I don't know if Prometheus will have a scene that truly tops the Chestburster scene from Alien. Maybe it won't top it, but it may have something similar.....and there was something similar in the leaked trailer before the official trailer, of something bulging out of someone's (Shaw's?) stomach.

If the Dinos were killed off by the Xenos, then why is there no fossils record of them or of Dinos with big holes in the head? Did the space jockeys come back and clean up the evidence (like the cleaner in Le Femme Nikita)? Considering the massive effort it would take to rewrite natural history so it looks like our current understanding, it makes much more sense that the jockeys just gave us a nudge or collected samples. As for the mini mount Rushmore in the ampule room, why is it caucasian and not african or Asian?

Nice work.
Makes me want to try and make a 3D model of a Space Jockey on Metasequoia (to, er, put to use on MMD). Shame I won't be able to rig it, assuming I even manage to make the model.

I'm hoping Prometheus gets rated R. If it's PG-13, then we can expect a lot of things to be cut out.....but of course Twentieth Century Fox will make a pleasant profit off of this movie since a non-R-rating will attract a bigger audience. And I know they can release an R-rated cut to video....
....but, what's the point? Prometheus seems like such a movie that an R-rating fits perfectly.

ReplyCrazyDave55811Prometheus ForumFire & HumanityFeb 26, 2012
Let's see......Prometheus gave mankind fire, and Prometheus was subsequently punished for it (specifically by way of an eagle devouring his liver pretty much forever, as his liver kept growing back every day).
Fire is questionably mankind's first invention.....as some say our first invention was a wheel.
Fire has ass-loads of connotations, both positive & negative, encompassing all sorts of different themes.
...
...well, if we're going by the image that a divine entity gave mankind fire, it could tie in with one of those alleged plot-details, with how the gods share their technology with their creations (us). This technology they share with the crew could be the "fire". This "fire" is sure to be something beyond human control, though, something they are perhaps unworthy of being in possession of, especially if this technology comes from a god-like race.
Oh, and always remember : "Prometheus" is the name of the ship featured in the movie. Despite this movie's title's purpose having a wide variety of undertones, "Prometheus" is the name of a man-made ship.

"Paradise" was, I think, going to be this movie's original name. Also, "Paradise" is another name for Heaven.
It should be interesting to see how this movie plays around with the definition of "paradise". We're literally going to see our makers, but supposedly their society is rather harmful, a "civilization with uncivilized behavior".

ReplyCrazyDave55811Prometheus Forumso weyland becomes a huge companyFeb 26, 2012
Well I heard on either Wikipedia or some wikia source that the Earth, in the Alien franchise's storyline, had become something of a plutocracy, maybe a corporatocracy altogether. There was supposedly some Cold War theme concerning a union rebellion, and I don't know if that rebellion went on to become Weyland-Yutani, or just Weyland, but it was something Sigourney Weaver mentioned in whatever source I looked at (which was weeks ago).
Anyway, cutting to the quick, I think what we'll see in Prometheus may explain why Weyland is so willing to sacrifice their own employees and screw everyone over just to get the specimen they've been after for as long as we can remember. They want the specimen not just because it would make for something revolutionary for their bio-weapons division.....but because it's a godly entity.

WO,
I wouldn't even remotely spend that kind of money. That prop wasn't taken care of in any way. The side mouth appendages are split and broken, there is swirling indents on the left side of the skull, the front lip is torn and pulled up into the face, the left side is scratched like it was laid on its side, the splits where the net was are starting to fray out, and there are slight dents along the split lines. I would maybe give $1,000 for it.

Agreed crazy dave . i also think ridley doesn't like to break away to far from Plausibility. He's stated as much on many occasions, and from a scientific point of view all life in the universe as far as we can tell has a remarkably similar genetic code with a tiny percentage variable which creates all the incredible variety of life we know.
ReplyCrazyDave55811Prometheus ForumSomething InterestingFeb 26, 2012
To be honest, I was looking forward to the Prometheus trailer having the exact same atmosphere and music from the Alien trailer (this one, of course). It would be nice, but times have changed from 1979 to 2012, and movie trailers are templated at this point, and a more unique movie trailer probably wouldn't be "acceptable" to whoever's in charge......but I don't know how that behind-the-scenes political stuff works.
It was a smart move of them to put in that Alien siren noise, though. At least they did that, and I can live with that.
@Xenophobe
Well, we'll know if it changes the genre once we see the movie.....but I do like where this movie is going, and I'm particularly attracted to some parts of the storyline, dealing with the whole "ancient astronauts" theory for one. Human history, despite everything we know, is still full of secrets; religiously-speaking, the Hebrew scriptures have tons of grey spots when detailing humanity's progress, and it's possible that some visions seen by various people could have been extraterrestrial entities (such as Ezekiel's vision). The Nephilim, a race of giants prior to the Flood, could have been extraterrestrials.
I'll stop there. As I said, this stuff fascinates me, hence my attraction to that one part of the storyline.

