I totally forgot about the targeting a teenage audience part, wasn't Scott originally pushing for a PG-13 rating?

Sorry but i don't twit. Yes, screening was organized for the french médias and from what i can tell, réactions were not enthuasiastic. Once again expectations for the movie were ridiculously high so backlash is inevitable. Second screening will take place tomorrow at ten. Hope i'm not killing the whole thing for people on this forum.

@ astroboy don't worry about killing the film for the people on the boards. I think we are all in desperate need of a reality check before we all go see it theaters ourselves. I want my expectations lowered to a realistic level so I am not crushed when I finally see it.

@Drakeequation; That is what I do, keep it low. Seriously, I had no expectations but to see beautiful visuals so looks like I am in for a treat. :P

@astroboy Could you send me a PM showing why you thought it was confusing but not revealing big details?

@Svanya my expectations were extremely high, I actually thought this was going to be better than Blade Runner, Alien, Aliens, and 2001 a Space Odyssey. Don't know why, but I just had the feeling that this was going to be the be-all-end-all science fiction masterpiece of the century. Should have known better as soon as Lindelof showed his face in interviews sitting beside Scott...

@astroboy Thank you again, astroboy for your honest opinion and for not give out too many spoilers... do not worry , we are still watching the movie!!!

Why on earth would you guys be mad at lindelof?? Ridley hired him ffsake and he read the story lindelof wrote and he directed the movie so he saw what was going on... If it's crap it isn't soley lindelof's fault. XD Ridley had had hits and misses his whole career, one thing stands though, his movies are ALWAYS visually stunning and the music/Soundtracks are to die for.

What i don't get is why Scott/Fox choose not to work with on the project. His vision is cruelly missing.

Drakeequation

MemberOvomorphMay-28-2012 3:56 PM
@ Svanya I dunno, Matchstick Men, Hannibal, A Good Year, and Body of Lies weren't all that visually stunning.

@Drakeequation When the next sci-fi masterpiece arrives, nobody will see it coming. I don't think it will be anything that had to fill in some big shoes, and it won't be something that had the titanic pressure from a big studio marketing campaign.

I think they chose Lindelof because he knows how to sell a story better than anyone. He also always starts off strong and gets viewers hooked which is good for trailers.

Review from BBBuzz.fr 4/5 This fan of the Alien franchise says he liked it. http://www.bbbuzz.fr/2012/05/28/exclu-la-critique-de-bb-prometheus/ Some doubts have, Ridley Scott is the realization of Prometheus. Some plans are almost identical to those of Alien. Much like a trademark. Nowadays, the term prequel is a little scary. In most cases, the distance from the original work. For Prometheus, we all thought directly to Alien, wondering if Ridley Scott was going to meet the challenge of making a prequel credible and in line with the first Alien. So yes! Without spoiling too much, many questions have their answers here, some not. We feel that there is a real willingness to stick to the Prometheus trilogy Alien while leaving room for innovation and opportunity for possible alternative suites. And 3D? I am as you have often read, a great opponent to 3D. IT must be said that unlike Amusement Parks, 3D cinemas has nothing very spectacular. So naturally, when I meet a good 3D rendering, I can not help but mention. So beware, NO, do you expect to see elements out of the screen. To do this, go for the new ad Haribo that works very well. In Prometheus, the 3D, it is mostly a nice depth of field which becomes particularly useful when the beautiful planes in space. 3D makes an impression of immensity accentuated by a heavy music. The cast Well, note the excellent performance of Noomi Rapace who plays Dr. Elizabeth Shaw. Some passages will take you to the guts, you will turn a bit of the eye without ever falling into the gore. Michael Fassbender, as for him, plays the sweet, tender and helpful David. But the most surprising part is that of Charlize Theron. In Prometheus, she plays Meredith Vickers. Her character is largely untapped for my taste and could ultimately be removed. His appearances are without flavors and some 3 pages of dialogue will not remain engraved in our memories. Admit it ... you make fun of the cast. I know what you want to read: The aliens they appear in Prometheus? Well ... I know that ... ... kriiiiiii Aaaaaaaaaaaaah ... Conclusion Big fan of the Alien trilogy, I was not expecting much for the new Ridley Scott film. It seemed difficult to make a film on the front Alien. Yet in the end it was a good surprise in many ways. First of all a very good achievement. Ridley Scott takes what made the success of his film Alien. Whether the planes, the vessel, the atmosphere in the corridors of the ship. Zero doubt that you will find a lot of the same elements in Prometheus Alien. Even in the scenario, Ridley was able to connect a lot of elements between the two films while leaving a loophole for a sequel to Prometheus far from the Alien trilogy. In short, Prometheus is a prequel of quality that is sure to delight fans of Alien and the youngest.

