Lindelof's Assertion That Shaw Might Be Wrong

In light of what Damon Lindelof said in that Popular Mechanics Q & A, I started to think about the course of events in the movie a little differently... Bob the Engineer's less-than-friendly reception of the human visitors contributed greatly to Shaw's perception of the situation. She assumed the Engineers where heading to earth to unleash destruction. Another take on it might be that Bob got angry with their meddling and flew into a rage. Maybe it's like when you catch your child going into your toolbox to play with an electric drill? Something they shouldn't be fiddling with so you lose your temper, partially because you are looking out for their best interest. The Prometheus crew was in WAY over their heads once they started messing around with the black goo. All kinds of terrible things happened. It is entirely possible that the goo is a tool for good, for positive bio-engineering. A change agent. Their lack of understanding and meddling resulted in ALL of the problem's they encountered. Children messing around with daddy's toolbox. Bob could have wanted to kill them in order to stop them from interfering in any other future course of events. Screwing something up. I think it is entirely possible the Engineers were on a course to Earth to initiate another series of evolutionary changes. Potentially positive ones, like helping mankind make the jump in the next stage of its own evolution. Again, the notion of Shaw's perception of the situation being biased as she was not privy to all of the information.

Is it me or when humans come into contact with the black goo via another life form the mutation and behaviour is aggressive/hostile, in Holloway's case it was not because he was directly infected ?

Nope, I've read OP's original post again (I had read it before) and can only surmise that TOTAL OBFUSCATION OF THE TRUTH aka The Fog of Corporate War was the only objective. I suspect Ridley Scott is spending $200,000,000 of Fox's money to say to Human PLC, "You can't handle the truth." :)

"..sees a bunch humans who should not even be there .." I can't recall why the Engineer wakes up at this time//// But the gathering of many key players of our drama.. at one time..in front of an awakened alien..... seemed awkward.... THe actual contact with an alien species(no matter how human they look) should be a cautious event... Peter Weyland must have been willing to risk everything for the last grasp for immortality..

Forgive them for they know not what they do Maybe the waking Engineer didn't get that message. The impression that I got when he was so rudely awoken was He was somewhat shocked to hear Shaw's voice He grasped the situation very quickly He felt an instant of pain and sorrow for David, the result of idiots playing God He took out David because death was the best thing for this false creature He destroyed the creator Weyland with his own creation His mission to go to Earth need to be hastily re-started Black Goo ahoy! Oops! What was that bang? Grrr! I'm really gonna take out the f***ers now! Questions: While he was ticking over once an hour for millennia, what was he waiting for? Some of his chums? What did the Engineers want to create once we had been destroyed (if David's theory is correct)? Did he mean the destruction of humanity or the destruction of our way of life, philosophy and general outlook? If it's not plain and simple genocide, how would the Black Goo behave in an Earth-like environment?
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

"..While he was ticking over once an hour for millennia, what was he waiting for? Some of his chums?.." He was a last resort pilot for the Juggernaut...He knew that when he awoke...and not among friends,,his mission was to destroy the humans on earth..

"..What did the Engineers want to create once we had been destroyed (if David's theory is correct)?.." I don't think Engineers thought of human replacements..as the terror of human development and space travel caused development immediate destruction plans for Earth. To continue ..perhaps the last thing they would want to do is give our Earth another chance to become a threat..

"..Did he mean the destruction of humanity or the destruction of our way of life, philosophy and general outlook?.." I think any and all destruction of any living orgasnism as we know it. If every plant and animal after the humans are destroyed,,evolution would sort of go down the same path,,leading to future problems with life on planet Earth. For me the Engineers best approach is clear the planet of any life forms..and leave it that way..We have been too much of a problem for the Engineers,,or Creators..

"...If it's not plain and simple genocide, how would the Black Goo behave in an Earth-like environment?.." I think it is a Universal 'goo' that is 100% effective in any atmosphere,,,, Judging by the effects/growth in as shown in various movies the Earth as we know it is doomed..
