joeyjoe: You wrote "on the other hand, there are quite a few scenarios where david's wording could be part of character development etc."
Whenever the above topic arises I can't but help think of David saying to Holloway "Perhaps" after Charlie asks David if he can read the glyphs on the walls outside the ampule chamber. David is both brilliant and devious. That in combination with Bishop's "twitchy" remark makes for some interesting interpretation of certain scenes in "Prometheus".

Just to let you know I haven't read anybody else's post to this topic, but I'm gonna just throw this out there.
Let's say you're Ridley Scott, and you are prepping Fassbender to play the part of the 1st series of android that is to appear in the timeline of the Prometheus/Alien franchise.
So now you're Ridley and you're telling him, the David androids are the FIRST series of androids in this universe I created, (and if you guys recall) Ash comes next and Bishop after and so on...and they all become more advanced IN THAT ORDER...
SO: The David series, although portrayed greatly by Fassbender, are to be replaced in the future by Ash and company, so that tells me, the David androids are far from being the perfected android that Weyland had envisioned.
Now to get to my point!!! Where am I going with this?
You're Ridley and you know you have a terrific actor in Fassbender, so you lay down the ground rules (the Davids are the first series of android)
So now you say "Okay, Micheal (Fassbender), here is your line with Charlize (Vickers) she asks you this this and this, and you reply "this" BUT feel free to improvise at any point.
So here comes Fassbender, saying his line, and (remembering that the Davids are the first series, and therefore must be very flawed, he throws the line out there of 36 hours.
Guess what?
It's a hit with the director and therefore stays in the final cut of the movie.
There is your answer to it "not being in the script, but yes it was supposed to be in the movie."
Pure act of improvisation on the part of Michael Fassbender!
Tah da!!!
Dont believe me? Then check out these movie scenes that weren't in the movies script, but turned out to make them world famous for generations to come...

And I believe you guys are missing the fact that this being an error has STILL not been confirmed if you read the quote:
“In candor, I didn’t write that line. I presume it’s an error on the page or on the day. Ask Damon.”
And they are also hinting at the point that the Davids are flawed with this quote:
"Robots have been showing off with this trick as long as there have been robots…”
I STILL don't see anywhere where there is PROOF, that JUST BECAUSE the line wasn't scripted, that it was never meant to be in the movie....

I noticed. I didn't care.
It's a movie. Show me a movie without a ton of mistakes in it and I will scream "bullshit" and find some for you. Every movie has errors. Deal with it.

Mehh! This is NOTHING...
Did anyone notice that Fifield and Milburn were supposed to be (ehem)
S C I E N T I S T S ?
At least David was never directly credited as being a clock.

David was testing Vickers by saying it wrong. I believe he was looking for holes in her mentally to take advantage of later on. There is NO WAY everyone involved including Fassbender would not catch that error. It sounds wrong as soon as you say it.

I think he was building a case in his "mind" for his superiority as compared to his maker. "Big things come from small beginnings".

@Jelbright; Good point, maybe David was just testing with Vickers in that really strange way he plays with all humans.

Anybody ever see the movie "25th Hour" with Edward Norton?
Perhaps that's an error on behalf of the people who made the movie?
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA
Wait a minute........is it?

THere has been a book out for many years titled/"The 36 hour Day',,but it doesn't relate to the movie.
Maybe it is a 36 hour day on the moon that Prometheus is going to land on....and this is David's way of alerting the Engineers(who are monitering the Prometheus) to get ready...
The best answer is the easiest: Ridley allowed the 'flubbed' line to stay in the final cut,,to see if the audience was awake...and see if fans really care about the details, That way Scott knows he in on the right path to provide a high quality storyline ..for the casual and real fans of the Prometheus adventures..