I must agree with Svanya. Lindelof also suggested striking out the original Alien monsters from Spaights script which was a good thing right? Whatever else Lindelof wrote in, RS went along with it. I'm surprised at RS if it's that bad, there again I have had my reservations since catching a glimpse of the tentacled chappy. If that's the big end of level monster then they really have lost it on the imagination front. Kinda reminds of my anticipation for Indy 4 lol. I did pick up a vibe from the Le French reviews that it is visiually stunning, which I like. I will still see this but expectations are manged way down the order now. Shame. Thanks Astroboy

@Xenomorph54 The movie would be confussing because it has Lindelof on board and if you saw Lost you would understand, i stopped watching that when some of his ideas went from that sound like its going to be good, to then not cover it, to then completely change what you expected... i gave a few a miss then started to watch and could not make sence because i missed some... I am not a fan of his work, but he said in his interview that he was a major fan of Ambiguity (hence does not giev direct answers and would rather give us vague or unexplained things for us to make our own minds up, so that no two people get the same idea/answer from the clues given. While at the same time he does not like Prequels because as he put in case of Star Wars you knew that boy grows up to be Vader, as soon as you saw Palpatine most would know he becomes the Emperor.... This is the opposite to what Lindelof is all about, he likes movies with no explanations, open endings where we are second guessing every moment..... only he then pulls of bizare things that make no sence to previous parts of his plots.... So yes while we knew the boy Anakin would become Vader, their was other elements that could have been explored like the Clone Wars, like how and where the Storm Troopers and Tie Fighters came from.... so yes EP 1 was a let down because of Jar Jar and being about a child and also a bit goofy, but Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith was not bad. So Lindelof felt that showing anything to do with the Derelict crashing on LV 426 and why would be too much of a prequel in that as soon as you start to show those things, you know where they end up..... But his argument is not that valid, as with Star Wars we did know that Vader was once Lukes Father, Anakin Walker, we knew more and got more answers and less of a Mystrey with Star Wars Orginal Trilogy. With Alien there was more of a Mystrey sourounding the Derelict, its Cargo and Pilot and who was they, where was they from, why did they get there and where was their intended destination. Many more questions than Star Wars had regarding Anakin. But nope, Lindelof would think it clever to totally tone down Alien links, and then make his own story with various parts that start to not add up and pose more questions than answers..... just like Lost.... Trust me if he did Star Wars EP1, it would have little or nothing to do with Vader/Anakin or Padme... It would be about Jar Jars, Saralecc Pit Monsters, Qui-Gon Jinn and other Jedi with a Cameo from Obi Won.... It would tell how Yoda had a fling with Jabba... who is actually a female (shock horror and used to be known as Jabba the Sl*t) and how Jabba gave birth to the Rancor Monster. C3PO would be revealed to be one of those Salacious creatures who bite his eye out in the one movie, in a suit and thats why his eye was bitten out because it was his Ex Mrs who he ran off with and gave birth to chewbacca..... End of Rant lol......

I really liked this review. If I can give the film a similar interpretation, I think I will like it, even if it is flawed: Hey guys ! I'm the one who wrote this (William Mondello from Paris, France). I was at this press projection thanks to my blog (which you will love the name : http://www.whatthefuckisthat.fr ). Well, first of all, let's say that you definitely identified us LOL The first thing that I want to say to you as one of the first viewer of this film (such a honor, I didn't know that until you said it) is : RELAX. RELAX ! This film is good. Indeed, imperfect, but still, good. There is many thing I want to say about this film, and I'm really happy to discuss with you about it. I think that some of the viewers today were disappointed because they waited too long. Or maybe because they were waiting something else ! Prometheus is not another Alien film. You really need to understand that. That's really different. Of course there are references, monsters, etc. But that's not the point of this film. This film is about the origins of life and its purpose. What for ? Why ? Why life ? Somebody said once that big questions have big answers but that's not the point of the film either. Prometheus is about the frustration of not being able to understand some horrible things or not accepting the truth. I was saying on Twitter (the translation of my tweets was not totally good) that the Ridley Scott film, written by Lindelof (LOST, don't forget LOST !) was about... A love story. Well, not a love story... But a Love History. Have you ever felt in love with someone and not being able to understand why you did have these feelings ? Not being able to understand your own body about that ? Your own emotions ? That's the parabol of this film. And what if I told you that the one you love doesn't love you anymore... What if I told you that the one you love plan to destroy you... What if I told you that the one you love plan to replace you by someone else... Have you ever had these feelings ? THIS is the film is about. But it's going further and further until... a sequel, and now I hope that they will do this. This is really different of Alien. The monsters in the film were almost unnecessary. It's all in the plot. The story. It's all about all of these questions. All about the characters and the meaning of their relationships. I think that the only problems that remain are from the original treatment when this film was still an Alien prequel. I do think that the best thing that they could do is breaking away from Alien. The consequences from this ? The supporting characters are not developed enough, some things are not explained, etc. But the story is strong enough to get over it and enjoy this epic adventure with big Lostian questions. I can't write everything that I found in this movie which is really deep and different. But if you have questions, I would be happy to give you answers. Hope you'll enjoy it.

When asked why he came back to do this movie RS said "it was to answer the question about the big guy in the chair", "who is he, where did he come from", or something of that ilk. If this is the story of those guys (the engineers) then great because that's what he wanted to tell. Still not sure about the tentacle dude lol... I get to see it this weekend so I'll make my mind up then. Cheers.

