Wow, that's a lot to get out of one image! I would have to agree with you though. They don't seem like killers, hunters or savages. But more so like a race with a specific purpose, possibly driven by some form of religion?

No, you're not alone Neurion, hey so that makes - er - two - of us so far............anyone else - (stunned silence). Oh, ok. Can you inflate CGI? No? There goes Neytiri then outta the window then! As for the gorgeous Charlize Theron, I was thinking more along the lines of some kind of transformation or situation where she becomes 'physically' entwined with the (supposed) concept of the film, namely the emphasis on the 'creation' of the Alien race and Giger's input. I dunno, I've just got a feeling in my water about CT - I certainly can't see her being benevolent in this film. I think her character will surprise us some way. Mexico sounds an exotic place Neurion, which 'border towns' are they, lol.

ZetaReticuliPrometheus ForumA Strong Cast
Certainly Praetorian. They 've got the cream of thespians here. I mean some of the nationalities, and their faces even - very intense and characterful. Look at them: Michael Fassbender - strong-jawed Aryan type (as he played a Nazi before?) Noomi Rapace - I haven't seen 'Dragon Tattoo', but I suspect a very intense female indeed Sean Harris - My God, did you see him as Ian Brady? Lizardy and totally evil. Kate Dickie - not familiar with any of her roles, but on face value she looks like a potential emotional or possibly treacherous 'Lambert' type Idiris Elba - cottoned on to him in 'Luther' which is back with a new series incidentally - excellent and moody performer. Charlize Theron - one minute catwalk beauty and next raging prostitute serial killer ('Monster') - talk about extremes. I trust very much the others will have some quality, but still not familiar with those yet. Yes, what an ensemble so far! This is going to be one headf*** of a film I tell you!

Hi Guys... First post today. I really think that over the past few movies the concept of the Alien has been diluted so much, It has taken away from the mystery. After all...It is only a movie, So lets go on the premise of Ridleys original. * We didn`t really "see" the Alien for any more than a second or two until the end of the movie. This is a classic horror film technique. You`re more scared of what you CANT see. * It is a stand alone film, set in the same universe, I think Ridley Scott is an intelligent enough film maker...He will be very clued in to not making Prometheus AWARE of its other film family ie. Alien ...(by giving a Nod or a wink for fanboys) I think this ruins films completely and trivializes them and insults the intelligence of the new audience I for one hope to god that he doesn`t try to explain too much, Rather I hope he gets us questioning it even more.

I hope Ridley Scott makes this film completely unaware of its other films, It will only insult the intelligence of the new audience I think everyone would expect a similar tagline to "In Space...." I have a feeling that Prometheus is the name of the ship that carries the CAST, But if the marketeers have there way....it could be disastrous. On the theme of "Prometheus" (Prometheus stole Fire from Zeus and gave it to Mankind).... I would love to see something like... Our Greatest Discovery becomes our worst nightmare Thanks, Bishop

This is a pretty interesting topic. Unfortunately we don't know much about the actual story. However, based on the filmmaker's comments and rumors surrounding the project I came up with a few fairly corny taglines. I like the idea of connecting the new films tagline with the original "In space no one can hear you scream"...somehow. I know the last two are somewhat comical...but what the hell. Before the nightmare began…the terror was unleashed. Before the nightmare began…we awakened the beast. Before the nightmare began…WE unleashed the terror. In space the key to our future is discovered…and the source of our oblivion is leashed. In space…terror is in the bloodstream. In space no one could hear them scheme. Somewhere in deepest space...all hell is breaking loose! -Neurion

I like how you guys are using the "Nightmare" analogy, as throughout the Alien films, Ripley would experience nightmares of the creature. In some pieces of "ALIEN" literature, the nightmares some experienced were the Alien's way of telepathically connecting to the individual. Interresting that you both chose to use it. I really like Bishop's tagline and your "Before the nightmare began…the terror was unleashed." Neurion, they both could pass for good taglines in my opinion.

Hard to say, I doubt they will dress her up like any of those concept drawings, but they might roughen all the actors/acvtresses up a bit for this role. What gives the ALIEN movies that "ALIEN" feeling is the dirt, the grit, nothing is clean and shiny. These characters will be fighting for their lives and in the most strangest of places. But who knows what they will look like.

