Lawrence of ArabiaAlien: Covenant Forumwhy did daniels staple his face!!!!

"I will add with all this fear/virus promotional stuff being shown. Why was the the returning crew of Daniels and Lope, 'NOT' extensively scanned for a viral infection? David did tell them that "they would know by now" if infected but it still seems like it's overlooked. Like why cycle/take mother offline, reboot the ship/mother when a VERY important quarantine SHOULD be taking place. Everything just seems a lazy writing excuse to move the plot ahead. They could have been in the med lab scanning everybody and find it in Lope but there's nothing they could do because it's busts out before they can expel him into space. Idk, i agree thy should know Walter is self healing. At this point, it's just beating a dead horse and I apologize "

Like David said, they would have known by then and at the point nobody figured they were infected. It's not like they stuck their faces where they weren't supposed to lol They only know about the spores and those are quick to react as opposed to a facehugger embryo which none but Oram knew about. Yeah, Lope was attacked by a facehugger too but he was incapacitated to provide any details. Besides, after everything they went through they were exhausted and truly believed they had left everything behind them. Mu/Th/Ur had taken a beating too while going closer to the planet and she needed a break to properly assess the damage.

Nobeer you may be 100% right, im just offering a possible explanation with what we have to go with :-)

Remember in Prometheus when Holloway scoffs at David for wearing a suit & helmet when they venture onto LV223 surface.

Charlie Holloway: You don't breathe, remember? So why wear a suit?

David: I was designed like this because you are more comfortable interacting with your own kind. If I didn't wear a suit, it would defeat the purpose.

Perhaps superficial injuries to skin are left to not heal so quickly as to improve the human illusion, whilst grievous injuries like the one he suffered from David heal more rapidly. Having a synthetic with a gaping hole in his neck spurting white fluid would ruin that illusion pretty quick. Injuries to major components that threat his viability may also have rapid healing abilities.

Again, just working with what we have.

Apologises if you did not enjoy my Rock antics. perhaps we should drink to new beginnings.. XD

Lawrence of Arabia - Thanks !!

I will go back and check it again i never caught that bit !!  Maybe something else will click now we have a little more evidence and info to go on.

This is how i imagined we would be looking at A:C but not to worry we have something of more substance now. A great addition ;)

@Lawrence of Arabia

Poor Walter indeed! Well, at least I can console myself over the probable loss of Daniels by looking forward to Walter's sad realization. Should make for some compelling character development. Plus, David keeps getting more interesting by the minute.

Which digital purchase included Advent?? I'll admit, sadly I had to watch a tiny, low quality upload on youtube :(

Lawrence of Arabia - Wow !!

I did not know about this and it fits in really nicely i reckon ;)

We will have to explore all the Sacrificial evidence again now that we know a little more about it and the reasoning behind it. It was obvious they were very religious and now we have some information regarding the sacrifices and beliefs.

"Interesting that David uses the word "God" and saying that they feared their own might. Perhaps this points to an event which changed The Engineers outlook on things regarding the Pathogen. Reluctant to use its power."

Could explain the outbreak on LV-223 and why the ampules and such were there undisturbed for 2000 years.

LOVED Advent so much. ...I've got a sinking feeling Daniels isn't going to make it to Awakening...

Phobos was pretty cool too! Did Daniels, Walter and Tennessee have to stay longer for further tests, because they showed the least amount of fear?

Lawrence of ArabiaAlien: Covenant ForumHow to save the franchise

Seph7 "The problem is, regardless of which movie we got, whether it was the Prometheus follow-up, or the modern Aliens for the Cameron die-hards, these answers were never going to be shoved into one movie.

Focusing the movie on the Engineers alone, as much as many of us would have loved it, would have put the franchise into Cardiac Arrest. Unfortunately, too many want the action of Aliens, which is why RS brought back the Xeno at all. It really is a case of trying to please as many as possible by giving the action fans the Xeno moments, and the exposition fans of Prometheus, a little insight into our so-called ancestors, something I am glad for, however small the nod was. It at least means that we will see more of them in the next film."

This. Ridley has planned for several films so of course he wasn't going to answer everything at once because then it would defeat the purpose and allure of the prequels. A lot of the answers from Prometheus are in the film for those willing to look too.

"Nobody laughed in the (large) audience at the screening I attended. In my opinion, the scene is sheer brilliance. The baby Alien has glistening beauty in the destruction that it creates (hard to disagree with David's description of perfection). The music is rousing. David signals his presence, begging an acknowledgement, echoing the theme of Holloway's sacrifice. The limbs unfold and spread. The little monster, only seconds old, senses its power and superiority. It doesn't see, but it sees. It acknowledges its maker."

Beautifully said hox :-)

daliens While the novel does bring in a lot of much needed insight at times, it isn't canon. For all intents and purposes, David created the Xenomorph from scratch using what the Engineers have already done, the Deacon.

I'm not against gore and I thought Covenant did it well but that's not all Alien should be about and it didn't start that way either. Alien is a deep and layered franchise and should continue as such. I liked what Covenant did in uniting all the films by following similar themes and I look forward to what Ridley has in store next.

"an ancient ceremony involves sacrifice, such cruelty"

Reminds me of when Steve Messing, the guy who did the mural in Prometheus, was describing how the Engineers would sacrifice themselves to create the Deacons to cleanse worlds. :)

sherrisAlien: Covenant ForumCause of Sin/Fall... Females/Lust

Well Bigdave that was an interesting read. I enjoy reading your knowledge ;)

It is all up for debate. You could say that the Engineer in Prometheus thought differently of Shaw and there are several possibilities of why.

