Exactly alteredstate. Everyone has there own opinions and in the end opinions are JUST OPINIONS. There not necessarily facts. Debates ere fun but pushing your opinion on people is like telling them "Well I think this so its A FACT." I see a lot of this in other forums about the Alien series. Some people think that just Prometheus, Alien and Aliens are the true series to the Alien Quadrilogy but is that true? No of course not. Its an opinion. They judge the series by how well they liked a film. Their not judging it off of character consistency, story consistency and plot. "Well I liked that film but hated that film, SO it's not canon." God do I see more of this than anything else. Unfortunately with Prometheus coming out there are a lot of people out there not all but a lot who are true elitists to Ridley Scott's "ALIEN" that they neglect and put down the rest of the Alien franchise. They are SO entrenched within his film that the fact that he's making a prequel to Alien tells them that they have to forget everything else. I even see a lot of bashing to Cameron's ALIENS. Come on man. Just because Prometheus is coming out doesn't mean the rest of the story that has been put forth for Alien is worthless. Its a hollow statement with no meaning. Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection helped define, embolden and bring more depth to Alien. And as a collection of films that are all within the Anthology, Quadrilogy and the rest of the box sets its clear that Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection are all truly canon whether you hate them or accept them. So to me opinions are JUST opinions and nothing else. Its up to people themselves to change their perception on the Alien series and life in general. I am fucking excited for Prometheus to come out but I don't degrade the quality of films that followed after Ridley Scott's Alien. They were fucking amazing. Hype surrounding anything tends to put off the reality of what things actually are. Opinions are opinons. But facts are facts.

Altered, Yes this is the proper thread. Species has been discussed but it has been several months, I think. I think the first Species with Natasha Henstridge = Oh yeah! I think it stole from Alien though. Not so much on the creature but in the way we come about the DNA Sequence to make the creature. It runs along the same alien lines where it touches on DNA and the unknowns. Jsut my opinion though. Regards, Rick

The reason she gave the grenade to Burke was because he had been implanted. Blowing himself up would be considered a small mercy compared to his order that resulted in wiping out an entire colony.

@ Rick I do indeed have an idea for a King Xenomorph, in my own extension of the Alien universe that does, in a sense, fulfill such a reproductive role. I even hinted to its existence in the My Alien 5 thread I did...

b5historymanAlien Movies ForumWeyland-Yutani: Building Better Worlds?
In some of the background material I developed for Lee Brimmicombe Wood to use in the Colonial Marines Technical Manual, Weyland Yutani quietly dropped their plan for getting an Alien after the Nostromo failed to return to Earth, as it would probably open up a can of worms they wanted kept firmly quiet. The project would have been kept to a few individuals within the Company. I also presumed that when Ripley did turn up alive and well, that someone in the Company hierarchy reactivated the project. Making Burke the front man made him the perfect fall guy if it all went belly up again. This was why he transmitted the order on 12 June 2179 to the colony. As for how far the colony was from the ship, it was a number of days travel from Hadley's Hope out past the Ileum Range (mountains probably). The ship was never detected by the colonists as it was to all intents and purposes dead to any sort of sensing equipment. With all the turbulence in the atmosphere, satellites would never have picked it up. Cameron said there had been a volcanic eruption that covered part of the ship. An unused script element had Russ and Annie Jordan finding the SJ chamber and the SJ buried under ash that had got in when the dome at the top of the ship was damaged. The Jordan's must have been rescued fairly quickly probably by some sort of shuttle. Some of the rescue crew also explored the derelict and fell victim to the deadly cargo too.

I would love to see a 3D remake of the Alien Films. This is one of the reasons I've been holding out on buying the Anthology. You know Fox is going to remake them into 3D if Prometheus is huge in the theaters. Its all marketing strategy.