NeurionPrometheus ForumWill Charlize Theron's beauty be subverted?
Hello Guys...Oh, and ALIENetts, I read that Charlize is gonna be playing a character named "Vickers" in PROMETHEUS", so my guess is that she'll be a normal non-alien, human chicky. In this sense, Scott is in the same ball park as the first film, casting a tall, leggy, small busted, no-nonsense, somewhat brazen, survivor type of babe. Except that Theron is an absolute beauty and Weaver was...well...not as much. However, I would love to see some of those Giger "nymphs" manifested on film...just not an ALIEN attached film. I've always found many of them to be attractive...at least in a wierd, mono-chromatic, bio-mechanical, perverted, "queen of the dead" kinda way. I hope I'm not alone in that sentiment. We guys can be pretty strange with our sexual appitites I guess. Most dudes I know joke about the sexiness of blue or green females from AVATAR, STAR TREK, and STAR WARS...or Giger's work. Human women tend to get annoyed by guy's attitudes in that regard. I usually remind them of the dog and pony or donkey shows that girls do in Mexican border towns. Well put and quite comical I might add, haha. I would definately love to be part of the artwork design for the film. As well as some say in the plot. But I think Ridley will do a more than fine job delivering us a fantastic ALIEN movie. So I'm not too worried with regards to plot. Just when they mentioned "bigger Aliens". To me the scary aspect of Alien was that it wasn't too big. Not much bigger than a human. When the monster is too large, it's no longer scary. As seen in Alien vs Predator; the Alien Queen was huge compared to James Cameron's Queen in Aliens, and because of this, it had little to no shock value. No scary edge, it was more like a big dinosaur. My concern is that they get the creature design down perfectly. Not eliminating most of what Alien is known for but yet introducing new features which will once again make Alien scary and not just some CGI raptor knock-off.

Hello Alien Zealots! Wow, to be involved with the PROMETHEUS Project…Say, that would be cool. Of course, it would be “wild” just to be “immortalized” in cinema…but especially in the ALIEN universe. If I was to be an actor or an extra in the cast, I would love to have a great death scene. An unforgettable scene, where the Alien violates the HELL out of my character in a deliberate, face to face confrontation (like Brett and Parker), before slowly taking my life with its long nailed fingers embedded in my ribcage. With the Alien’s sinister grin “up in my grill”, and with my last breaths I spout out my final cheesy dialogue, “That’s right chum, just do it! You'll never outlast us, you don’t have the smarts. You can’t even read…you ignorant fuck! Come on, let us embrace at last…Ahhhhhhh!…” Now that would be sweet! HaHa. On the other hand, I would have preferred to be part of the script writing process, or maybe a “Special ALIEN Continuity Consultant” with creative control and final cut authority. Do you think that’s asking too much? Obviously, I would be entitled to all other special privileges therein, or shuold I say Theron...such as full access to Charlize Theron’s trailer, complete with private slumber parties..."the works". This way I could act out my secret fantasy of ravaging a beautiful woman, whilst dressed as the Alien. Hey...Don't Judge! Pacino did it…as Lucifer in “The Devils Advocate”, so what the hell! Seriously though, I would’ve liked to be part of the script writing and art direction teams. I don’t mind knowing the story, inside and out…as long as I could help craft it into a great ALIEN picture. ~Neurion

I think it would be cool to be a part of the story development, but I would rather not know how the story goes and save it for the theatres. That way it's more suspenseful. But to be in there to see how it's made would be very cool!

Hey Neurion,

I'm currently working around with our text editor, trying to make the < br / > tags not to appear while you type, but they are just the HTML tag form for a line break. So, to insert a linebreak, just click ENTER and it will insert the code required for that line break.

But I do hear you, and i've got a few things I need to imrpove and fix around the site. As I mentioned earlier we did not expect the site to get so popular so quickly. So we're working as hard as we can to polish it up.

Hope this helps Neurion, we should have a better text editor in place shortly. I'm working on it. Thanks for posting!

