MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 6:38 AMI enjoy all the plot ideas here but think we are being too literal with some of the things we see in the trailers. For example, a king has his reign and then he dies doesn’t mean we’ll encounter a king. It could be a referral to a species being dominant one day and history the next. The phrase is like saying every dog has his day, or 15 minutes of fame.
Because the movie is called Prometheus doesn’t mean that it’s based on ancient Greek mythology any more than Red Dwarf features small red people.
Also, RS has gone to great lengths to distance himself from Aliens 3 and 4 because of their silly plot lines, even so far as to have them ruled non cannon. I would be surprised if after declaring a movie about alien cloning (ie resurrection) as fan fiction if he goes down the route of time travel, ancient atlanteans, Weyland being an SJ, androids evolving in to xenos etc.
I’m not dissing the theories that are posted as they make great reading but I think they are wide of the mark. I think the movie will be set within believable realistic parameters that all audiences, particular the older generation like me who grew up with the film will believe and not on a way out there sci-fi premise.
Having said that, with my luck the I will be completely wrong and the film will be about an ancient time travelling xenomorph from Atlantis called Prometheus who becomes lost in time following a time travel experiment, temporarily taking the places of other people to put right what once went wrong and hoping that each leap will be the leap home.

MemberTrilobiteApr-06-2012 10:20 AMNo need for a virus, you just lay a few eggs and wait (Hadleys Hope, USM Auriga, Gunnison County), the xenomorphs spread eradicating all life by using them as hosts to propagate.
@ Neph - NO PROTO's, I do not not wanna see the Alien being created in this film. The Mural shows the Xenomorph already exists.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 10:20 AMMice...LMFAO...What would work better for you wirm, Vaporization like in War Of The Worlds? Something that just by being there as you mentioned like a type of Gas? what then? What you say makes perfect sense to me by the way, BUT, Just FYI the Xeno's could trigger some event such as a nuclear explosion just by running into a bomb or stepping on a glass sphere the size of a tennis ball that might kill everything on earth in a heartbeat except the roaches!!!

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 10:21 AM@snork yes, that Mural...Is one of the KEYS to this for sure.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 10:22 AMIm going to throw in my wrench here and say, I hope it has nothing to do with chestbusters or classic Xeno's at all.
The problem with movies now is people feel like they have to be a prequel, sequel or from the same director as"insert money maker here" To be anything good.
What ever happened to first time ideas?
Maybe David got a cave drip in his eye and pricked his finger and a mini xeno is sitting on top of his finger, with all the biomechanical dna it will ever need to evolve.
I'd be fine with it scurrying off and never knowing more about it that is untill...Fox squeezes another cash crop out of the "ALIEN" series....
Why is there only one SJ Ship? If your a confident terraforming/seeding God then you only need one ship per quadrant of space wouldn't you?
Maybe you have a sleep awake cycle if your creating worlds and civilizations you wouldn't need to sit and watch the paint dry, you would take a nap for oh.. a few hundred thousand years.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 10:23 AMI am not so sure that's a Mural as well Snorky, could just be a little Vestibule in the Xeno House near it's front door lol.

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteApr-06-2012 10:24 AM@ Wirnn - Hence the SJ's creating a second batch of children created in their new (suited) image specifically to eradicate the first batch of children (us, and others throughout the universe) created in their old image (humanoid tall blue guy), wiping all of the first batch of children from existence and returning the SJ's to their position as rulers.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 10:30 AM"Don't know why people think an alien race would think along the same lines as us. This is THEIR way of eradicating life, not our way."
I was considering the same thing earlier! They are their own civilization, right? And they have their own way of dealing with things, and another means may have not occurred to them. That could be a possibility.
Who had guns first? The Europeans. That was their means of fighting. Other civilizations didn't use guns until they were introduced.
Look at Star Wars. It's a fictional world of course, but if I recall, none of their vehicles ran on whieels, right? I could imagine that if some civilization had discovered some other technology for transportation they were satisfied with, maybe they will never discover the wheel.
There's a south American tribe that uses a special liquid they put in the water, that paralyzes the fish. That's how they catch them as opposed to using nets or spears.
The Greeks were philosophical, the Arabs mathematical. My point is that each civilization goes in its own direction and has its own means for dealing with its affairs.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 10:38 AMLets throw this one out at you...
Alien Harvest was really the first blueprint for Ridleys idea all along!! hahahaha... That would be HIGH-larious... But it was only the FIRST DRAFT.
And the Xenos are indeed a bio-weapon/terraformer of sorts, but they are in fact JUST BIG FAT ANTS!!!! So yeah, your mural is in fact showing you... The XENO ANTS !!!
Now, the unexpected interaction with HUMANS (who should never have taken a trip to this world) sets in motion of chain of events that leads to the XENO ANTS altering from a straight EGG to Adult cycle to an extrapolation of ours where 1 host/"mother" if you will has to have the "newborn" gestate inside of her.
So instead of 1 single queen laying thousands or even millions of eggs in a "hive" which hatch straight into the same species, they are mistakenly altered into something that now has a partial mamalian life/birthing cycle.
So when the SJ (from 79's Alien) was on his Extinction run to Earth, it was not aware of what exactly had taken place within the Xeno life cycle and was in turn, OVERWHELMED by one of the cargo foiling the "mission".
Hence the warning beacon being set before it died... Indicating that this new uncontrollable terrifying thing even has the power to overwhelm the "overlords"

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 10:42 AM@ want-to-see-prometheusNOW! - I have no doubt that an alien civilization(the space jockeys) would go about things in a different way to us humans, but what I have a problem with is that using xenos just isnt efficient for wiping the planet clean and its logical that the space jockeys, being FAR more advanced than us, should also choose FAR more efficient ways of doing things than us. But like someone else said, maybe the space jockeys dont want to completely clean the planet, and instead just want to get rid of the humans, in which case, the xeno is perfect for that. All smaller life forms like bacteria and Jonesy the cat would still be alive and well!