@alteredstate.
For a while I was considering a Neon Genesis Evangelion comparison based on how it was the Space Jockey that created mankind and the aliens, that because of such, humans and aliens have genetic similarities, yet both species are unable to co-exist......kind of like how, in NGE, the angels and the humans are technically the same on the genetic level, but unable to co-exist as though, despite genetic similarities, they're both different species.
Of course, I should scrap that theory; I still assume all those urns in the Ampule Room each contain the genetic soup for different species, because the Space Jockeys are godly entities able to create entirely different species of flora & fauna altogether, each one not being related whatsoever.
ReplyCrazyDave55811Prometheus ForumWHY DOES EVERYONE THINK THIS IS AN ALIEN MOVIE?Feb 26, 2012
I personally think Prometheus is an Alien movie, but perhaps only spiritually......or whatever more fitting term to describe the subtlety of the similarities. Prometheus will still be its own thing. Hell they're already working on a sequel, or so I heard weeks ago. Point is that Prometheus is sure to have similarities, and just because we are unlikely to see the familiar xenomorphs doesn't always conclude it won't be an Alien movie. Of course, I say that now remembering that Prometheus' storyline is going to touch upon some truly deep sh!t, like humanity's origins and ancient astronauts.
Of course, just 'cause I say it's an Alien movie doesn't mean we will see the familiar xenomorphs; that's the thing. At this point in time the creature we are most likely to see is the Space Jockey. Whatever other creatures we may see in the movie are, as per my guesses, they're probably going to be based on old concepts dating back to when Alien was still in the developing stages.
I do look forward to being proven wrong in June, though.
Replyalteredstate.Prometheus ForumAnswers Right in Front of Us: A Writer's Perspective of PrometheusFeb 26, 2012
Personally for me the order of preference is the order in which they were made. I feel there are definite connections to the alien film that's blatantly obvious in the trailer but it is going to be a completely different story. Its basically a film with origins at it heart the origin of man, the origin of the xeno, and the origin of the space jockey, Which ultimately leads to the origin of the original film, and its subsequent sequels.

I've thought for a while that Prometheus might secretly be a reboot of the Alien franchise. Although I say that while appreciating what the Alien franchise currently is (save for the AVP movies, which were proof that they were better off as comics to begin with, ugh), not to mention that Aliens was my favorite of the four (#4 is Alien 3, #3 is Alien Resurrection, #2 is Alien, and #1 is Aliens......this is even based on the order in which I saw the movies back in 2000).
Until that moment comes when we realize it, though, I don't think Prometheus is a reboot. All we know is that there are "strands of Alien DNA". I think what Sir Ridley meant was that if you've seen the 1979 Alien movie, you'll spot plenty of similarities in Prometheus. Prometheus can still be considered a prequel; it's just that it won't be blatantly obvious, which is a good thing, because subtle prequels are rare. Just because you can't immediately see the consistencies and similarities doesn't mean it isn't a prequel.
As for being unable to get that Alien: Vault book, well, I do have the Alien Legacy DVD set (20th Anniversary, with the chrome-like Alien protruding on the cover; looks like this). I do recall the Alien DVD having some making-of stuff, including plenty of concept art imagery. I'll just look into that stuff for the time being.

Hey Alter...
Yeah, I saw that too. Scott has made everything by hand, after all, it looks better on film than most CGI effects. Big sets, possibly animatronic creatures with little cgi effects for the creatures. There is something great with real life made creatures and sets....of course, it helps the actors pretend to be in the real universe. Glad to see Scott going "Old School" on this film.

