The logical person in me would say make note of the planet for the company, then get out of there. However I think in the end I would be Oram and want to explore the planet if sensor readings indicated everything was ok. But I'd ask only a few to come with me and give strict orders to the ship crew to get the hell out of there if something terrible happens.

Jonesy the 2000 colonists stayed on the orbit. They should have quarantined the returning crew once back on Covenant but then we would not have had the shower scene. It is very hard to please everyone.

I will bring at max 5 people to investigate the Paradise. And I will not risk 2000 colonies for further rescuing.

I did not know the teardrop ship is related to seeding, I hope it is not because it would reduce the population of Paradise to cattle status. And honestly by the look of some in the crowd they were not the best seeds in the universe. But  if they were just seeds and David found out it is perfectly logical he would want to stop the seeding and destroy the seeds.

If they showed the teardrop ship they opened the door to the underground hangar and imo both kinds of ships do not belong to the Paradise population.

I am sorry for always going off topic, need more discipline.

Still we should have seen already biomechanical Neomorph and Xenomorph. There must be something else apart from Fox avoiding further payments to Giger estate.

@Daliens

The nature of the relationship between the Teardrop Ship and the sacrificial acolyte, the Engineers of LV 223/the Juggernaut and the Engineers of Paradise and docking vessel is a most interesting topic which many different fans have speculated on since Prometheus was filmed.

My remark about the space gardeners was built on Ridley Scott's remarks that later in the narrative they will return to Paradise to the devastation caused by David and will be one of the elements which arrive on Origae 6. As we have only witnessed benevolent seeding linked to the tear drop ship it then begs the question who did they population, whose appearance sent out mixed messages, expect to be returning and from where.

However my real point to the thread starter is that this cut scene belongs to the audacious world building of Prometheus rather than the entertaining routine and for me dull and predictable ALIEN prefix movie Covenant and Pietro edited it out because it did not fit with the latter vision.Wayne Haag's brief, who was responsible for the art work, was to show the Engineers Tech (Nothing Xeno related) but then it is up to Pietro and Ridley to decide whether its crucial to the film. As the Engineers were reduced to texture in Covenant and were their to serve David's narrative it make sense to exclude the scene. That is the methodology by which the scene was cut and reminds us of the artistic dilemmas of trying to blend elements of Prometheus (much was discarded as "Bullshit" to quote Wayne Haag) with a repositioning as a straight ALIEN prequel movie.

and with a famously unlucky name in the Alienverse, would probably would've ended up sharing Oram's fate......

As a rule, on receiving a distress signal you have to provide assistance and send a rescue mission. The rogue transmission was not exactly a distress signal but weighed a lot along with the apparently hospitable conditions on the planet to send a (re)search team. They did all the checks and tests before so it seemed safe to land. It would have taken longer waiting for instructions from the Company and most probably they would have been requested to act as they did. Oram decision was reasonable and as a Captain you don't need the opinion of each and every crew member. No democracy on board a ship, sorry to dissapoint you auximenes

@joylitt the goo itself is a FORM of AI, while some of what it CREATES is biomechanical.

Now, the biomechanical ship in Alien makes sense, as well as the biomechanical Space Jockey.

This should have never been deleted. Glad they at least released it.

@joylitt It's a biomechanical construct, just like Giger designed it to be. A fusion of humans and machines linked together.

Wait a minute... so the xenomorph is also a robot???? if that's true, there they go all the biological, lovecraftian elements of the saga down the drain.

I would take a closer look and survey the entire planet from afar. Once I find out it is or was inhabited I would make sure to report my findings back to Earth and await for instructions before landing on Origae 6, because not  being so far away from Paradise, it might have already been claimed by another civilization.

auximenesAlien: Covenant ForumWho are you...Oram or Daniels?

I would not have stopped there. Swung by and scanned it from orbit, sure, but not landed. Report the findings back to W-Y and continue the mission as planned. There are 2,000 other people on the mission who you can't consult on their opinion. You can't go putting them all into potential danger without giving them their say.

