggernaught. For example of the Eagle metaphor:

Here you can see the 'Eagle in flight' or in a 'Nested Position' or could be in a dive-bomber mode.

The Prometheus ship is a metaphor in plain sight... Yet subtly concealed...

But its is once again clear to me that the producers of this film are interlacing it with layer upon layer of subtext and metaphorical bordering on subliminal visual yet subtle 'language' for us viewers to digest ...

...or indeed, peck at! lol!

Is it not equally fair to offer the point that you, as well as I, do not know what exact plot-turns and twists Ridley Scott has in store and deliberately put into place to wrong-foot us. It is not witten in, for want of a better term: 'Gods Gospel Stone' that the likely scenario of how the Prometheus myth is loosly designed to play out as isn't indicative that that is indeed HOW the subject matter soon-to-be-on-offer is ACTUALLY - down to the letter - going to play out as when we all finally come to see it... yes...

Yes, Tears. Very Good by the way coining the phrase: "Prometheus the (Eagle) has Landed!" Well done to you for that!
You are most probably right Tears. My observation is that this is not merely a piece of film, you have got to think of it as a piece of art, with hidden layers of metaphor and inuendo. A moving piece of art even with possible, I stress: "POSSIBLE" hidden easter-Alien-egg type suprises and nods, references to other things concepts and mythos tangents.
I mean come on people WHAT IS GIGER AND HIS WORK IF IT IS NOT INTERLACED WITH SIMMERING SEXUAL UNDER AND ESPECIALLY OVER-TONES!!!? The guy's entire work base is litterally filled to the BRIM with suggestive and equally subverise meaning, metaphor and inplied inuendo... Evidence for which, you need only browse the Necromicon and watch Alien over, and over and over and over again...!

Very true - that is why many of us believe that "Homer" Simpson is lurking somewhere in the depths of the temple and will make a brief appearance in Ridley Scott's movie.

You seem to be defaulting to 'type' Enceladus...
However... you may have sincerley been just joking... attempting to diffuse 'hypotheical-intellectual tensions' !
I'd like to think, know and hope that it is the latter...

I certainly see the references to an eagle as an added layer of depth, yet doubt it is center theme to the plot. Great post Eat'n. It may chalk up to subliminal manifest same as the band Pink Floyd wasn't necessarily thinking of Wizard of Oz when wrote Dark side of the moon; although, layers of sublimnal synchronicities manifest upon them.
Gives some purpose to the contrite hammy line, "Prometheus (Eagle) has landed."

To be fair, most modern aircraft (and quite a few spacecraft in science fiction) also bear a resemblance to the overall shape of a bird. An outstanding example is the SST (the Concorde jet); the nose of that thing looks like a bird's head and beak to boot. The stealth bomber/fighter and other "flying wing"-type aircraft are examples of exceptions to the rule; they sacrifice some stability for increased lift and less aerodynamic drag.
I personally think the important part of the Prometheus myth - as far as it concerns this movie - is that we're dealing with "the Gods," so to speak, and their secrets, and our human friends (perhaps thanks to Mr. Weyland) are going to do something that really, really pisses them off.

I don't have time to read all this stuff. But clearly this thread illustrates what makes this (and all the other Promethei forums) so great.
It is not possible to over-analyse and obsess over great Sci Fi.
It's what great Sci Fi's made for.

My comments on the Prometheus myth are from the writer's own mouth.
The Parents god figures are afraid of children displacing them. The parents kill the children if they get a leg up on the parent.
It is a similar myth to Jupiter eating his children to prevent them from overthrowing him.

@Id Rather Be Eatin...
It's ok to put your ideas out there and have them rise or fall on their merits, but they just don't match up with the myth or the films fairly obvious plot. So the ship looks like a bird? All airplanes look like birds, corvettes look phallic and the President of the USA tries to convince us daily that he's not just a petty politician... this is revelational? This is deep intellectual discourse? Are you in Elementary school?

If David ends up in the 'Navigation' room aboard The Juggernaught then could it be that he is in some ways playing-off both sides and is what causes the crew or a sole crew member of the Prometheus to pursue it on a collision course..? Perhaps Janek himself is Prometheus as the Prometheus ship is 'his' as the captains perogative goes? Or Vickers in a simple twist of fate? Making the Prometheus' myth that has always been historically a man now a woman? And so then it beggars the question of who is the Super-sized Bio-Enginner... Peter Weyland? Someone else? All I know is that there are many elements of iconography that are going to be coming to us constantly throughout this film, whether we 'get it at first' or not. And I'm betting it will be served up to us on a platter by Ridley Scott much like he did with Blade Runner in toying with the idea that could you tell for certain in a future world who was really and TRUEY human?
Well by that same order of analogy and reasoning, could you see whom ultimately, if anyone, is going to end-up as the sole representative of the Prometheus myth...? There are so many set ups that the mythos Ridley Scott is playing with can spider-web off on so many tangents that it is really ANYONES GUESS at this point.
It could even be the Cobra-eel-Heads, for-all-we-know, that some how get aboard the Prometheus ship while all are dead upon it before it crashes into the back of The Juggernaught. Not that they may be flying the Prometheus into the back or side or front of The Juggernaught at the time just that there was maybe no body left alive upon her prior to the ship ramming into the back of the Alien one, so in that regard and manner, by definition, the aliens as stow aways aboard the Prometheus ARE the eventual Prometheus myth incarnate. O.k. thats maybe stretching credibility upon that notion and I am prepared to conceed upon that point as I would want the suprise plot delivery to WOW me as well as you guys out there too! It just goes to show that Ridley Scott can manipulate the myth into a bunch of wrong turns for us and about-faces, suprise reversal-of-fortunes for those in question and so on. He's been know for doing that before...

Dave_b... I totally agree with you. It's nice that the ship looks like an eagle... but the idea in this thread is on par with that of an imaginitive 5 year old. Sorry... Id Rather Be Eatin Something Else, but when the movie comes out (very soon) you will find that "you were wrong. you were SO wrong".
The bread crumbs are there. The humans clearly are the ones who are going to stir up trouble, and the "alien" that bursts through us is like the bird that pecks out Prometheus' liver. There is also a side story running parallel to the humans vs space jockeys and engineers, and that will be of David and his relationship with the humans.
There is plenty enough here. Sometimes a spaceship is just a spaceship.

Well Hollow Way the proverbial alien egg-will-be-upon your face as and when the Prometheus DVD comes out in time with the Bonus Disc and 'Making of' featurettes and all the rest of it and you be sure to watch as I am reasonably confindet LITTLE MAN that featuring in and around somewhere in the annals of the designers portfolio of inspiration for the films 'Visuals' my hypothosis and instinctive reasoning will be proved correct after all! And WHEN IT IS Hollow Way, be sure to remeber: "You Heard It Here First!"
O.k.... Kindest Regards.
May 17, 2012
When the movie is released and the DVD is released I will not be hearing from you, because you well feel embarrassed. LOL
May 17, 2012
Embarrasment never enters into the equation for those whom are resonably confident with their thought process and line of thinking... as I stated upon this thread earlier: 'People who mock are themselves the mocked'... that is why they do it.
This means you Hollow Man, I'm sorry Hollow Way...
I do beg your pardon...
May 17, 2012
You sound as if you are just repeating what others have said upon here before and have no real thought processes of your own. Hollow Man is in fact very fitting after all!
