Neomorph Alien: Earth ForumWas having Wendy communicate with the Xenomorph a good idea?

Uuugghhhh....I don't like it at all (surprise surprise!)

🚨 Triggered warning🚨

It's another nail in the coffin for the Xenomorph terror factor and the (once) mystery surrounding the horrifying space entity. While the manner of how things are executed obviously can make a big difference in general (Ripley 8 and the Newborn connection and David 8 communicating with the tiny xeno baby and the adult neomorph worked better given the context and how the rest of both films were done respectively) it was both a terrible idea on paper AND shot on camera in the Earth series imo.

Maybe Wendy needs the surname "8" for it to be convincing har har. But seriously what were they thinking? Or pardon me mentioning it, smoking? She might as well have named the Xenomorph something Disney-cute like Skittles, Pebbles or why not Fido (plushie in stores soon!) since it was practically a dog at the end.

I hated the domesticated velociraptors in Jurassic World (and Chris Pratts silly gesture with his arms 🫷🤨🫸) and I despise a tame Xenomorph even more. What's next? Xenomorph therapy sessions? Absolutely ridiculous.

I hope I don't come across as negative!

I like it, not too reminiscent of the classic designs and not too far off either. Gives me an impression of an "offshore" xenomorph imo, in a good sense. Lobstermorph anyone?

*crickets*

Oh ok.

Kirsh was repairing Isaac right before the showdown with Morrow.

I hope we get to see more of him in season 2. I really liked him, he was just a kid who wanted to be a scientist and impress his mentor.

I suspect we'll see him in season 2, but he'll have a different face/be played by a different actor.

I also do think there's still one silicon eating fly loose in the lab, laying eggs somewhere. It got out when Arthur opened the enclosure to examine Isaac's body, and you can see the POV shot from it's perspective when it follows Slightly to the vent.

I hope Kirsh finishes repairing Isaac before those flies hatch, so they don't come out and eat the rest of him.

You're absolutely right which is why I cringed at the whole storyline being based on the minds of children. Seemed like a cheap cop-out to excuse lazy writing and their poor / incoherent choices. I really don't understand the obsession or fascination with Peter Pan and the idea to adapt Alien to it. Bizarre direction...

By main characters I meant the predominant ones, I considered Isaac and Arthur more expendable and less developed characters. No real impact to their death. If anything it was kind of a relief Isaac bit the dust cause everything he did was idiotic, the consequences for his ineptitude was somewhat relieving but there were many opportunities where other main characters should have been taken out, imo. Majority of the characters minus Morrow and Kirsh bugged me 😂

Lmfao well...that's kind of hilarious. I mean... a sheep xeno with a human face for a butt would be doubly unnerving.

Because it does and I've never understood why lol. I don't think the script explains that

That is fair about Isaac. He was the first to truly try and break away from identity Kavalier forced on them. The look Kavalier gave Kirsh when he referred to him as Isaac instead of Tootles said a lot. Boy was starting to realize that he was losing control over the lost boys.

@ninXeno426

Oh, good point about Arthur and Siberian. I did think Siberian was pretty cool, I was sad to see her go.

I'm interested to see what will happen with Arthur. I'm wondering if the T. Ocellus will have access to his knowledge and memories.

I didn't think Isaac was an undeveloped character, I thought he was interesting in his aspirations to become a scientist. I thought his death was pretty sad and I hope Kirsh manages to repair him. (You can see Kirsh working on repairing him before Morrow snuck up on him in the lab).

Much agreed about Wendy. She's a kid who's been thrown into a situation she never should have been in, and with Nibs getting essentially lobotomized, Wendy realized that none of them were safe. I don't blame her for turning against her captors (nor for her not being able to differentiate Prodigy foot soldiers from the higher-ups behind the scenes pulling the strings.

They're all equally a threat to her and her friends. What happened to the poor Prodigy soldiers is more Boy's fault than Wendy's.

And you're absolutely right about Wendy. She's not evil. She's a child who grew up really quick. She realized Kavalier doesn't have her best interest at heart. Realizing how easy it is for their minds to be wiped, their identity destroyed was the wake up call she needed. The poor Prodigy soldiers don't necessarily deserve to be eviscerated by the xenomorph but its a price Prodigy now pays for playing at God. This is no different than the countless deaths Weyland Yutani has caused in their pursuit of the xenomorph. Everyone is expendable in the end to these companies far too concerned with their bigger picture. Every one is in that cell at the end because they underestimated what they created.

There was also Arthur. Isaac/Tootles to be fair was the least developed lost boy. Same goes with Siberian. Sure she'd been around since Ep1 but we hardly knew who she was by the time the plumbicare ate her. Arthur is the most significant season 1 death but his corpse has been reanimated by the ocellus.

OOoh, great catch!