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 10:43 AMI was the ONE person That absolutely LOVED alien Harvest and I put it to you right now that most of what that Fake script contained was Ideas that are now appearing in the trailer. The Baby Wiggly Ant Like Alien Form and the Engineers to name just 2 Whoppers!

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteApr-06-2012 10:44 AMTo far fetched... its all about fate "the king has reign, and then he dies". Its the fate, the natural order for the SJ's to become replaced, first by the firstborn children then once again by their new Xenomorph children.
The Xenomorphs aren't accidentially altered in anyway or tainted... remember they are the perfect organism.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 10:49 AMWow, you guys keep coming up with some amazing ideas. Great thread. It really gets you thinking about what is possible or plausible in the film given what we know from the previous alien films and trailers and so on.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 10:51 AMSorry... ANTS it is!!
Hahaha..
And the reason that the "Derelict" IS in fact the same ship we see here is that after it manages to take off again, its has an epic submarine battle in space with big frikking lay-sers and gets finally knocked down over LV426.
You see, all along, the Prometheus has been shadowed on its journey by an armed Weyland black ops vessel... Oh...lets say call it.. the ARROWHEAD !!
Hahahaha... Thats it. The submarine battle in space is PART 2 !!
And... and someone is gay.

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteApr-06-2012 10:56 AMThis is the same Derelict and planet (Archeron/LV-426) from Alien/Aliens, why confuse matters by having the ship crash, take-off and then crash again on the next planet. That's bad narrative.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 11:00 AMFreezeHim,
The elements in the cave they explore are dangerous to us, right? The SJs have to be aware they are a danger to other life forms.
Why not spread them all over the planet from the sky. It's like an airstrike before sending in the soldiers to round up the survivors and take over the territory. The Xenos being their troops.
The only thing is, how are the SJs are going to deal with all those xenos running loose on the planet once their mission is accomplished?

WhyDontTheyFreezeHim
MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 11:05 AM@ Want to see -
Yeah, I thought the same thing too about the running loose xenos once the mission is accomplished. Think about it though, I remember reading that Giger said the xenos had a very short life span...like 3 days? So that would be perfect. They do their job(kill the humans) and die shortly after.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 11:11 AMNo need Spartacus...
I still have it.
PS... Xeno ANTS rock!!

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 11:11 AMFreeze,
"They do their job(kill the humans) and die shortly after."
Okay, man. Well then there you go. We got a working theory.
Then I guess I'll have to assume that in 'Aliens' Ripley and the marines didn't know their life span was so short. They could have just waited until they all died?....

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteApr-06-2012 11:11 AM@ Wirrn - I have a friend whom has Crohns disease, he's had it all his life, as did O'Bannon. While it isn't curable it is treatable with medication.
@ WTSPN - Once all suitable host have been used up the Xenomorphs will die leaving behind their eggs. SJ's come down, collect the eggs, eliminate the skeletons and hives of the Xenomorphs (think blue liquid in AVPR or War of the Worlds (Book not films) black fog). The Derelict in Prometheus/Alien is filled with said cargo of eggs.

want-to-see-prometheusNOW!
MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 11:15 AMWell, then maybe if the colonial marines had waited, all they would have had left to wrestle with are a bunch of eggs....

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteApr-06-2012 11:20 AMIf the short life span thing is true, it has never been stated in the films. The Xenomorph's would eventually die out, after how long we simply don't know.

CanadaPhil
MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 11:21 AMCameron sort of threw a monkey wrench into Gigers 4 day life cycle theory in that by the time Ripley and the marines arrive at LV426 after their FTL cryosleep, NEWT has been surviving virtually alone for something like 2 weeks.

Damn did I ever love that idea with the Xeno anthill, found it terrifying when I first read it, also....This IMO is one of the single most fun and "hardly ever seen" openings to any film I have ever.

@whydon't: Just FYI, it was "4 days".
@Wirm: Both Snorky & I are Huge O'Bannon Fans/Respecters.

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteApr-06-2012 11:24 AMAgreed CanadaPhil, I always thought that 4 day's was too short. I imagine the Xenomorphs probably have a decent lifespan to give them time to do their thing.

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteApr-06-2012 11:27 AMExactly Sparky...
Dan O'Bannon and H R Giger are the Sci-Fi Horror equivalent of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, or James Cameron and Stan Winston.

They might just yet pull the wool over everyones eyes!!
Afterall, the scan of the "mountain" sure as hell looks like a HIVE to me!!
What is wrong with that idea anyway? That the "REAL Xeno" were meant as nothing more than WORKER ANTS!! a simple means to an end. They dig, chew the natural local minerals, and adapt the terrain to something new via their secretions and apriation..droppings even!!... But, something unforseen happens making them into NOT what the "overlords" intended.
Personally, I find the tarantuala sized ant idea way more pallatable. The idea of something evolving into something entirely different and terrifying is what this is supposed to be all about isnt it?