Unfortunately Alien 3 has yet to gain the respect it fully deserves. I can say the same for Alien Resurrection. I feel like its ultimately just incredibly harsh criticism that drives the bad rap for these films. As one reviewer said about Alien Resurrection: "How people defecate on this so vehemently, I fail to see. Continuity errors? Every movie has some. Unexplainable plot elements? It is sci-fi. You've already accepted that a spider crab can make love to someone's face, have a small creature grow in their chest, burst out of it and within hours transform into a huge slimy predator. I would think a clone with memories isn't such a gigantic leap." Alien Resurrection didn't feel like a "cash-in" like some people claim. It had amazing visuals, a brand new story with characters that had interesting aspects to them. Ripley was badass with a dash of Alien in her to mix things up and introduced the audience to a story that was full of intrigue and fresh ideas. It was an epic, fast paced gritty thrill ride that will never be forgotten. I don't just accept this film as part of the series I FUCKING LOVE IT!!!!!!!! Alien 3 was a dark powerful film. It was Ripley coming to terms with everything that she had lost. The Alien creature destroyed her whole life. It killed all her friends and family that she had ever loved and cared about. She had spent years trying to rid this monster out of her life and now she has to stand up, fight, take the queen she embodies and throw herself into a pit of fire. How FUCKING POWERFUL IS THAT! If that isn't that I honestly don't really know what is. Overall I will defend these films until the day I die. I will defend Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection with my life. They all embolden the true genre which IS science-fiction horror. Open your eyes, Open your ears, allow the true quality of all these films to flow through you. Its all there. You just can't be critical of every little thing. In the end it is hollywood. These are movies. Nothing is perfect nor certain but what I do know is, is that Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection are extremely worthy and not just worthy but masterpiece sequels that I don't think will ever be accepted or embraced like a few of us out there do. I'm emotionally invested in the first 4 films. After seeing the AVP films...I just couldn't do anything but facepalm my self. Ripley is the conduit to the whole series. There really isn't any point in exploring the storyline of the Aliens without her in my opinion. It was Ripley and her story that we connected with. Why go further if there is no Ripley involved. Prometheus is a prequel and has a REAL reason. I can't wait for it by the way. But also Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection is one "string" of the Alien universe. That's "Ripley's" story. But were there any other bio-weapons released by the Space Jockey species that could of destroyed other planets in the same universe? Is the xenomorph really the ONLY threat out there in the vast expanses of space? Thats where I think in the future of filmmaking, maybe other filmmakers could explore. Expand on the mythos of the Alien universe. With the right directors and filmmakers, I think it could happen. There could be other stories told other than "Ripley's". With new characters, new locations, new planets, a different bio-weapon/threat and a whole different story line. But "Ripley's" story was connected to the original universe that Giger and Scott created. Alien started the whole series and Alien Resurrection capped it off after 4 films. AVP was just a fail. It wasn't connected to the Alien series or the Alien universe. It simply took the Alien creature put it in a COMPLETELY SEPARATE universe and called it their own. Plus it was just UGH....Words can't describe. It desecrated any chance of an Alien 5 that both Ridley Scott and James Cameron were in the talks of doing. It would of FULLY explored Ripley 8's character like some people complain about. To me Alien Resurrection just capped it off. Fox could of done something even more AMAZING and brought back what people wanted from the 1st and 2nd films. It would of been an EPIC. If James Cameron or Ridley Scott signed on. Ripley was our hero. We fought for her and we rooted for her. AVP was just a fail and it messed up everything. After 15 years of waiting and anticipation Ridley Scott is FINALLY coming back on board and planning to breath new life into a series that has been sitting around for tooooooo damn long.

Well said Ripleyclone 8. I enjoyed Resurrection and true some of the effects and visuals are fabulous. My only problem is was the execution of the effects for the Queen. I thought that she looked like a puppet.. I think many people did not like the tone of the film, it was slightly light hearted in tone which I think is because of the director, who dont get me wrong is an amazing man. I just dont think his style suites this kind of heavy horror/SciFi genre. Fave scene.... Brad Duriff interacting with the drone!

Rick thats really really deep, I love the alien story line, but wow, you gave me some gap fillers here, making me wana buy the paperback and see if theres more in the book then the screen has to offer........the only problem I have with some is that, theres never any communication to any other spacecraft in either movie, both the Nostromo and the sulaco, are on there own due to the long ass trip which puts the crews into hypersleep. I wana believe that these movies follow nothing ever done, let it break new ground, and thats what they did. These fans and I love this site to catch up on this really F00Kn cool sci fi story....Thanks to you and your staff......thumbs up!