Hey Dule, I was also just being sarcastic and joking with you. So, I apologize if I seemed angry. I wasn’t. I guess I just have a sarcastic, smart-ass sense of humor. My English could probably use some polishing as well. Maybe I should add a “HA HA” or a “LOL”, or something like that that in the future. Any ways…back to Alien eggs. Like I’ve posted in the past, the eggs/silo/chamber appear to be in a cavern located below the old derelict ship. And the hole/opening that Kane is lowered into, appears to be acid burned on it’s edges. It does not look like a designed opening in the floor. It looks like an Alien or Aliens acid burned a hole through the floor, through the hull, and perhaps through the top of the hill or mountain that the derelict is perched upon. This opening in the mountain top revealed a cavern in which the Aliens evidently built a hive of some kind. Now that’s one possibility, Another is…maybe the egg chamber was built by the space Jockey(s) since the egg cavern looks like the interior of the derelict vessel, and they were perhaps not crash landed, but had simply landed there in order to drop off or pick up Alien egg cargo…and something went wrong. The fact is that the filmmakers are just making the story up as they go. So they can just develop it in any direction or way they choose. Having said that, I think there are few different scenarios that are possible or likely… 1. Regardless of what Ripley said in ALIENS, the Eggs and Aliens could be indigenous to the planetoid…unlikely though...because it appears to be a lifeless, dustbowl of a planet/moon…essentially a great “rock” in space. 2. The Space Jockey(s) brought the Alien organism to the planetoid to grow or farm them in the silo/hatchery, that they’ve prepared for this purpose. Whether the Aliens have developed through a natural evolution/adaptation or they were engineered by Space Jockeys or others, is still a mystery. __ As far as egg longevity is concerned, we know that bird, reptile and other types of eggs can remain viable for different amounts of time after being laid. And that they are organically disconnected from the layer after they are laid. However, they still have to be warmed and nurtured prior to hatching, or they often fail to develop and die off. Obviously, the eggs in question are “Alien eggs,” and are therefore not necessarily subject to natural earthly laws or limitations. We really don’t know how long the eggs in ALIEN have been sitting there. It could be years, decades, centuries, or perhaps longer…who knows? The Space Jockeys could have been some kind of interplanetary Bio-weapons cartel or dealers. Or perhaps they were subordinate to the Aliens somehow. Maybe they are in fact part of the Alien’s natural life cycle. Could be that Space Jockey’s are the usual and intended host, and that Kane was just in the wrong place at wrong time. In the end, The films images, based on H.R. Giger's work, were simply chosen because they looked really "Cool" and..."Alien", not because they made any made logical sense. Of course that's just my humble opinion. Peace, Neurion P.S. I think that "The Eighth Passenger" is a rather mysterious, slick and Badass title.

WHOW....easy man...dont angry on me, I just trying to share my thoughts with you all...my english is maybe poor but I realy give my best to express myself...
I didnt want to point to other movies when I speak about diferent sizes and forms of alien creatures (Alien 3 was last degradation of story for me, Alien 4 was just out of any story....creative imagination but not in place)...simply, I belaeve in posibilities prior first movie?!? and posibility to understand creature's original form...secund thing, about eggs...in 1st movie we can see vast areas in Jokey's vessel filled with eggs, hybernating...right??? And "Pilot" himself is petrified or something like that, indicating that he is dead for some time...but egg was realy active when Kane approach it....who nurture those eggs???...tubes and vains connected to what, ship itself, environment??? Don't know...many organisms have capability to hybernate in reality, and I dont refear to bacterial life....I do realy honor your thinking about this subject in general but something else bothers me...what about that "pilot", he is the key to all things...what about his chestburster, I dont belaeve in some sugestions that Jokey's alien layed all those eggs...because it is clear that area with all those eggs is constructed just for them, not random placed. Again, sorry for lack of english gramary and misunderstandment (?!?)...I'm in these thoughts for about 30 years now :)))