Sorry to hear of the blizzard Dave. I am in Tulsa, Oklahoma and we are usually having ice storms now but are having mild weather. Hunker down with some hot chocolate and Alien, that's what I do.
I believe we are going to see the concepts once thought out for Alien in Prometheus but in their essence...the DNA so to speak. Now that Scott has the budget, he can do more and get more of what he wanted in this film then the barriers and walls he had in Alien.
I have distanced Aliens and the rest of the franchise from Alien. I believe Alien really has nothing to do with the sequels that came forth. I am happy that Scott has made Prometheus a new film and has stayed away from the series and kept Alien to live by itself. As a writer, it is what I would do and I am happy that Scott is taking back control of what is rightfully his vision.
Also, being former military and working in the film industry for a short while, most idea's here are going to hit close to the mark in the film. Scott is keeping the film simple, yet fresh... and when I say simple, I mean the scare tactics as was used in Alien, we are going to see in Prometheus.

I do think that the bestiary in Prometheus will consist of appearances that were shown in concept art, at least. Not sure how to say this without not making sense, but perhaps we're going to see some creatures that appear & act as they were originally meant to be, instead of how we already see them (from Alien onward, or rather Aliens onward). The name "Star Beast", a creature speculated to be in Prometheus, was actually going to be the name of what we now know as Alien as of 1979.
If these creatures in Prometheus have names, they may be named directly after H.R. Giger's work, but who knows. If not from his work, then names from back when Alien was in the planning stages.
Alien: Vault, eh?.....one of these times I ought to check Barnes & Noble for it. I'd do it tomorrow but we're experencing a hefty blizzard.

To me when you consider the conditions on a very young planet the almost absence of an ozone layer due to volcanic eruptions etc it stands to reason that creatures evolved with very thick skin and lots of hair ( Dinosaurs woolly mammoths and apes etc) for protection against the sun .
As the earth became more stable life began to emerge with an abundance of plants which release's carbon dioxide and creates a more stable ozone over Millenia therefore the rest of life responds by mutating /evolving to adapt to its new environment.

Hmm....well, not to solicit or anything, but the sound you're looking for is in my video here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83f74GGvbtU
First, view it in HD. Then once the video is finished, assuming you're using Internet Explorer, open the Tools tab, then go to Internet options, click on the Settings button in the Browsing history section, then click on View files.....then try to find the file; it should be an .MP4 file or something, but if you're having trouble finding it, arrange the items to display "Last accessed". Once you locate the file, just copy-paste it to, say, your desktop.
Once you have the file, use some sound-editing program (like WavePad) to acquire the sound.......but as for how to save it as a ringtone, that's beyond me, for I don't have such a cell-phone, and thus I don't have the know-how on how to make ringtones.
Oh, and sorry if the siren/whatever sound isn't accompanied without the wind at the end; I got the sound from one of those many Alien trailers, specifically the one where the egg cracks with light that doesn't flicker as we're familiar with, and the sound plays at the end......
...but it never occurred to me to do something about that windy noise when I was working on my video. This was, I think, back in December. So, basically, sorry if the sound isn't perfect.

Yes snorky . I mean all dna has the capacity to mutate from the effects of radiation from the sun and other environmental conditions. It supports the theory of evolution as well. The question is how did all those amino acids, and carbon compounds, get to be mixed into the primordial soup called life. ?

@ altered state - that makes a lot of sense, especially if one of those vials contained our genetic material as I mentioned early.
To discover that life on Earth was sown by another race would fit within the epic scope idea and pose the question of why?

I think its very possible the vials / cylinders, could well be primordial varying genetic coded material that is the basis for all life on the barren planet called earth. We know the purpose of filming in Iceland is to portray the beginning of time. It makes perfect sense to me that what's been hinted at by ridley, that the basis of life is part of this epic story . Epic in its themes as well as its scope.

I still think that green goo is some sort of primordial soup of sorts for a certain species....even though that's just something I got from one of those synopsis leaks.
And of course we still think that the goo has acidic properties of sorts, now that we've seen the trailer. Is it acidic? Or maybe it's just extremely hot? Whichever it is, we think it could contribute to some mutation of sorts, as hinted in the trailer (again) when you see that one guy leap off a ship, and notice that his face looks burned, hence why it's possible he's a "mutant", or mutating at the moment all the while going bat-sh!t insane towards the other crew-members.