Chum, No see thats where if there is a science ship tailing the Nostromo and Special Order 937 makes perfect sense otherwise how would the corporation know about the fullblown Xeno prior and order Ash to protect it and making all other considerations secondary; crew expendable. Think about all the "collating" Ash was doing with MUTHUR. Also if there is a science team (vessel or on the ground or both) at Hadley's Hope then that makes a science team or even some androids raiding the derelict for eggs and planting them in the sub flooring of the Sulaco for continuity and we all know the corporation is evil enough to do it. I don't think anyone buys the Queen planting two eggs on the Sulaco as she was empty handed when exiting the elevator to the platform. Everyone figured the company knew but never knew to what extent anyone one person knew. I bet they had full frontal knowledge of what was going on. A lie that big doesn't need to be hidden, because it's to large to be believed. Regards, Rick

Oh and to add to this. They cover up the Nostromo/Xeno by moving the Narciscuss off course causing her to float all the way through the core systems to the other side and by some dumb luck a deep space salvage crew find it. Ripley was a pilot you would think she would know how to set simple coordinates prior to going into hypersleep, right?

Those are some great plot fillers @Rick and it does give more depth to Aliens, but then again that's the problems I have with Alien 3. It's like each time a sequel was made Fox went and tweaked the logic of what had been established in the prior installment. There was no way the Queen could have laid an egg on the Sulaco! And Bishop certainly didn't plant an egg on the Sulaco, so when did this egg get on there?! Ash I think knew from the beginning since he was placed on the Nostromo right as they left Thedus. He just didn't know when they would intercept the signal, but he knew it was coming the moment after they were awaken from hypersleep and Dallas said Muthur had a "for your eyes only" message. The company certainly set up the shake and bake colony in order for them to be infested , but did they actually think they would be able to corral and in turn make use of dozens of xenos?! Maybe, maybe not, and that's one issue I have with Aliens. As it seemed in ALIEN that both Ash and the company felt confident that the xeno was a nearly indestructible organism, what were their contingency plans for dealing with a mini army of xenos?!

GF, Good timing, I was about to crash. Ok, not so much plot fillers but tie-ins. Lets address these. Eggs on the Sulaco for Alien 3. Easy Fix with a side story going back to Aliens(aka Aliens 2.5). You answered your own question. Company set-up Hadleys Hope to get Infested. Now ask and understand why that decision was made. To study the xeno and gather specimens, plain and simple. It's right in your face but its too big to be believed. Definitely not all but a stray that wanders every now n again. So what do they need to study the xeno's a science team and some formidable defenses or better yet be completely invisible to the xenos. I know they had wireless back in the 80's and you know they had cameras everywhere on the colony. Why couldn't they just montior via camera and see exactly what is going on, which would make them invisible but still be present to see whats going on. (Back to Big Brother Days) I agree with you about Ash being the last second replacement. This is a given that the company knew about the signal. But I really feel Ash was updating the company on the fly in order to get Special Order 937 I don't think it was already just sitting there in the system waiting for Ash. There was also some speculation that Ash had interacted with the xeno as well he kept disappearing throughout the movie. Also when they were approaching the derelict why would Ash really need to go back to the console? Jsust some ideas. Regards, Rick

You know, How do we NOT know that the company isn't ran by skinjobs, throughtout the Alien Franchise. It was discussed in A:R that there was an Android rebellion. Bishop tried to get Riplye to come to teh ship to have the Queen removed. That could be another corporate tie in and give some insight to the companies continuous lack of empathy for human kind throughout the franchise. The androids just don't care. Regards, Rick

First for all those bashing someones religion and what someone believes, get a life and worry about what you believe and not others. There is a reason the human species has free will! With that being said: I have traveled much over my many years and have saw things that would make anyone think. Like some have said here I have seen UFO's, I have seen ghost, I have also seen miracles. Someone stated above that scientist had mankind's and the earths beginnings all figured out. That is true but the conclusion at this time is that it couldn't happened on it's on. Could God be a alien? Maybe, would explain a lot. If God is a alien does that delete the teachings of the Bible or any other religion? IMO No. Thing about most of the older religions at their base core is a moral guidance and that we should strive to be good and fight evil. Through all the worlds cultures and most religions there are a few things in common. 1. A beginning 2. A great flood 3. A savior 4. A End So again between all that and with the scientist conclusions I think most folks will have to be honest and agree that Earth and Mankind is not alone in the universe and there is something out there that is far greater and smarter than us. But which ever way this movie goes, it's just a movie and a SciFi movie to boot. Humans out looking for answers (our unending need for answers). Humans fighting evil (killing those aliens before they eat us). Good thing about Scott Ridley's movies they make us all think which is a good thing.

