@Frantz: Do you have a link to the Ridley Scott interview on MTV to prove what you wrote about the final thing we see, which is the facehugger? Or are you just speculating?

@craigamore: I am not attacking 20thcenturybuick personally, I am attacking his ideas. Ideas are not people and they should be challenged when they are presented in a public forum like this.

@Nrlfetmefan,
"I am going to take a leap here and say that there eventully has to be an alien(queen)in the story somewhere."
It's also possible that all of those eggs we see in Alien (had to be thousands and thousands stretching into the distance) were grown by the derelict. That makes the most sense to me, especially if the derelict, when not crashed, is organic and alive.

@ Charlie - I agree, the Kothoga was pretty cool. At first I was disappointed in it - before I had seen the movie I had already formed a picture of the beast in my head from the description in the book and in the movie it was totally different than what I'd imagined - I was pretty let down. Then later I saw a drawing or maybe it was a maquette of the creature as envisioned by the book writers. When I saw that I was pretty relieved they went with the one in the movie.

Bruce from Jaws... nothin' as scary as the real thing.

Thanks Spartacus, I've been on the fence about Alien Vault, but you've just convinced me I need to make the purchase.
I have heared it said recently that in making this film Scott was heavily influenced by 2001 A Space Odyssey and Pinnochio (of all things) but I found a "Leaked film synopsis" that was posted on anoter forum back in July of 2011 that fits these ideas perfectly.
In 2001 A Space Odyssey, it depicts mankind discovering an ancient extraterrestrial artifact which ultimately leads us on a pretty trippy journey to a "meeting with our makers"
In the "leaked synopsis" we also discovered extraterrestrial artifacts which lead the us to a confrontation with our makers, who at first are pleased with their creations in that they had at last advanced to the point that we were intelligent enough to discover the location and make the journey, at which point they send us on another (and possibly trippy) journey to another place and time - at which point one of the crew - most likely the android David (this is where the Pinnochio part comes in) steals the building blocks or bioformer or whatever (because he wants to be A Real Boy!!) So you proably know the rest - the Gods become wrathful and send their angels to smite us - angels being probably the progenators to the xenos or maybe some other life form..
Anyway, I don't know why I just typed all that - I really just wanted to thank Spart for convincing me to buy that book, really. I am reading 2001 now, and a lot of the ideas in there made me think of how well they would fit into what we know so far about Prometheus.

Besides the original '79 Alien, I think the Kothoga from the movie The Relic was a really cool design.

Maybe he's not a 'infected human' at all.... Maybe he's a company robot that is all messed up looking from having a flamethrower used on him?

Ridley Scott WORDS :
"“I have to redesign the elements that led to the thing you finally see in Alien, which is the FACE HUGGER…I don’t want to repeat it. The alien in a sense as a shape is worn out..maybe we’ll come up with something different.""

Mmmmmmmm.... I can definitely see what you're saying Snork, but it could also be argued that it is the chestplate on the suit that is making what looks like the outline of a breast, and I don't think Shaw's hair is.... I think it looks a little curled at the top maybe? And I don't think in any image we've seen of Shaw so far that her hair looks that short.
I'm definitely seeing the mohawk. But I do concede that the form looks somewhat feminine. Photoshop job of Mohawk Man's hair and Shaw's bod to throw us all off? No that's taking it too far even for me :-P
ReplyGavinPrometheus Forumflame throwerFeb 28, 2012
First I wanna comment an the question of why the crew are using flamethrowers instead of guns. When in space the last thing you would want is a gun, for the obvious reason that you could shoot a hole in the hull and thus vent atmosphere. Flamethrowers would therefore make more sense. Also flamethrowers seem to be a staple of the Alien franchise and could be another tentative link to that franchise.
Yes, there is a scene were we see characters holding small firearms, but these are probably used as a last resort for the reason I have stated.
Now onto this image...

I have heard a lot of people referring to this image as being of the mohawk mutant escaping the flamethrower. I don't think it is, I think the person in this image is Noomi Rapace aka Elizabeth Shaw. The figure is definitively feminine and this individual seems to have dark ragged hair obscuring their face.

Remember people to use IMO when stating your opinions of what you think may or may not be in the film, the actual facts about Prometheus are thin, hence everybody's speculations.
ReplyCypherPrometheus ForumFacehuggers ? Feb 28, 2012
That is indeed a good question, but remember that the Engineers (Space Jockeys?) are a fair bit bigger than us, so you could imagine that if there were a few Jockeys on that ship then there would be a fair bit of organic material to use in conversions.
To be honest I'm not certain of this theory but I think it's a solid one. I really wish this was out already, the wait is starting to do my head in. Been waiting for this for as long as I can remember. Which is awhile. I'm not as old as some of the other members here, but I am a rabid sci-fi and horror movie fan :-P so it FEELS like I've been waiting as long as they have even if they got to see it in cinemas when it was first released. Man, I wish!

