"Magic" was...
One of the most entertaining Books I ever read in my life, years before the film was made...and I became a big fan of William Goldman's storys.
This guy was Stephen King before Stephen King was.
And WOW...Am I ever completely BLOWN away that someone here other than me knew about this wonderfully terrifying film.
I remember actively challenging this movie scene by scene while in the theater watching it the first time to screw it all up for me like almost every film does...and almost certain each time I was going to see the mistakes....
There were none.
It was FLAWLESS !!!
and one of the single most UNDER RATED films in motion picture history !!!

ReplyRHunterPrometheus ForumSJ Ship in Prometheus ≠ SJ Ship in ALIEN Dec 24, 2011
I think with all the Theories floating around that the possible theory of the Zenomorph or alien being a result of a mistake fits as to why the derelict looks different from Alien and Prometheus. I think the Bio and mechanical gap was merged after the Zenomorph was created helping alter the ship and there is a possibility what ever bursted out of the SJ's chest may have helped change the environment into a hive on the derelict in Alien giving it a biomechanical look. The dirilect in Prometheus shows the true SJ's mecha and how it's more mechanical with the aid of genetics but not so fused into one.

I believe its just one. Somehow the last few scenes of what seems to be the last two surviving members, which are ironically female, gives a sense of entrapment.

I think it's a great thread.....in the beginning when i learned that their won't be any xeno's....I was a little disappointed...that was until i delved a little deeper into the ideas that Scott hinted at....it sounds good and I mean it is not a movie about the xeno....it will definitely explain how they came about......but it is more about where WE come from as a species ....and maybe we will see a glimpse of the alien we all familiar with...which won't hurt the movie in my opinion....but either way....the xeno's are not essential to this brand new story.....so i am not gonna really miss them....
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumStand Alone Film: Letting go of the pastDec 24, 2011
....as for Aliens by Cameron.....I think that movie is fantastic...even better than alien in my humble little opinion...and no one needs to agree with me on this! But I do have a great respect for the original ridley masterpiece....it started the whole franchise....I am sure even Ridley would agree that Aliens was a good movie....it's the movies that followed that started to slowly destroy the franchise......not to mention the the stupid avp movies....i kinda view them as instantly enjoyable.....but largely forgettable....I have no intention of seeing any of those movies again....
Great as aliens was.....I think they should have just stopped right there!.....it did explain where the eggs came from...in a very straight forward and plausible kinda way...i did'nt mind that big xeno bitch tho....I thought she was awesome!
But slipping a bit of topic.....Prometheus is about us as the human species and how we came about...the xeno's as i see it....is just a byproduct...
ReplyMr.JPrometheus ForumStand Alone Film: Letting go of the pastDec 24, 2011
I would like to say that It was not my intention to offend with this thread but say what alot of people are feeling. I love Alien and Aliens as any other hardcore fan but I miss the dark mytho's that was created with Alien...as each film was made, each director brought their vision of the creature, which needless to say grew more comic through the series and lost it's luster. As stated, Scott as he said himself is straying away from the series and pretty much sticking to Alien, so Prometheus and Alien will book end each other. This is a new story and we know the last 8 minutes will surely explain Alien and I am sure we all will have our jaws and tongues touching the floor of the theater. The Alien will play a small part in this film , which leads to Alien, which is all about him. So, if you are offended, then please by all means, you have the ability to click in and out of the thread and not read it. Neither am I here to take jabs and start fights over something I have no control over. It's fun being here and discussing ideas and what may or may not happen...we are all here because we are die hard Alien/Scott fans and want to see something dark, sinister and down right frightful happen on that screen, so that when we go home, we will be looking under our beds and in our closets to make sure there is nothing in there to get us...so with that said, I bid you all Adieu and will catch you all later my Alien peeps....peace!

Frantz, if you come up with some remarks that are half way witty and humorous maybe we can have a laugh but if you continue the small minded childish digs than no thanks.
I was simply asking for some respect and you say you don't understand? Are you really that thick? However it does give me a laugh because it is so ironic that the one in here who is constantly calling people childish demonstrates the most child like behavior.
Grow up and then we can talk.