When Ridley Scott describes “PROMETHEUS” as "a new, grand mythology and universe", but with "Alien's DNA", I’m filled with a lot of cinematic excitement…and dread. The potential for science fiction greatness and ground breaking story telling is pretty damn “cool.” However, the reverse is also very possible…if not probable. Hey, I don’t want to rain on anybody’s parade, but we’ve been getting’ our Alien-lovin’ asses kicked for about 20 years…with weak sequels. And Sir Ridley hasn’t exactly directed a real “Barn Burner” since “Gladiator”…11 years ago. MOMENTARY SEGUE …You know, I really enjoyed the small sci fi movie “Pitch Black”. As flawed as it may be, it kind of reminded me of “old school” ALIEN narrative. It was a “cool” little horror action flick, with pretty interesting characters and monsters. But, David Twohy decided to expand the fairly modest and personal film into a “new, grand mythology and universe”, so to speak, in the form of THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK…it butchered and under-minded a lot of the merits that Pitch Black had brought to bear. Riddick went from being a badass killer criminal with a change of heart, to being a prophesized savior of the universe foretold by the ancient “Furyan” prophesies. Give me a break! After enjoying a little bit of success, Twohy just couldn’t “keep it in his pants.” He had to go all George Lucas on us…with his characters. Darth Vader has to be Luke’s Pappy and bring balance to the UNIVERSE!!! And Boba Fett becomes the hinge pin to the whole clone thing. I’m just afraid that same thing is going to happen here with ALIEN/Prometheus. Even in the ALIEN series thus far, the Ripley character suffers from over development. If I watch the first and last Alien film back to back, to me the Ripley characters do not resemble each other in the slightest (cloning not withstanding). I’m fed up with excellent…or at least fun original films, being soiled by over-produced and self indulgent sequels…i.e. PIRATES 2,3 & 4 or Jurassic Park 2…all out for the buck. Just like Weyland Yutani…aka “THE COMPANY”. ~Neurion

Hey Neurion,
What do you think of this ending to Alien?

Ridley Scott is reportedly quoted as saying that originally he wanted a much darker ending. He planned on having the alien bite off Ripley’s head in the escape shuttle, sit in her chair, and then start speaking with her voice in a message to Earth. Apparently, 20th Century Fox wasn’t too pleased with such a dark ending.

Holy poo Batman! You Alien-lovin' folks have been busy! I just arrived back from the far away planet called Kan-sas where a reliable internet connection is apparently too much to ask for. Grrr. Anyway...great reading all the stuff.

Couple things quick...Neurion is right. We are SO teetering on a knife edge when it comes to getting a brilliant film worthy of Herr Scott or another in the brutally unsatifying stuff we've been subjected to since Alien '79.

Rick...have also read that comment about Ripley's head/Alien sending message...I always took that as a bit of dry tongue-in-cheek humor from Scott...but if not in jest then I thank the invisible sky fairy for not letting that blunder happen.

Until later!

Hey Rick, Yeah…I’ve heard that piece of trivia before. I wonder if it’s true. If it is, I think FOX probably made the right choice. Not necessarily because of the darkness of such an ending, but also the potential for an unintentional comical appearance to the scene, and the disastrous possibility of a humorous reaction. Although I sometimes respect films and filmmakers that have the “stones” to go against conventional wisdom and risk big money by going with the dark or disturbing denouement, I love the way ALIEN ends. However, I would’ve loved to have had them shoot that ending. It would make a great outtake. Few cinema storytellers would be able to pull that off. It would’ve however, severely changed the nature and dynamics of the Alien, whether it was speaking through mimicry or some form of cognitive and sentient thought. Also, could have tied in with Parker’s comments to Brett, “Whatta ya…some kinda parrot?” I think that it would’ve been overkill. With so much fear, suffering, and death in the picture…I think that the relieving ending was earned by Ripley, Jones, and the audience. This is coming from Neurion, who’s a big fan of “No Country for Old Men,” “Night of the Living Dead”, “The Thing” and many other flicks that have downer or just creepy endings. I don’t know…there’s just something about that first film that’s…well…”classy”. Jerry Goldsmith’s beautiful scoring combined with the soaring classical music in the movie’s last moments are a big part of how and why ALIEN is elevated from a B-horror film…to a unique new genre. Never to be reproduced or matched to this day. ~Neurion

