I get nauseated watching anything in 3D. Which sux, because I feel like I'm missing out on something...... But I do think it's a bit gimmick-y

I didn't say I didn't enjoy ALIEN as a pure genre exercise, an alien organism terrorizing our civilization. In fact, it is the reason I would place ALIEN as my all time favorite film. It is one of the few films in scifi fantasy genre where the filmmakers work full time to create an immersive experience. LORD OF THE RINGS is pretty good but it has that nerdy goofy core with bumbling Hobbits as accidental heroes and unconvincing romance for the older audience. AVATAR is entertaining but essentially a giant animation movie. WAR OF THE WORLDS is full of spectacularly directed sequences (the first introduction of the tripod is pure Spielberg magic) but the alien design is juvenile (another squid/lizard type?). Could you tell me other scifi/fantasy movies as completely gripping & immersive as the original ALIEN?

it would be a waste of a fine talent if he is in it for only a minute Mind you he was only in the Hurt locker, briefly and The Road, both films he totalled about 4 minutes so its possible.

We need to reserve a theater for everyone in this forum. Although what movie theater fits 2500 people? hmmmmm

Their recent works: IMMORTALS, THE GREY, UNDERWORLD AWAKENING, THE IRON LADY, UNDEFEATED, MAN ON A LEDGE. These guys are prolific.

Sometimes they get our movies there in English with Portuguese subtitles. I saw Blindness at the cinema while I was in Fortaleza, and that was in English with subtitles, which I always thought was funny because the director is Brazilian and the original novelist is Portuguese. In that case if you end up stuck there for the opening there's a chance it could be in English, although you might be hard pressed to find it in 3-D. I hope everything works out the way you want it to.

@alteredstate. Oh sure. I understand man. I'm just one of those few. You know what I mean. Critiscism is healthy but I just see the series in an all encompassing light. You know what I mean. It may sound silly but you know i'm different that way. I see the good in things. I love all the films. There like my children. I can't like one more than the other. And oh sure I critique other films but the Alien series is one of the select few that I just can't. To me every film gave us something to appreciate. Whether it was good or bad to other people's eyes, to me they all stood out and they were not at all just crappy. Its hollywood you know what I mean. Nothing is ever "perfect". Yeah there's always going to be a general consensus but thats just a general opinion not really a statement of principal. I know a few Alien fans out there like me who can appreciate all the films but yes i'm different and i'm proud. I fly my freak flag proudly kind sir lol.

@ Ripley clone 8.. lol i get the distinct feeling from your previous threads that when it comes to the alien franchise you dont have a favourite mate lol. But to be frank that's just not how most people respond in life and general, because if we didn't have preference's then there wouldn't be such a thing as good or bad taste, and without critique we couldn't tell shit from Shinola, hence we would have all manner of crap thrown at us and we wouldn't be non the wiser for it lol. Constructive criticism is not only essential, its healthy, and encourages people to do better in my humble opinion . In fairness to you all the films are worthy, and highly watchable but i would be a fool to deny that some are better than others.

Actually Audiomachine is the album name, the band is Dues Ex Machina, one of my faves :-D

AvP:R was OK for something to do Christmas day (which is when it came out here) but it didn't grab me like I hoped it would. The fan-service bits were good though, but I think maybe too much thought went into that kind of stuff rather than a decent story....... But it was good to kill a few hours :-D

Hahaha. The HDD is fine actually, the screen however, looks like it was hit with a ballistic missle. Was a complete accident, but my cat got a stern glaring at I can tell you. Little arsehole just looked at me like "well it isn't MY fault you put it where I wanted to be....." Anyone got any ideas on how to get revenge on a cat? Besides a spray bottle? :-P

I agree. Each one of the soundtracks in the Alien series accented the overall feel of the film. Just like the uniqueness of each film, the scores are just like that. Jerry Goldsmith's was chilling yet beautiful. James Horners score was very militaristic and adventurous. Elliot Goldenthal's score was just so dark and powerful, my GOD. John Frizzell's score was creepy and melodic. To say one is better than the other is a sin. I love them all.

Jerry Goldsmith, period. His score made Alien that much more alien. Many of the following scores quoted Goldsmith's signature ideas. Tommie

There is the possibility that the giant head and the cylinder vials are all from the original derelict its just that the nostromo crew had little time to investigate the entire ship due to the fact kane was in mortal peril so it could well be inside the same vessel. just more wild speculation but a possible theory.

Shilliam Watner here. I have a major in Geology and what you are looking at is 'Pumice Rocks' caused by high explosive volcanic eruptions spewing rock fragments ( pyroclasts) and then created by the ash and gases leaving tuff deposits due to high gaseous pressure and cooling. They are then shaped in their cone style by millions of years of water and wind erosion. We have them here on earth today. I commend Ridley doing his geological homework on this film.

Darn. I was kinda hoping that was a piece written by the guy doing the soundtrack... I really liked the direction it was going in. At least this means there may be a possibility the soundtrack will be reminiscent of the original movie. Which is cool too.

Excellent points, arrgy. Have to agree that Prometheus has to explain how WY knew where to go, as they obviously did. I'm still not convinced they knew exactly what they were going to find, and part of me thinks they may have been after something else entirely.

i would take a wild guess and say it is not the same since its a prequel to alien, the sequel i assume is alien, therefore the sj in that was intact so no its not the same jockey.

Yes Jim Jimmer, if you closely at the spot of light reflecting off the top of the alien's bowed head... you'll see a white glow. Seriously though, despite our poking fun at Kangy's expense, this is exactly what this site is for. So kudos Kangy, for looking so closely at a possibility... and keep up the good work!

Welcome to the site shilliam yes the jockey is smaller i think but since we know little about the prometheus film its hard to say if its the same one as the original alien film i guess time will tell sorry i cant enlighten you anymore maybe other members can.

Hello. This is my first post. I looked at the pic of the dead space jockey on the ground and made a comparison to the one in the chair in the Alien film by looking at google images of the Alien scene where they are around him. In the pic the poster is describing above, this jockey's body and it's head seems smaller compared with the humans inspecting the head where as the jockey was much larger in it's ratio size to humans (Dallas) inspecting him in Alien. It's obvious when we see the head being scanned in the Prometheus trailer that it's smaller. Anyone notice this? Maybe he was a juvenile space jockey. I also zoomed in to 400% looking at the jockey's body on the ground and it's clear his arm has been severed right at the bicep.