Even though this show turned out to be a repeat I watched it and learned a lot about her.
Her father lost his business and died when she was young and she had it tougher than most people realize. I am really looking forward to seeing her work in this thing and how deep her role is. She is not only pretty but she has talent and can act and looks great in the films promos, her scream is both frightening and sexy at the same time.
One of the things I absolutely LOVED about ALIEN was that the lead actors Weaver and Skerrit were not very well exposed in the film world when Alien came out and they had most of the lines...and I think with this cast it will feel the same way with the banter between the crew like we had in Alien, there will be some of that DNA right there I think...in a very subtle way, that we will ALL love.

ReplyaintnozenoPrometheus ForumHalloway ( possible spoilers )Dec 24, 2011
I agree with most of the idea Frantz, and I've actually had a similar theory in mind myself.
The only thing that I'm having trouble putting together is that the female entering the sickbay has "unattended" wounds on her back, suggesting she has been attacked (possibly sexually- as Scott said the antagonists would do perverse things?), and NOT that her wounds came from being thrown about in a sandstorm, because they would be bandaged. For me, that image is reminiscent of Ripley in Alien 3, when she enters the canteen screaming "It's here, it's HERE!"
I still think the pregnant female in the trailer is NOT Shaw, or in the very least if it is, she survives the "delivery". She is too big of a character to die before the end of the film.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumHalloway ( possible spoilers )Dec 24, 2011
Yes must have been a very bloody delivery :D
but you think she was attacked by who ? the infected halloway ?
ReplyaintnozenoPrometheus ForumHalloway ( possible spoilers )Dec 24, 2011
I don't think Halloway is the only member infected. Maybe the first, but not the only one.
He may be the culprit in that particular case, but I doubt he's the only one. Besides, the bedroom scene may just be to establish the relationship for the audience, and the attack comes later, after Halloway has had time to mutate further?
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumHalloway ( possible spoilers )Dec 24, 2011
surely Halloway is not the mutant with the beard we have saw in two scenes , so yes there must be another one . Anyway the two seems to mutate in a different way .

Very good read. Is it possible the ship Prometheus somehow crashes into the engineer's ship when it takes off? It would make sense that the last two females are spared for gestation, supporting the sexual aspect of the story. Plus the scene with the red lasers seem to be two scenes merged into one. I think Noomi looking at the engineer ship was part of the last ditch effort of the movie. It could also mean someone sabotages the Prometheus ship somehow towards the end of film after the creature is awaken, continuing its mission of infestation. Thanks for sharing.

prometheus inbound...hehe clever. in case you don't know/remember, prometheus bound is the name of a greek tragedy.
edit, my initial delight turned to disappointment with the analysis of the "road" scene, he didn't consider the possibility that it was created upon landing or afterwards.
also, he said the guy who got burned in his helmet is holloway...wrong. that guy didn't have a communications coif. hollyway had his on.
i'm betting that other guy is the only who jumps from above. he has a beard and a mohawk.

I do agree that the cryo-chambers are exactly that in the SJ chair room, as I've mentioned in other threads. I also don't think the character in there is the SJ, but he is the one who might be genetically programmed through DNA mutation to wake them if need be. the mutants would be "driven by instinct", so to speak. It makes sense to me that a perfect alarm clock for a dying advanced race would be to program the "goo" to enhance any victim that may come into contact with it- to revive the SJs, and to give that mutant the strength and intelligence to assure the success in such a mission.
In short- plant a puzzle on many bioformed worlds, and enter some type of suspended animation until those worlds produce beings advanced enough to come looking for their makers. Then leave certain systems in place to ensure that the less advanced race makes it to you, then use that race as a staple to augment your own. In my mind, it's just a more complex way of doing the same procedure that brought a zeno into being in Alien- just on a global scale.
Just a theory I guess. And one hell of a dirty trick for any race in my mind.

Perhaps this has already been speculated upon, but I do not see the "alien" ship being anything other than the "original" derielict from the first film. The reasons for aesthetic differences can be explained away, but the major reason for this assumption is plot. Think about it. What's the connection here? What are we witnessing in the timeline of the ALIEN mythology. Anything else is too problematic, and would create too many variables. Remember the storyline intersects with the original, and I believe this is how...
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumExcellent trailer analysis (possible spoilers)Dec 24, 2011
they say its hit by the magellan/prometheus because there is well visible , on the ground , a wrecked leg of the human ship ...definitely the same one we see in other sequences ( for example the one in which shaw fly with the bag ) ..so we can assume that was one of the pieces falling from the sky .

