MemberTrilobiteAug-15-2012 8:59 AMVery often we have seen members, and staff, claim that Prometheus and the Alien franchise (and other franchises that may or may not be part of the same universe) have very few certain facts, and that everything else is open to interpretation and speculation, therefore being ambiguous.
Is this true, or is it just a simple case of reading between the lines and unraveling the puzzles to reveal the facts.
So, in this debate we may or may not dispel the alleged ambiguity of aspects of this universe.
Therefore, I ask the following question(s)...

Q1 - How long does it take for a Chestburster to mature into an adult Alien?
[b]FACT - Less than 1hour.[/b]
Q2 - How, and with what does a Facehugger impregnate its host?
[b]FACT - Upon locating a host the Facehugger coils its long tail, launching itself at the host’s head, gripping with its legs and tightening its tail around the neck; the Facehugger suffocates the host.
Upon rendering them unconscious, the Facehugger extends a proboscis into the host’s throat, supplying breathable air and nutrients while implanting its EMBRYO. Once the embryo is securely attached inside the host’s chest cavity, the Facehugger retracts its proboscis and dies.[/b]
Q3 - What caused the death of the Engineer seen inside the derelict Juggernaut in Alien?
[b]ASCERTAINABLE FACT - Juggernaut in flight over/near LV-426 - Egg hatches, sensing pilot above - Pilot is facehugged -Juggernaut forced to land on LV-426 - Pilot awakens and transmits signal/beacon - Chestburster born.[/b]
Q4 - What is the difference between the domed-head Aliens or Warriors (Alien, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection & AVP ) and the ridge-head Aliens or Drones (Aliens and AVPR).
Q5 - How big is the dead Engineer inside the Derelict seen in Alien?
Q6 - Is the egg-morphing form of Xenomorph reproduction seen in Alien part of the creatures lifecycle?
Once we have, or do not have, an universally accepted answer for the last question(s) (which will be posted underneath the question), we will move onto a new question(s), and so on...
But beware, sometimes there may be trick questions, or will there be?

NOTE - We are all aware of some peoples opinions on the AVP movies, but they will only be cited when needed, the aim of this thread is to get the answers, or the best answers to the questions to compile FAQ's for all the movies, not just Prometheus, hence why this thread is in the Alien Discussions board and not the Prometheus Discussions board.

MemberOvomorphAug-20-2012 7:42 PMSnorky, the reason for stated ambiguity in my series is that it is a statement of fact as to what we don't know as much as what we do know. Stating as you have is linear in a fashion that declares when the facehugging happened despite the fact that this particular point is unknowable from the known information and should be stated as such. That's all I'm saying. I think we need to be vague on that point as it is something we cannot, as yet, and probably never will determine.
So, I'll post it this way:
Juggernaut in flight over/near LV-426 is forced to land on LV-426 - At some point in the flight or upon landing, an egg is disturbed in the Cargo bay, hatching and sensing the pilot above who is then facehugged - Pilot awakens and transmits signal/beacon - Chestburster born.
I just want us to be thoroughly honest about what we know and don't know, that's all. We don't know exactly when the facehugging happened and we ought to state it as such.
As to Q4, it's an interesting issue. I like how Cameron states the difference, but I also think Snorky's right in suggesting thagt it contradicts what we know.
Could it be possible that it simply amounts to genetic variation...ie....that from queen to queen and her offspring, physical variations can occur, such as with skin color, bone structure and physiology in humans?
We already know that a host's species has an affect on the physiology of the resultant adult. It could simply be that variations occur from colony to colony and among individuals based on the queen who laid the egg.

The chain of events listed in the answer for Q3 is simply the best answer we can ascertain when taking what we know as shown in Q2 and applying it to the fate of both the derelict and its pilot.
Adding elements such as "at some point in the flight or upon landing" are not definitive statements, and as such have no place in a answer - else the answer might just as well be "we don't know", which is why I have labelled the answer as an ASCERTAINABLE FACT.
I would have thought that in the exclusion of a true definitive answer to a question such as Q3, the consensus would be that agreement would be made on the best answer from the evidence, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Regards your proposed theory to explain the differences between Warriors and Drones, unfortunately it isn't viable... because the Warrior seen in Alien 3 is from the same source as the Drones in Aliens, the Queen from Aliens.
Here is my theory on the subject, taken from a mythology I am compiling on the creatures...
[i]The infertile Xenomorphs born from an infertile embryo are determined by the hostility of the environment they are born into... If the environment is considered hostile then Warriors are born, but once/if the environment is considered relatively safe then Drones are born.[/i]
The evidence to support this comes from the films...
The only two times we have seen Drones was Hadleys Hope Colony and Gunnison County, whereas the Warriors have been seen aboard the Nostromo, on Fury-161, on the USM Auriga and Bouvet Island. Each time the Warriors were born they were either in a threatening, unfamilar and potentially hostile environment or required to safeguard their future, whereas the two times the Drones have been seen is when the environment would be considered safe and advantageous to them and their propagation.

My assertion that the sj needs a suit to breathe is probably wrong. If you deem it necessary would you please remove all posts that I posted that you feel needs removing in the interest of getting this thread going again. I am seriously considering getting myself a bootleg copy of prometheus so that I can get my facts straight.

MemberChestbursterNov-23-2012 3:09 PMfor q4, aliens colonial marines is going to establish that the drones are the warrior xenos that just straight up attack(tactfully or head on) and the dome-headed aliens are meant to be scouts and protect the hive at all costs. but it does say they are more powerful and faster than drones.

MemberOvomorphJan-21-2013 11:29 PM1. Depends. Ordinarily I'd say 2 hours absolute maximum. Fiorina creature was a lot slower. AvP was moronically fast. Resurrection was apocryphally fast, but all references got cut from the film.
2. Sticks some tubes down the hosts throat.
3. Chestburster.
4. Aside from their appearance - nothing. They're all just adult Aliens.
5. Bigger than the one in Prometheus.
6. Varies from fan to fan.

Because its not shown in the original version of alien and and only in the directors cut and as far as I know the directors cut of alien is not considered canon.
But then I could be wrong.