@Svanya In his deffence.... yes the buck should stop with Ridley as it was Ridley who liked accepted his ideas and got him to more more on the script and go with his ideas, Ridley could have changed them, he could have said to him, i like some of your ideas but i also want to show a Face Hugger etc like Spaits idea... I will watch the movie with open mind, and not judge the none links to Alien, if there is none, but i expect its down to interpretation. So i will see how the movie pans out and i will give credit to Lindelof if it proves i am wrong to doubt it.... But if its like Lost...... but in Space then i will not be impressed.

This last review is the best one in my opinion. It's interesting to see that he says that there are some unexplained things but that's just a minor issue while others said it was a big mess of counfusion, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc... Well, I hope those unexplained things are really a minor problem or maybe a strong point like, for example, the derelict and space jockey from Alien...the best part was that it was unexplained...it made you think and wonder, who was him, who where those eggs, what was his plan... However, it can be a really problem if, for example, they don't explain what shaw's baby is and what are the engineer's plans...that would be a really disapointement...I have waited for those answers for a long time...

"Review from BBBuzz.fr 4/5 This fan of the Alien franchise says he liked it." Read that and it does give us hope.... Also the two people i spoke to who claimed to had seen the movie 2 weeks ago, both said the movie was very good.... they both said it answers some questions but vaguely and i guess it depends on how each person can interpret those clues. They did also say that while they vaguely explain one thing, there are many more questions that become unanswered. The one said he liked it, and its style you can tell was unfluenced by Lindelof due to how Lost was played out, but he was a fan of Lost and so that never effected him. So i guess if Lindelofs style and Lost, well truely bugged you then this movie may have some elements that bug you. Both those people saw some connection with Alien, one said its not a direct prequel and there is a few things you may link to Alien. The other claimed there was a number of references that link to Alien only mostly not direct answers but vague clues or scenes that you can assume would link to Alien, but at the end their was a more clearer link but those should not expect too much as its not like going to show as much of a link as some may have wanted... So i guess its down to interpretation.... like when i see Dead Jockeys, Running Hologram/Ghost Jockeys, when i see sarcophagus with 3 of them having holes near the chest and the Murals... All as from whats seen in the Trailers.... my assumption is that the Xeno was created a long time ago, as some kind of experiment or weapon that got out of controll and nearly wiped them all out.... or that it was something created by one Engineer to use on the others so that he can become God.... Thats my assumption from those scenes..... Those scenes never showed or said that the Xeno killed the Jockeys we see dead, or they caused the holes in the sarcophagus.... Maybe they did, maybe they never, thats just how i added those dots... And alas, thats how i think the Alien links will be, maybe NO DEFINATIVE answers, just scenes and clues that can help us better assume.... for some it may provide the answers in their heads. For others it may not, which would please those who want it all to be a Mystrey.... The only DEFINATIVE answer we get is what race was in the Space Suit, which is the Engineer. But would not be suprised that their is some major twist to this.... Maybe Humans created the Engineers and Xenos, kind of a twist lol.

@Xenomorph54...In my observations usually when movie fans say things like "unexplained things make a film a big mess of confusion" it's a good thing. Especially when it's already been stated that that's what they were going for. Not confusion, I mean, but something in the way of Inception, Donnie Darko, The Fountain, or the end of American Psycho or The Machinist or many, many other great films which simply leave things up to interpretation. Films like that just ask too much of the simple minds of the majority of movie goers. @Arkadine...Thanks for all the hard work!!!!!!!!!

@Xenomorph54 Well the one person i spoke to who claimed he saw the movie 2 weeks ago, did say that regarding this movie and thus nothing to do with Alien (Xeno or Eggs or Face Huggers) there are a number of things regarding Prometheus that are not explained just as we had the Mystrey with Alien and the Derelict/Pilot and Cargo... This movie is going to leave a number of such unexplained things... ..........i assume....... Maybe this means we do not see who was on that Saucer, and only see the Sacrefice Engineer do his part while we see a unexplained Flying Saucer above... Maybe the Ghost Engineers scene we see them running from something, or running after another Engineer and again get no explantion why. The Mural may apear as we have seen and again we get not a single explanation for that..... It would all be left to us to assume.... hence Lindelofs ambiguous approach.... Who knows, guess its not long to find out now...

@Deckard_B26354 I agree many films have greatness because of those things, and Alien and the Space Jockey was one of them.... But i think with Lindelof he goes over the top with it.... its ok having a few things like that, or the ending but the guy has a habbit of doing it a lot and also sometimes the answers he gives to earlier questions do not add up much. Hopefully this movie will be like Total Recall, in that once you saw it twice you figured it out.... lol.

@Arkadine yes very good work... Nice to see some positive things and people who did see enough explanations in their eyes.... I guess its like most stuff like Politics if the general public are happy or satisfied, we dont say or hear much.... if we are not happy then we make it known. So yes in many instances we always hear the negatives more than positives and people would always Tweet and Face Book complaints more than praises. If someone likes something, they may feel satisfied and happy and have nothing to moan/bitch about.... If they are disapointed or not happy, then they will let the world know lol.... I think thats why a higher % of people who never liked the movie would Twitter about it, than the % of those who loved it...
