Anyone bitching about this film WITHOUT HAVING SEEN IT should maybe just go see Battleship, MIB3, Lockout, John Carter... you know, real quality sci-fi films.

@Craig...Yes, yes and yes.
And especially yes to the last part. It's about Shaw's love for "god", "god's" love-or lack thereof I think-for us, Weyland's love-AND lack thereof for his CREATIONS and his creations love-or lack thereof for him and all the repercussions for all this love or lack thereof.
I promise that's exactly what it's about. Among many, many other things.

Honestly I think you guys are overreacting. The movie did get good reviews but not everybody is gonna like it.
Blade Runner did awful in box office and initially wasnt received well at all. Look at it now, it's a benchmark in sci fi movie history.
It's inevitable for some ppl not to appreciate Ridley Scott's subtleties and attention to detail. If everybody (the average movie goer) goes to see the movie and love it chances are the hardcore fans (aka "us") will probably hate its mainstream-ness....
We want something unique something different and most ppl prefer a straight foreward cliche
storyline
So watch the movie and judge it for yourself.. And stop tripping balls ppl :P

@nuthugger...Man, Lockout was soooo shity. "Die Hard meets Blade Runner" my f*&king a$$! Not that I ever put an ounce of faith in that statement. Actually, the fact that that was a tagline for the film was a HUGE red flag that I was completely retarded not to notice. I'm a big Escape from New York fan though and saw some parallels and was suckered in.

Anyway I understand Drakeequation hardcore fandomeness... I really cannot predict how I am going to feel about the Blade Runner sequel when it's finally realesed, because that is my favorite movie ever. I hope it is not called Blade Runner 2: they should come up with a different title, but then again that's the creators' prerogative.

@craigamore. Exactly because it's a movie people feel 'entitled' to satisfying entertainment. As much as we all are openminded to it and want to see unexpected, we want this unexpected to form a coherent story not just a mix of random episodes

@Craigmore
Yeah, that is what I think exactly, it is about love of God and what you would feel if you found he hated you, didn't want you to exist.
Man, from what I've heard from this film and read (some I wish I hadn't but oh well) this movie is deep and if you are just looking for an answer to why the original alien is made, or where did the original jockey come from and nothing more you may be disappointed.
This movie is deep and now with the reviews out I want to see it so much more.