Heresy…what the Hell? I said I imagined it…I didn’t film it! Sheeeesh! Anyhoo, since I’m kind of an ALIEN purist, for me all roads lead back to the original Ridley Scott film. I have a weird ability that enables me to enjoy the hell out of ALIENS, appreciate a lot of ALIEN 3, and for the most part, despise ALIEN RESSURRECTION, without any of three films really impacting or spoiling the themes or accomplishments of the first film. For me the idea of Alien queens, warriors, drones, double jointed legs, fish tails, dog-aliens, Ox-Aliens, acid spitting Aliens, protuberance-less backs, pregnant-belly queen, Dopey, Baby Huey, Resurrection Alien or a freakin’ Pred-Alien hybrid don’t mean “JACK SMACK!” To me all of those versions looked weak, or out right crappy.-----As far as Alien eggs and survival, anything organic needs to ingest sustenance in order to grow, develop, or sustain life. Therefore, the alien eggs would have to be fed or sustained by some system. Whether its adult aliens or some other feeding apparatus or system. In ALIEN and ALIENS, the eggs are shown with a net work of arteries or tubes connecting them at their base, perhaps this is a kind of feeding network…analogous to an I.V. in a hospital patient’s arm. None of the Alien films ever show aliens (in any of their forms) eating or consuming human flesh (or any food). They appear to use the human cadavers for reproductive purposes only. The ALIEN in the first film seems to grow from an infant size to a 7’-8’ tall monstrosity within 24 hours. How does it do that? After Kane dies from the chest bursting, none of the crew are killed until after the Alien is full grown…or bigger anyway. Now as a kid, I always just figured that this was a writing or filmmaking over sight. So, I had to rationalize it in my own head. I imagined that the maturing Alien either raided some of the Nostromo food stores or perhaps was mysteriously able to draw its nutrition from the air in the Nostromo itself…somehow. I guess I probably over think stuff too much. I watched the original “The Fly” film with Vincent Price, when I was a boy. It annoyed me that the man ended up with a man-sized fly head and limb, and the fly ended up with a fly-sized human head and arm. I remember feeling cheated. The machine was a teleportation device that supposedly move objects from one place to another in space. Why then did it change the sizes of the objects on this particular occasion? -----So where do the Alien eggs get their chow? Ash the android says at one point, “Well its adapted remarkably well to our atmosphere, considering it’s nutritional requirements…” Whatever those requirements are! …I like the mystery of it all. I think it's better to keep the audience guessing. The more the films explain…the less "alien" the whole thing will become. ~Neurion

Greeting Alienites, I like Dule’s question, which came first…the Alien or the egg? That’s always been a legit question…even with chickens. Since I’m a believer in God, I just apply the creationism concept to the ALIEN fiction. Maybe God created the Aliens “on the sixth day”…”Let there be Aliens…” (I hope this doesn’t start an ALIEN fan JIHAD or religious debate) From this perspective, I’ve always just imagined the adult Alien was created first, the creature in turn generated an egg from whatever life form was available. As far as potential hosts for face hugger insemination are concerned, I just figured that the egg and accompanying hugger would just rest in waiting. The adult alien could nurture the egg until the adult alien died. At least this is the way it appears to work in Ridley Scott’s Director’s cut of the original Film. Perhaps in a host-less environment the adult Alien could offer itself as a host to the face hugger’s implantation to facilitate and incubate the newborn. Obviously, this would be a form of Alien “incest.” However, in my imagination, H.R. Giger’s strangely erotic paintings, the Alien’s defense mechanisms, and survival instincts make this a distinct possibility. I never hear or read fans talking about the possibility of an adult Alien getting face hugged, and an infant Alien ripping through IT’s rib cage. Supplemental cast and crew info suggests that the adult Alien in the ’79 release was had a relatively short life span and that it was blackening and dying as the film neared it’s climax. From that point of view, I could imagine the adult Alien sacrificing itself near the end of its life for the “greater good” and survival of it’s species. Especially, if it realized that it was “on it’s way out” anyway. “ALL OTHER CONSIDERATIONS ARE RECINDED” Neurion

Right...good point and logical one...but watch out, someone may say it is a heresy...hahaha. Anyway, something else intrigues my mind. What kind of alien will appear from that kind of hosting, will that alien restore it's original form and cancel all other genetical influence from previous host (I'm firmly conviced that humanoid alien from movie is product of human host and its not original form of adult alien). I like to think that adult alien is type of worker/warrior class, so there is no need for him to nurture the egg because eggs could, obviously, hybernate by them self for a long time waiting for live host to apear. It is not clearly indicated that adult alien have capacity to lay eggs except latest AvP game where in the end of alien campaign, alien metamorf itself to a queen class...?!? But never mind that game, I dont like that concept, it is too simple. But who knows, after all "they are the perfect organism", adaptable in any way....hehe...