cypher- well noted with the "what happened to the rest of the crew" and the fact we did see brett and dallas turning into eggs in the directors cut- cant believe i missed that- i think that would be insane if the eggs were formed from already living matter. the only thing i would point out tho is there are thousands of eggs down in the cavern. that would mean if that were to happen there would have to be thousands of life forms in order to make them.
heres a question who would all these life forms be.
ReplyCypherPrometheus ForumFacehuggers ? Feb 28, 2012
Welcome to the forum Nrlfetmefan :-) It isn't actually LV-426 where the majority of the movie takes place, in fact I'm guessing we'll only see that in the last 15 or 20 minutes. It's allegedly set on the Space Jockey's home world for the most part.
I don't think there will be a queen, however I do think we're going to see the Alien in it's earliest form, which according to reports (have a look through previous threads for more info) are effing HUGE. And I am hoping, in all honesty, that we do get an explanation as to how the eggs got there in the first place. In fact I think it has a lot to do with the question Lambert poses to Dallas in the original Alien, "What the hell happened to the rest of the crew?" on the derelict ship they find. I really think the rest of the crew were turned into those eggs, because you see it happening to Dallas and Brett in the Director's Cut of Alien. The Queen alien was James Cameron's idea, and was meant to give us a point of reference to something we know, which I think made them less scary. Intergalactic ants? Nah. Ridley Scott's ideas were better I think, and in fact am watching Alien as I type this :-P The monsters are (hopefully) going to be new, twisted and scary as hell.

Hi everyone...I am new to the forum and have to say that I am excited to read all the great input about the movie. I am equally interested to see where the writers are taking this one.
About the face huggers and if we will see them or not, well, who knows?.. If I may, I would like to point out the obvious. IF the movies takes place on lv426 and IF the crashing sj ship is the crashed ship from alien/aliens, than I am going to take a leap here and say that there eventully has to be an alien(queen)in the story somewhere. I say this simply because of all the organic eggs found in the cavern below the sj ship in Alien. We see the ampoules in the prometheus trailer, we saw organic eggs in Alien. IF it is same place something must have laid them. This suggests to me there there has to be an alien. Maybe the eggs we saw in alien were first generation and are the result of the prometheus storyline?

agreed, i think Tubular Bells is quite a beautiful sounding track,
albeit a haunting one. Mike Oldfield had a remix of a song he did in 1995
called "Let There Be Light" (Ultraviolet Mix) that track is really GREAT
much like Tubular Bells, it holds up even today
Replyalteredstate.Prometheus ForumOk...so I'm totally bored.....Feb 28, 2012
Yes its a true classic the exorcist but tubular bells suited the film to.

@alteredstate: ah, how cool. i will have to check them out.
i know of a few members that came and went thru Tangerine Dream
over the years, Yahan Schmoelling being the most notable, he ended
up doing a few score for some other sci-fi related projects
a side note about Tangerine Dream,
William Friedkin heard TD's sound and really liked it
they were supposed to write the original score for The Exorcist,
but do to scheduling conflicts, they were unable to, so the compromise
was that Freidkin had some of their more avant guard sounding music
playing at the theaters where the film was set to show, to "set the mood"
that film freaked me out hardcore for a long time,
and was the basis of some truly sleepless nights in my long gone youth
the irony of it all, is that Ridley Scott said he specifically watched,
and re-watched The Exorcist numerous times when he was in the preliminary
stages of setting up the ALIEN film shoot, he said something to the affect
that, THAT film above all others helped him with the fear factor he desired
for ALIEN
who knew....

I'M into a band called the star sound orchestra who were part of the psychedelic scene back in the late 1990s and early 2000 the keyboard player is a guy called Steve Schroyder, who was a member of the tangerine dream and their music is really good well worth checking out.

@alteredstate: speaking of Ron Fricke, i was lucky enough to see his IMAX
film "Chronos" back in the mid-1980's when it debuted at the IMAX here in
Lost Angles, it was a really beautiful, and equally pensive film to behold
i did see Baraka, only i saw it on cable, another beautifully pensive film
experience, haven't seen it on Bluray though, but i'd guess it looks great.
i will look for it. thanx for the info
Replyalteredstate.Prometheus ForumIMAXFeb 28, 2012
the guy who developed the imax camera was ron fricke who developed the idea and the technology to sell so he could get the money to travel the world and to make one of the best films ive ever seen on blue ray BARAKA.
I brought this recently and the 70 mm negative has been put through 8 k digital process restoration and the result is staggering quite simply the best blue ray film i have ever seen.

@alteredstate: yep, i sure have. i've been into Tangerine Dream's sound
ever since i heard their awesome score for the film "Risky Business" back in 1983
i feel hard and deep in love at first listen in that regard
i will say, i am not into Tangerine Dream's sound after their album "Optical Race"
sadly, their sound became mediocre sounding to me, but...their healthy discography
leading up to that point has made me a genuine fan of their classic sounding albums
Edgar Froese,
the founder of of TD has some really awesome sounding solo albums too
i did enjoy the film Legend,
it was BEAUTIFULLY photographed, and Tim Curry...WOW!
ReplyshardyPrometheus ForumIMAXFeb 28, 2012
IMAX can be either really great, or really mediocre
i saw "300" in IMAX, and was sadly disappointed since it wasn't filmed in IMAX
proper, it was merely formatted to IMAX. i can't say for certain if PROMETHEUS
is being filmed in IMAX proper, if so then awesome, if not, i'm with Cinefan, i will
be at the Arclight Hollywood hoping and praying the film blows my simple mind
times will tell...

I was going to ask if this thread had anything to do with fire being a weakness of the creatures in this movie, just like in the Alien franchise. Looks like everybody beat me to it. I do wonder now if Space Jockeys are as flammable as the familiar xenomorphs....
....oh snap now I'm thinking about how "fire" is symbolic due to this movie's name and the mythos behind Prometheus himself.....but I'm too tired to dabble into it, and I think you guys don't need to hear it when it comes to flamethrowers. Seriously; a flamethrower is what it is, plain and simple, no philosophical hullabaloo necessary. o_O