"It's simultaneously the least scary xenomorph and the most terrifying sheep in one bizarre package. "

I'm gonna be real honest, I think a xenomorph sheep would be deeply unnerving. ...What would its wool be like?? Would its lanolin be acidic!?

...Why does that picture of the xeno sheep look like it has a human face on its butt??

@Chris

"None of the main characters died... Literally everyone is still there at the end."

What about Isaac?

I honestly really liked the whole series, even though the final episode left us in suspense. I don't feel like Wendy is evil, I feel like her actions are very reasonable given her circumstances.

I also utterly love the rivalry between Kirsh and Morrow. Hope we get to see a lot more of that.

VivisectedEngineerAlien: Earth ForumEpisode 6 – The Fly Spoiler Discussion

Didn't one of the flies get loose and wasn't recovered? There's a POV shot of it nearly following Slightly into the vent.

It didn't attack Kirsh or anything later, so I assume it was full from devouring Isaac, and is probably laying eggs somewhere in the lab (the same way a mosquito takes a bloodmeal in order to lay eggs).

Looking forward to the flies becoming a formidable threat to the synthetics in season 2.

Chris, I tried to click quote and comment on this person and it didn't work so I am going to just put what they said in quotation marks: "And yeah, Wendy has been given way too much power and control over things. A character like this is never entertaining to watch. She as a character is interesting in few episodes but the script was not creative enough. Cheesy phrases and grunge/metal music at the end does not help also." I agree with everything this person typed.

I think maybe (apart from the subjective viewpoint) the division between liking or disliking in general is due to generational differences. People, particularly sci-fi/horror fans who grew up watching the original films might prefer those for what they are and also in hindsight for nostalgic reasons, but I doubt people were as divided with the difference between Alien and Aliens as they are with Alien and Alien Earth for example. Ridley Scott and James Cameron are simply among the best directors (especially when they were young imo) and set the standard for Alien so high it's impossible to top, especially from the perspective of old schoolers.I also think, and this is admittedly a rather bold statement, that there's truth to the matter that directors, writers and people overall back in the day were simply- with the lack of a better word, "smarter" in general as they really had to think themselves without the aid of countless computer applications doing the work for them. This applies to other areas as well such as piloting an aircraft without numerous assisting instruments. With exceptions of course, applies to both then and now. This is correct. Writing is inherently dumber or maybe audiences are smarter are more likely it's both. Star Wars is a good example in the streaming age. Andor is written to damn near perfection. The Mandalorian (the first two seasons anyway) are dumb but fun. The Ashoka and Obi Wan Kenobi series are just dumb.

Good examples, I agree.

For the reasons you stated i reject Scott's claims that they were created. It's definitely the case with his head canon but there's no chance in hell David created them. Too much evidence against it. David imitated and was successful thus the praetomorph being far from the perfect Organism. They were reckless beasts that didn't know what they were, Absolutely lacking in generations of instinct.

I think the underlying theme of all the hatred for anything other than our original Alien xeno comes from its diminishing status from movie to movie as an near Lovecraftian Elder God to its current status as a trainable smart cockroach.   Even Sir Ridley has contributed to its diminishing status by making it a bioweapon or the product of an AI experiment in the prequels.  What makes the xeno truly terrifying is thinking of it as some ancient beast laying dormant for millennia just waiting for someone to awaken it and then all hell breaks loose.

All that being said there were things about Alien Earth that I did enjoy. I think there is potential for the new monsters in the future to wreck havoc.   I am a fan of all types of science fiction and horror so the human vs AI story line is also intriguing.  There has always been some speculation that AI or something other than human was pulling the strings behind the scenes in the Alien series so maybe one of the synthetics or maybe even the eyeball takes over (wouldn't that be fun).

It's hard to define what is disrespectful to fans at this point. The split opinions on this show and the common complaint that goes something like "Alien is ruined" is so well worn that the divide is unsurprising but you'll have fans say the exact thing about Aliens. James Cameron disrespected the original Alien by making them giant space bugs. Alien 3 disrespected fans by killing Hicks and Newt. Resurrection disrespected everyone by existing. Ridley Scott pissed on fans with Prometheus and Covenant. Fedè Alvarez insults fans intelligence with a safe dumb movie. Out of the Shadows was an insult by shoe horning Ripley in. AVP disrespect the xeno life cycle with accelerated gestation and births (now the normal oddly). Requiem exists. Alien Earth causing fans to riot feels like another day at the office. Absolutely nothing will satisfy everyone. I see just as many people excited about Romulus 2 as I see people disinterested. I see demands for the third prequel and an equal amount of apathy for that storyline to continue. I see want for Blomkamp's 5 to be resurrected and people happy it was canceled. Earth is already the same. People want a season 2 and people want it canceled. Just Another day at the office.

Very true, it's all subjective. I guess if we all agreed on everything there'd be no points to forums like these 😂