Heresy...what the hell? I imagined it, I didn't film it! Besides, most true, thoughtful artists and "Fictioneers" prefer not to explain every aspect of their work. Rather, they prefer their audience to ponder and think about the possibilities. Any who, I find it hard to believe that the Alien eggs could sustain life for the decades or perhaps centuries that the appear to have been waiting under the Derelict ship, without outside assistance. In both ALIEN and ALIENS, the eggs are seen with a network of tubes or arteries connecting them at their base. Since the eggs are organic, something would have to be feeding them in order for them to sustain life. Whether the adult aliens would perform that function, the face huggers would venture out and forage for nutrition, there would have to be form or way of getting sustenance. In fact heres a brain bender for ya...In the original ALIEN film, in probably less than 24 hours, the Alien creature grows from infant size to 7" -8" tall, before it kills any crew members after the death of Kane. How did it grow so large, so quickly without consuming any of crew post chestbursting, but prior to Brett's killing. It doesn't really make sense. So, as a kid trying to figure that out...I just imagined that the Alien raided some of the Nostromo food stores in order to consume food, nutrients, etc. necessary for maturity. If not that explanation, then it somehow assimilated nutrients or calories right out of the air on the Nostromo. Like our mothers used to say, "You can't grow up to be big and tall unless you right." So what do ya'll think, got any answers for me? ~ Neurion

Hey guys, interesting subject you have here. I was 7 years old when my parents take me to watch that cult movie named "Alien" (in my country translated "8th Passenger"...lol ) back in 1979. I was totally petrified and hypnotized but I wached it to the end without a blink, in past months after that I had one single dream over and over, a scene when alien popup in airduct on Dallas...whau!!! As I grow older and with all other Alien based movies my fear transform to curiosity what is that creature and how it came to be...well, first thing that came to me is, as you pointed is that first movie suggests some crucial things. First of all, it looks like that creature is some sort of "genestealer", it use genes from it's host to adapt itself what explane to me it's humanoid form, that thought lead me to believe that creature's humanoid form is not it's original form. Maybe their quick adaptation to environment and potential host species is "perfection" that Ash indicated. Secund, the derilict ship is obviously used as egg transportation vessel because nothing else significant was found inside except pilot and cargo, the purpose is not clear, maybe for warfare or extinction of some nasty species, maybe they were engineered by "Space Jokeys" or maybe they were natural species once in their natural environment with high capacity for adaptation that was degenerated over time and constant exploatation in various diferent worlds...will see. I hope that Redley Scott will put some light on this subject and ingeniously complete this circle of mistery...I sincerely believe that this will not be another war movie with swarming aliens and hard core GI-s... :)

alien was on cable tv last nite, I turned it off after the ship landed on the planet. my boyfriend was working late last nite and i vow not to watch the movie again alone. The last time i saw alien i had nightmares for 2weeks. I think it's a combination of many factors that makes alien tthe scariest sci-flick of all time. alone in space on a big minning ship in another distant planetary system where no one can here you scream plus fighting a horrrific alien with unkown weakness and origin plus a crazy renegade, back stabbing and deceptive andriod working agianst them makes this movie a classic. one o my all time favorites. I also have another favoriteand that's aliens. On that same note aliens is all time classic. A huge box office hit for the franchise in the 80's. It's a action sci-fi classic this movie was about the action, fighting, courage to face the unkown, revenge and survival of many humans on a distant planet. ripley played the hell out of that chararcter. yeah there was too many weak drone aliens but mama alien gave me what i wanted and everybody else who packed it in to the movie theater. that fight scene with ripley and the queen alien is a icon movie clip that is reconize all aroud the world.
Now as for the other sequels um draining. that all i'm going to say. they tried and was not successful in restoring it back to its glory.