Of course, the transmission would probably have taken longer than it would take to look at the planet and go down to explore it.  Daniels mentioned how long it would take in the novel and maybe in the movie too.  I forget her exact words, but she basically said her official protest wouldn't matter in events happening around her since it would take so long to send the transmission.

Still, I guess the Covenant crew could have waited until they communicated with the funding corporation until they made a decision.  I wonder how long of a wait that would be?

That waiting wouldn't make a very good movie though.

I guess the Covenant could have kept moving towards Origae-6 and could have turned around if weyland Co. said to explore it after they did some quick research.

I'm probably more of a Daniels, considering they already had a plan mapped out and didn't need to risk anything by taking a closer look. The again i'm super curious and would at least have messaged back to W-Y about the planet.

I do see that as a possibility that Walter would help the Engineers.  I am sure he could share some of the data he has obtained from his personal experiences around David to prove that he had nothing to do with the destruction of "Paradise"; plus, he would be useful for the Engineers to learn about David so they can better form a plan to stop him.

Swap-out accomplished. I had both posted until I verified things with you, but have done the swap-out now. :)

ALIEN: Manticore is going very well, albeit slowly.

The facts of the matter are that keeping track of all the details and characters and critters as I write the whole climax-scene takes a fair bit of time per-page as I double-check things as I go along to ensure:
I don't forget something.
Don't llow continuity-errors to creep in.
To ensure a properly realistic feel/sense of things, etc..
I'm working on it right now, and it is slowly and steadily coming along. :D

The final edit won't take very long at all, a couple days at most, even with assorted housemeows 'helping'. :D

THEN, it will be DONE, along with the two short-stories, and all three will be published on Scribd and announced here so folks shouldn't have any trouble finding them. :)

joylittAlien: Covenant Forum*Spoilers* Walter is in "Awakening"

If you assume David wanted Walter gone for good, it would be too dumb of him not to remove his brain and destroy it. After all, he already knows that stabbing him doesn't work. If he had time to amputate his own arm, dress up and fix his hair, he positively has time to do that too. So if Walter is alive, David and the writers would be very lame. By the way, he also tells Daniels that David has been terminated (we know he is referring to Walter, though).

Capt TorgoAlien: Covenant Forum*Spoilers* Walter is in "Awakening"

If David was more ruthless he would just sever his head but I agree that is/was the plan. The 'We are Walter ' promo talks of the new owner merging his DNA with the Walter model being built. Thus I think he could be in the Jockey chair merging with the mechanism while being hugged and busted. The back of the pilot chair in Prometheus sure looks a lot like the details on the classic chap. Won't bother me either way it runs out if it all, I just am begging for intelligent believable characters. Surely Scott would not have filmed all that Walter stuff only to make nothing of it at some point. Or maybe Walter stuff was just showing he was different than David but I doubt it.

Audiences for the test screenings are to blame for that. If they say something was confusing, or make many questions, then they cut or add scenes.

I wish they would stop cutting scenes like this from the films

This and the Engineer speaks scene from Prometheus are good examples of what should remain in the finished product.

I wonder why they delete scenes like this? Drives me nuts

It's 60 seconds that adds so much to the story.

It's just like the engineer speaks scene, only another, what? 30-45 seconds and it added (I think) a lot to the Prometheus story.

Blackwinter-witch yes please for the swap :)

This new story is running riot on my imagination (in a good way) and although I will be come back to that original story I will need to review/re-assess many of the characters in particular....so this may be vastly different when I return lol

I went through about 1/4 of the Acidglow video before realizing it was not the actual video from the blue ray. No big deal. I will hold out for the DVD. I guess it is for the best since that video would likely be from an illegal site if it were released right now.

iRaptus/dk - This special scene 'Advent' is available on the digital HD version as well together with the Phobos video.

Please watch the video by AcidGlow, he offers a fairly profound description of the extra scene in question.

The commenters highlight that this scene should have been used at the end of the movie since it gives more info than the relevant lines from the novel.

As for the movie, the burst scenes are brutal in high def, the neomorph burst and attack scene with that ost music is shocking. I think it is better than the theatre experience, the scenes are not dark, you see everything.