Dear Neurion; I like your idea about multiplied derelict vehicles it most thought provoking. I will ponder on it some. At this point how eggs and facehuggers=oval cylinders or urns with goo I haven't a clue? I just feel though that the answers should be more horrible than can be fathomed. What could aliens really want from humans? If the aliens created humans and they served aliens...how did that change or are humans part of the plan? I think the answer lies in the question how do you make an idiot laugh on boxing day. You tell him a joke on Christmas Eve!

I found a link to this guy on AVPGalaxy. If you visit his personal page Here on Willow Managerment he is listed as 'Engineer' in Prometheus.
BUT as you have rightly stated the other two actors on castingcallpro have also been listed as the engineers.
I posted this comparison on another thread:
Just a thought..

Above is Matthew Rook as we all know he was penned a while back as the Elder Engineer on Castingcallpro.
Is it just me or are there siliaritiers between the shape of his head and the shape of the "Giant's"?
My assumption is as follows:
The actors on IMDB will play the jockeys when they have been 'de-suited'. And Phill Martin will play the Jockey in his animatronic suit (this matched the leaks we heard about a few months ago).

don't think the far right religious fundamentalists / creationists will be worried.
they will just see this as fiction.
(the same wasy 7th day adventists, so I am told, see Jurassic Park as fiction... because dinsosaurs did not exist...)
anyway, 2001 covered the "alien as the cause of our creation / evolution from the apes" back in the 60s.
personally our DNA is obviously very close to our evolutionary cousins, so do not see how we can entertain the idea that "we are directly breed by aliens".
again 2001 from Arthur C Clarke had a good idea: the monolith does not change our DNA - it "turns on" our human intelligence.
will be fascinating what "creation" story Ridley Scott brings for us.
ReplyAnubisChePrometheus ForumReligion versus evelution and then their is PrometheusDec 24, 2011
It can possibly. The problem with us human beings is that we indulge ourselves so much into our origins that we do not see what lies ahead. I believe this movie will make that point stand out in a great deal. Space is no different than our rapid development in technology. The further we go, the more our humanity is lost. The lines begin to blur between truth and our created realities. There are reasons why we cannot (as of now) travel to such distances in this wide spread universe. As the characters of the movie has found, there are things out there that will challenge our thoughts and perception of our world. The question is, can we understand such a blinding power? They say curiosity kills the cat. And the devil has more lies than a con man on the corners of New York City.

mmmmh...yeah thanks for your input guys/girls....so much to ponder.......but i could not believe the amount of religious controversy that a movie like "the golden compass" generated....such an outcry over...fuck knows?....so I dunno know how some are gonna respond to this?....I suppose people has become more open minded even if it is just about a theory. From a recent interview i read ...Ridley himself seems to embrace the idea of some kinda alien involvement in our evolution....Personally the whole idea makes perfect sense in my mind....evolution on it's own already just seems extremely plausible...so i am quite open to these other possibilities.....their simply is'nt enough hard core facts to support the Creation theory....I suppose that is what faith is all about (blind unsupported believe)....and if god is a space jockey....i can live with that...lol
....tho i am not saying this to piss of any religious types....I'll be happy to hear out and listen to whatever they might wanne add to this discussion? ...After all ...thats what being open minded is all about!
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumReligion versus evelution and then their is PrometheusDec 24, 2011
Ridley said said that an evolution so perfect should have had some help ...the church think that was help from God ( dont think that the church belive in aliens ) ..and the Nasa think was help of some other kind ( maybe alien one )..
To rappresent that thing we have 2 characters in the movie Halloway and Shaw ...one belive in science ..the other in God in a bit naive way... as Scott said they will have both to swallow alot ...
But hey is a sci fi movie huh ....
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumReligion versus evelution and then their is PrometheusDec 24, 2011
true yes...i do recall ridley saying just that....about both Shaw and Halloway getting a big old twist on their believes....hopefully we also get some kinda divine and unsuspected surprise to make us think else..oh this 6 months wait (no it's 5 and a half months people)....it's gonna kill me! ;)