Google translate:
There are movies that disappoint highly anticipated, other than the height, and others that are perplexing. Prometheus is part of the latter. Prequel to be a lot of talk, especially its director, Ridley Scott, who is back in the wonderful world he has imagined with horror H.Giger for one of the sagas of the biggest cult science fiction: Alien . Prometheus is a good entertainment for fans of the genre that's still a bit frustrating.
Genesis
When Ridley tackles a prequel - even if it defends the title, Prometheus is none the less a prequel - the director takes the word in Genesis literally. The genesis of the creature, but also the genesis of man on Earth. Prometheus provides the director with a sci-fi, which can take or not belonging to the saga, surfing on the origins of man and the human condition. Yes because the genre of science fiction, originally, before eyeful of a sudden the viewer of spacecraft explosions and other lasers, aims to question the human race, its evolution and its derivatives, for warn thanks to these metaphors. Prometheus is meant in that vein, with a feature film in impeccable aesthetics and questions of philosophical and mystical orders to no end. Mysticism, an obsession known director. Issues that appeal to early viewing to eventually exhaust the answers so late in arriving. A majority of course remain unanswered.
Starting with its title referring to the Greek myth of Prometheus, driven from Olympus for stealing fire from the gods for the benefit of humans. The expedition's ship as it does the myth of throwing light on the existence of man and his creation, before explaining the origins of the Alien creature. A quest to make sense, curiosity and a search on the edge of the universe that will never be fully satiated or explained. And it is this research that will lead to loss of the crew and especially to give birth to the mythical creature of the Saga which is obviously due to the Earthlings, as after the opening of Pandora's box. As so aptly Dr. Shaw, Prometheus' gives birth to death. "
Naomi ... Sigourney ... All!
The story as was Ridley, happens in 2085, 30 years before Sigourney, finally, the story of Ellen Ripley. The plot revolves around the jockey as promised space, be a giant sitting on a chair in what appeared to be a technological base (which is actually a technological base). The seat in question is of course in this prequel, as well as those famous giant, presented as the key to our existence. Without revealing more, these giants have all died as a result of something indescribable and their dead bodies lie at the bottom of a cave on the edge of space on the planet LV-223. In this prologue, Noomi Rapace embodies Professor Elizabeth Shaw, an anthropologist / archaeologist / doctor / captain of the expedition on a little-experienced and very sure of herself taken desperate to make sense of life and above all believe or not the existence of a higher power trying to prove or disprove. While the character seems pretty smooth at first, soon the mimicry with Ellen Ripley feels, especially during a scene enough gore involving a foreign body and a surgical procedure. Naomi thinks it's Sigourney Weaver, whether intended or not. Some of his scenes border on the remake and reproduce exactly the same atmosphere as a result. A character clearly modeled on that of Sigourney both in his writing or playing the actress. Charlize Theron's character is not better, it is virtually absent and most underutilized. Sadness for an actress to gauge potential and recognized.
Only Michael Fassbender brings some depth to the film. In the shoes of an android in service of the expedition, the character, supported by a flawless performance of the actor, is the most work, complex, mysterious and especially touching, despite some inconsistencies scriptwriting. A character that is the major points in this plot philosophical, like the creation and purpose, in a coldly analytical own a robot, which still seems to want to look like its creators.
An open world
On location and legendary artist HR Giger quite breathtaking photography and a faultless plans, ensures that its blockbuster role in bringing dazzle the viewer. Cool colors and dark contrast with touches of warm colors offer a very discreet aesthetic peculiar to this prequel, which is not one. A journey to a universe worked, served in a natural and unobtrusive 3D, which would still be useless on certain scenes.
Prometheus is a movie a little hybrid between genius and the draft, a prequel of prequel that gives way (if the box office below) to a suite that would address a multitude of unanswered questions and may finally offer a thrill worthy of Alien The eighth passenger. Because even if Prometheus scares, it's easy playing with the mystery and the feeling of confinement. Prometheus is none the less a good movie that allows viewing, without trying to compare it to the saga. Anyway we finally have a semblance of explanation, at least we know how the creature is born, for the rest, travel and pregnancy, we will perhaps in a sequel, since the film leaves the door open for possibility of another reboot.

@Craigamore I read an entire play-by-play of the film on the AVP boards, it sounds like the plot is garbage. And BECAUSE it is a movie and I am paying money to see it I do get to feel like I am entitled to something. It is called capitalism, the customer gets to have some expectations of the what product will be. Don't blame me, blame the marketing department at Fox which made this film seem like it will give us answers to big questions when it gives us NONE...about anything. From the way the crew members die to the complete absence of the Engineers communicating in any way, this movie seems more like Jason X (Jason in space) than Blade Runner. It is just a slasher movie set on an Alien planet complete with a silent hulking brute attacking people without any explanation and jump scares.

Pfff Drake how you can be so sure without having saw the movie ?? I did read EVERYTHING and i can have some bad feelings or good ones BUT i will have my final virdict only at the end of my first view .
Screaming on the floor " It suckkkkk" before viewing the movie is silly !
May 29, 2012
@ Frantz I am still going to go see the film, it does not mean that I am not permitted to voice my disappointment. I didn't jump down the throats of people who read the negative reviews and said, "this movie is going to be amazing!"
May 29, 2012
@Drakeequation
I guess the advantage of you being disapointed means you have lowered the expectations, which means when you see the movie their is a chance you may leave more suprised and its not as bad as you may have worried.
Compared to if someone was still really really hyped up and never been on any sites like this.... they may find the movie falls way below their expectations.
I am going to have to go in hidding for a few days as its only about 40 odd ours to go for me...
