If BigDave can't translate the words in the image, we need a linguist. :) If you are a linguist, please help.

Alien Covenant

'The production team carried over the engineer alphabet created for Prometheus. All the hieroglyphics actually say something, but it might be rather difficult to decode since not all the translations are in English.'

Oh lord, this reminds me of the TV series Lost, when people were trying to translate those damn hieroglyphics lol.

I'd love to know what it says

It also reminds me of Dead Space 2 with similar writings but there was a conversion chart behind a wall that let you figure out the writings if you wanted to.

Can anyone out there translate this? I for one would love to know what is written on the walls leading into and in the head rooms.

This might help. Here is the Engineer font alphabet...

If I can get a clearer picture, I can work on it.

Former USAF cypto linguist here.

from what I can see in the grainy picture:

1st row: KLESAMEB(I,U)EVIE

2nd row: IFEANDBEAT

I searched morphology and if the word is kisame, it means demon shark in japanese. Might be a hefty coincidence though.

Lone, thx.

IllegalASU, thank you, I try to make better versions, what about the Prometheus gate image? It looks much clearer:

It's cuneiform, but I only managed to translate English into Brazilian Portuguese so far...

But David, our David, might have had a clue, since he had been studying ‎Sumarian, Akkadian, Eblaite, Elamite, Hattic... and so on so forth, while everyone else was sleeping.

Picture from prometheus has different radicals on the pictographs.

I think the "font" file is incomplete

@LadyStardust even if we can translate this, it will probably turn out to be gobbledygook....or perhaps Rutger's famous speech from BladeRunner! ;) Hahah

Lone, thank you, it is not bla-bla. Look at the source, please!

It would be a hoot if it turned out to be something like joylitt said:

@Lone, what you said does make sense, but the written language itself - even if the producers had cared to finish what they started - is cuneiform in its base, and it was what David was studying. And that's why we ended up having this wonderful conversation about languages and their possible cuneiform form and meaning.

Now, please, indulge me: which Roy's famous speech are you talking about?

No, dk, in Covenant it will mean something, I think, check the link.

That would be Rutger's final I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.... speech

You are correct Ati, they wouldn't go to all that trouble then have it be undeciferable!

Ridley Scott wanted the language of the Engineers to relate to the oldest possible hypothesised speech. Linguist teacher, Dr. Anil K Biltoo, from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, was the person who invented that language for the film.

The basis for it, was ancient Proto-Indo-European, which is hypothesised as being the ancestor of all Indo-European languages, German, Scandinavian, Celtic, Greek, Slavic, and the Indic language of North India. They all have to have a common ancestor, in order to explain how they are related, one to the other. This hypothesised ancestor is referred to as PIE [Proto-Indo-European]

In order to demonstrate the full range of the language and how it would sound when it was put into sentences, the intonation, flow and pathos, Ridley asked Dr. Biltoo to choose a soliloquy which was very close to Ridley’s heart, that being Roy Batty’s famous speech from Blade Runner. After his delivery, Dr. Biltoo was then pleasantly surprised when Ridley offered him the role of David’s [holographic] tutor.

@Lone, thank you so very much.

So, I'll go out of this with it: I've seen things you people wouldn't believe....

Or should I say: "get out of this with"? Translation is sometimes confusing...

Maybe I should go ahead and say: "Fui, boa sorte a quem fica e acha que traduz, filme ou não. Fico com a máxima: 'Vocês nem imaginam as coisas que vi...'"

Guys and Gals,

For time sake of us spinning our wheels trying to decipher gooblygook I have contacted Mr. Biltoo directly and requested an Engineer Script to English Translation Key.  I hope he responds.

Thanx to Ati, Lone and Illegal Alien for all your help in this. It's something that's always bugged me. If any of this is in Kanji, I can get my wife to translate as she is Japanese.

Props to Rick for contacting Mr Biltoo directly. Let's hope he responds …

I cant really help, i can try and match the cuneiform type, as a lot exist and while some show a Alphabet of 26 letters i doubt Ancient Cultures had that many, it would likely be more and a number of these would apply to sounds rather than just letters.

This is going to seem really immature, but I'd love it if it turned out to say:

In context to what the movie shows...

I am thinking it could be a few extracts from Isaiah 43

I have been reading Mister Biltoo's book put out on Malakak/eic, and it is helping me to at least understand the general meanings. The problem I am encountering is that there is absolutely more than one language represented here in the pictos. This is lol.
