What would you be willing to do? I think this question posed by David 8 is the key concept of the movie. The answer is "Anything and everything." The horror of the movie is a result of what "Anything and everything" can entail. The question is asked of every character in the movie. This I believe is what the movie is trying to convey. The fact that Ridley Scott and Lindeloff are what are driving the concepts in this movie assure me that the agenda of the movie is more than just to toss in interesting thought morsels to chew on. They mean to give us a blunt force blow to our frontal lobe. All the characters in this movie have to make decisions that reveal the extent of evil (or good) that is in them. Weyland is the ultimate evil in this movie. His selfish ambition and ego have created soulless automatons that do anything he wills and all life is expendable in order to reach his goals. These goals are the same as the dark Engineers. There are benefits that come with his ambition and that is the uplifting of part of mankind in the realm of technology and wealth. He represents the corporation that is cruel yet profitable for some. Weyland is Prometheus. He stole the fire. His kind will pay by getting his liver eaten out for stealing it. David 8 is soulless. His will is not unlike the monsters produced by the black goo. He is evolved with superhuman attributes but he has no soul and acts like it. He is like the Alien as anything else in this movie. The light Engineers seen in the beginning of the movie seem to want to evolve their humanity, their progeny (us) is a light version of themselves. Less evil, less powerful but more humane? The dark Engineers seem to believe that species need to be infused with the dark goo in order to go to the next level. The black goo they want to introduce is a evolutionary mutating agent that transforms species into soulless super survivors, very much like the Robot/Androids that Weyland created. Vickers is selfish but not inhuman, she is not as evil as Weyland but when the chips are down it's every man or woman for themselves. Captain Jadek is selfish and seemingly non-caring as well but when the chips are down he stands up to the challenge. Charlie Holloway is an atheist. He is prejudiced against robots/androids. Is concerned with finding answers, he is somewhat irresponsible of the danger that he is dealing with. He expects to find no deep meaning but he does want to understand. He is the most neutral and disbelieving of all characters but humane and self sacrificing when the chips are down. Dr. Elizbeth Shaw is the Christian. She is a believer. She saved Earth from destruction, she wants answers but not at the expense of her survival. I believe she will find a war between Light and Dark Engineers. That or the aftermath. The original title of the movie was Paradise, which leads me to think that a sequel will entail how paradise was lost. Note about "Light Engineers" The fact that there were Engineers on Earth after the birth of Christ who didn't introduce the black goo to humanity means that there may be more than one faction of Engineers. The interruption of the LV-233 Earth mission via the accidental self-infection may have been a "miracle" symbolized by occurring at the time of Christ. This miracle may have been either intentional or accidental. I could be wrong.

"..Now, consider this: Shaw is heading directly into the hornets nest with the very symbol of the Engineers emissary's murder hanging around her neck. .." PLus David with a scientific/practical viewpoint of the' Creators' Of course David might become 'Enlightened'.. and become the first android..that is self evolving..

@BritishChap I don't think Vickers is a robot but she might be bionic or have some type of high powered prosthetic. We do know that she likes to do push-ups. I think they had her doing push-ups just to show that it is possible for her to pin David against a wall. If she was bionic, I would like to think she was able to survive under a rock during the Juggernaut crash, I really did not see her crushed. Another thing. Is 10.11.12 supposed to be the DVD release date? Or are they going to announce: 1. A game. 2. Prometheus 2 3. A cable minis-series (ala Battlestar Gallactica/Caprica style) of the Peter Weyland story? 4. A straight to DVD animation series of Prometheus related stuff.

This whole concept of the film being vague, open ended and alot deeper than xenos and explosions is nothing new for Ridley. Let's not forget Blade Runner. The whole idea behind the end of the film was to leave us with questions... Will the Sean Young character live or time out and die? Is Ford's character a replicant? Where did they go? Were they pursued? And back then the studios weren't so consumed with building franchises like they are now. i.e. transformers or crap like that. If Prometheus was filmed back then, it's possible this would be it. No second film. I wasn't and STILL am not thrilled about Lindelhofs participation.
