honestly sparky, you didn't know that Giger designed Sil, I thought that was common knowledge?
I especially liked the cocoon idea on the train.

There was something about "Natashia K" or whatever her name was/is and that whole thing That I loved...but until just now I had NO IDEA it was H R GIGERS work that was doing this to me subconsciously, I had no idea any part of that franchise was his doing...Thanks...awesome info.
Replyskyguy1054Prometheus ForumProgenitor (your thoughts) Feb 27, 2012
HR Giger was closely involved with the design work in the Species movies and it seemed to me there were ideas/themes he got to expand on there that the original Alien didn't have time or budget for. Having said that, I hope Ridley carefully researched those, if only to be sure and do something very distinct.

@20thcenturybuick and @Bio,
I'm still not opposed to the ampoules being Canopic Jars. But the reason I put the picture in is to state that if they are Canopic Jars, I guess one would not be opened. Here is a thread from not to long ago.
Debris Thread
Bio, like you said, it's strage the way they open. If you look at one closed, it looks like it can be unscrewed. But this pic shows a very fine (thin) lid, if even a lid. You are right it may have exploded. I think this maybe something but the "Snake in the Peanut Can" gag.
You know, where you open the peanut can and a snake springs out...
You may say there is acid in there.. but I'll have to go with something living... Looks like David is crouched and scanning the area for whatever was in the ampoule. What's your take, Jake?
Replyskyguy1054Prometheus ForumIMAXFeb 27, 2012
I'm too busy(lazy?) at the moment to check IMDB, but if this flick is being shot in anamorphic widescreen, which Ridley likes to do, that is obviously a very different aspect ratio from Imax.

I have to say kids, that folks on this site are generally pretty courteous, a nice change from some other sites. It's the general positive vibe here that keeps me coming back and not bothering with some other groups!

The original score by Jerry Goldsmith, by far. All I ever had was the old LP. I just got the 2 disc set from Intrada and it is unbelievable. As far as I can tell this 2 disc set has pretty much every cue that was used in the film plus all the music from the LP that wasn't in the film as well as some alternate takes. I'd encourage any fan of Alien & film soundtracks to pick up this set. Intrada's site is here.

the bottom line is that the new guys have to do this as a courtesy to the rest of us and not the other way around...in fact...EVERYONE IS technically required here to do the RIGHT THING BEFORE making a new thread, take the three-five minutes of time, and check and see if anyone already posted your topic in question...it's just the right thing to do...we are working on a new search function to make it easier for everyone but have asked several times that in the interim everyone do this...it's o.k. if you do not, but you run the risk of having the thread locked...no disrespect intended here, it's just the law of the land right now.

I'm almost positive that it is LV-426 as well. The condition of the planet as seen in the first film can be easily explained. For one thing the surface of the planet has a very volcanic look to it, as if it's very geologically active, so we can get many and varied landscapes in only a small area (assuming this is true). The crew in the original could have landed during a "small" storm, explaining why the weather in ALIEN seems harsher than what we saw in the trailer. Remember that in the teaser we do see Shaw get picked up by what looks like a windstorm.
Also, regarding the derelict, I looked up original drawings of the derelict and compared them to what's in the teaser, and I see hardly any differences. I really think its the same ship, and I'll be really surprised if it isn't.
ReplyshambsPrometheus ForumAnswers Right in Front of Us: A Writer's Perspective of PrometheusFeb 27, 2012
It most likely that Prometheus will be very based or influenced by the original ideas that ridley had intended for the film Alien. but on the other hand think that Scott said that Prometheus going backwards... in no way forward... probably the concept will be new and creative mixing with some ideas of the book of Alien.
what I wonder is whether the temple pyramid is a paleontological/archaeological location on Earth where the vestiges of the engineers/space jockeys race or is a structure of the alien planet...
By the way @Cain1977, nice thread.

To be honest, I wouldn't at all be surprised if RS rehashes a lot of themes from the original. I think he's going to use Prometheus to expand ideas he was only able to touch on in the first ALIEN.

@ DB - You know I find it strange that if you take elements of the original film and elements of the Speilbergs you would have an almost perfect adaptation of the novel.

@ bunny - I have a wealth of knowledge of how the film industry works. There are countless films that propose different theories than those proposed by science or religion. Fiction can be whatever the hell it wants to be...
For example Mission to Mars and the film adaptation of Doom propose that humans originated from Mars. This goes against both the evolution theory and the creation theory.
Thus Ridley can do whatever he want's in Prometheus.

@andycheal1964, The alien Queen is a concept of James Cameron. Ridley Scott design a completely different lifecycle for the creature. conclucion isn't necessary a Queen, and besides this very thrashed this concept... personally already hope to see new and fresh things based on the work of Giger and Ridley...
Best regards

I really don't think this movie is going to end in a way that would open up the beginning of Alien. If it did, then there wouldn't be a reason/possibility for a sequel to Prometheus or a true prequel for Alien.

Re: the "things that appear to be small, will turn out to be enormous." I expect Prometheus will be a big slap in the face to humans' understanding of science and religion.
Science - We're a miracle (and pinnacle) of evolution and life as we know it. We can achieve the technological sophistication to understand the universe and its inner workings.
Religion - We were conceived by a loving God as his ultimate creation, granted Eden and the plants and lesser beasts as our domain.
Humanity inflates itself to believe it's the most important lifeform, the most highly evolved. I imagine that through the events of the film, we discover that we are very nearly of no consequence at all in the universe. We're vestigial and prone to being removed, like an enlarged appendix. We were a failed experiment from one of those ampules, ultimately marooned on an Earth-prison to squander our existence and eventually disappear altogether.

ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumHuragokFeb 27, 2012
It would be interesting if something like that was the true brains behind the operation, using other lifeforms to create and destroy life. Maybe the Xenomorph is a devolved version of this true creator.
ReplydbPrometheus Forum100 days baby!!!Feb 27, 2012
I share the excitement of this forum. The last movie I geeked out over was "Cloverfeild" and while it was technically a marvel (tracking the handheld for CGI), I was disappointed overall. And the creature itself was a weak concept for an american "Godzilla".
Before that, it was probably ID4. That was fun.
But nothing has sparked my interest like this movie... ever. Partly due to the nostalgic factor, partly due to the vision being Ridley's again, and largely due to this site! My wife is sick of me bringing it up all the time! I must be doing something right!