One thing is the high probability of extraterrestrial life in the universe and the other is the aliens created life on Earth. I say that we must not mix apples and oranges. As said it's a question that remains open to discussion, but in my opinion the best posture is the impartial; that on both sides of the balance really dogmatism, i.e. in the gullible people who believe by blind faith and people enclosed in scientific trials (is not the same as being a skeptic who practice the thinking critical)

Well the best argument i have found for aliens is the dear old mushroom spore which has a unique genome and can survive the harshness of space travel intact which is a theory that it is unlike anything else on our planet . It has also aided mans development over millennia and of course altered our consciousness. best evidence for this can be found in all kinds of ancient cave drawings and monuments from various ancient cultures, an interesting theory on this very subject which takes in symbols and language development can be seen in the Pharmacratic inquisition, an attempt at explaning the sources of religion and the hidden meaning of symbols in all cultures. All very interesting stuff and quite a revelation in its presentation but like everything its open to interpretation and focuses on the fact of the underlying truth that we are all manipulated by our cultural beliefs and conditioned from birth by our genetic upbringing, our environment, and our personal experiences, and for those reasons i have no belief but i am a spiritual person who's own unique experiences are themselves the key to where the truth lies as an explorer of inner space the answers can be found within yourself.... make of that what you will but there are those that know and those that dont and those that know can manipulate those that dont. Having said that the world is full of charlatan's that know nothing but claim to know everything.

The writing in the top picture definitly looks like cuneiform, which is the oldest written language found on Earth circa 3,000BC I think. That would tie in with the fact the SJ's had something to do with our planet being "seeded" perhaps. . .

@Engr101 - But didn't the Xenomorph also get described as the perfect creature. Devoid of feelings, morality and born only with the purpose to survive no matter what the cost. . . But then if the Xeno's were engineered, I find it very cliche that the created then go on to destroy the creators. It's been dones before!

I know we've gone off an a tangent slightly, but in terms of preferences of the films, for me, Alien is way better than any of the others. Alien had a fantastic story, it was all psychological, the actors and casting was spot on and the script and acting was very natural. The tension between the characters was superb and they were all real. It created a while new universe for us but left so many unaswered questions, you wanted more. The fact that to this day we all question and want answers to the space jockey illustrates how less is more. Do not give everything away. For me, Alien is an intelligent movie. I understand why Aliens is also viewed positively, but for me, it missed the boat completely. It became an action movie franchise; it lost all it's enigma and became dumb-ass. It was exciting on a different level, but there were no big questions, no revisiting the mysterious questions on the SJ or derelict and ot lost its realism. Alien was actually believable. Aliens was gung-ho and the dialogue was naff. Dont get me started on Alien 3 and Resurrection. They destroyed the franchise way before AVP did. What started off as a ground breaking, intelligent movie, ended up with a series of mediocre to awful sequels that undermined the original. This is why I am so excited Ridley Scott is back at the helm. We're hopefully back to basics, back to where it began, back to the big questions and hopefully the suspense, the macabre, the realism, the atmosphere. When I watch Alien and Blade Runner, it makes me think about the universe, our future, humanity, etc ....Prometheus will hopefully have the same impact of greater. I am wetting myself in anticipation!!

in my honest heartfelt opinion if i'm honest with myself i totally agree with you stefan i always felt that way but have had to except the events of history regarding the rest of the franchise and force myself to be constructive in the merits of the other films but hand on my heart i only truly love one of those films and it is of course the first and original one. i only brought the blu ray box set anthology because it was so cheap if the film alien had been released on its own i think i wouldn't have even bothered with the rest. and i am talking with reference to the blue ray release.