It could be that the Engineer was interested in Shaw more than the other crew. But we have to remember there was another female member of the crew in the Pyramid. Did he show anything different towards her ? i never noticed. In the end the  Engineer decided that they all had to die and their species back on Earth.

So if they deemed a female so highly they perhaps would not of killed them so easily. If they needed females in nujmbers, destroying Earth is not the way to go.

So my thoughts are that there are connections and themes running through the prequels and lust and sin are in there no doubt. it is great to see your ideas on the page as i am not very knowledgeable on this part of the puzzle.

Wolves and the lambs is the next one Bigdave. We got all that going on in the various tags myself and ATI and Woolson have done in our "Advent" threads. maybe see u over there for some input when you have time plz ????

I think another reason why Covenant did not perform as well as expected was because it was marketed and tried to be a horror movie.

The thing is, unlike watching Alien for the first time, we know what a xenomorph looks like. They have been seen in five movies now and the Giger design has lost alot of its fear factor because we know it is and how it works.

Covenant tried to combat this by adding the Neomorph but it had barely any screen time and was pretty much a xenomorph lite.

Prometheus has showed us that there are different species in the Alien universe. I would prefer seeing different Giger monstrosities rather than constantly revisiting the xenomoroh

Amazing to think that despite the sceptics, The Queen IS a part of this franchise. Should be an amazing journey towards the next instalment.

Did anyone notice a Facehugger type creature when David is refering to the Animals on Planet 4 ? I thought that was a great touch !!

 EDIT: During the transmission when David says: "I finally had my wolf" we get to see the eggs that get Oram facehugged.

Now Oram said to the crew, something like:"I have to go round up my stray flock" before he falls into Davids trap. I thought that was a nice touch while we are talking about lambs and wolves.

Hello BigDave !

Depictions of Goddesses in Hinduism are generally intended to be interpreted as maternal rather than prurient. I think modern/Western connotations have lead to unexpected interpretations in many cases.

Kama (marital love) and Artha (wealth/prosperity) are among the four permissible goals of life, but excessive attachment to either or to any worldly enjoyment can be a distraction to one's spiritual progress.

I believe ideological commonalities among distant cultures likely has more to do with contact through colonization and trade than ancient astronauts, but to me at least, the theme of female lust leading to mankind's downfall seems endemic to Abrahamic mythology.

I agree that females are important in all cultures. Males are as well. Given that each gender makes up half the population, it's a little difficult for me to imagine a society where either was considered unimportant.

The newer faiths, like Christianity and Islam do seem to have a more male focus, conspicuously excluding female forms of God which is an interesting development. It remains to be seen whether it will stand the test of time.

If you're interested in learning more about Hinduism, the most important starting point is to realize that Hinduism isn't a single religion. It's an umbrella term which encompasses several distinct faiths.

Considering Hinduism a single religion can lead to as much confusion as considering all the Abrahamic faiths and their variants a single religion. This single "Abrahamic Religion" umbrella would need to include every sect of Christianity, Judaism and Islam.

(Even Satanism would need to be included because it uses characters and themes from the Abhrahamic scriptures. It takes place in the "same universe" so to speak. Satanism has a small following and is reactionary and intentionally antithetical to the mainstream Abrahamic faiths, but in this way it is analogous to the Aghoris who are considered to fall under the umbrella of Hinduism. I have nothing against Satanists nor Aghoris...but imagine if CNN did a story on Satanists and implied their beliefs and practices were representative of all people of Abrhamic faiths...it would be bad journalism. Sorry. /Rant.).

Anyhow, Hinduism encompasses Vaishnavism, Shaivism, Shaktism, Smarta and hundreds of varied sects within each of these categories. So good luck in your research :)

BatchpoolAlien: Covenant ForumFox Movie Job News: Listening to fans

Is there really such a big problem in Fox wanting to develop a closer online relationship with fans? In all fairness, no employer expects someone to tick all of the job spec boxes, and by putting out a job offer that can be accessible to all who think they have the right qualities for such a job comes across as just simply the right thing to do. Why should such job offers be limited to a few when the net can be cast out into a big pool of talent and then whittled down to a smaller batch of hopefuls? Besides, job specs do not always reveal what an employer is really looking for. If they want someone with a very specific task in mind then you go headhunting with one bullet at least. The aim here is to take the shotgun approach, and whilst a shotgun may not completely hit the target, it will hit something.

Maybe the expectation of the position is that someone can engage with fans and steer them into the loving arms of Fox, and when possible, guide opinion away from information that appears on various websites that does not entirely align well with any official news Fox may wish to impart. In a way you could view this as an online extension of customer care. When looking at the overall picture, maybe included in the aims and objectives, is the idea of collaborating with fan sites and getting a fuller, and more informed view of what audiences as a whole want to see. That way when the sun sets on a comic con, everyone can look adoringly into each others eyes, and feel contentment in their soul, and have the belief that we all just want to get along and don’t want to see too many ripples in the pond. Now does’nt that sound just jolly great and splendid? Marvellous!

Now there is another way of looking at all this. I would regard this site as my best friend in class. Over time a relationship has developed and I feel at ease getting involved in whatever discussion may appear on the agenda. Suddenly, a new kid appears in class, and it just so happens that their parents own the school. My curiosity demands that I check out the new kid and see what they are like. That is the point when a decision is made. Are they a bully? Are they OK? But they will always be the kid whose parents own the school, and that is the elephant in the room.

Now, I am not the only kid in the class and there are many others besides myself who have a best friend in the same class. Eventually the classroom turns into a safari park full of elephants.  Class will eventually be dismissed, and everyone is out to lunch to digest what is going on. Upon returning to class, things will take their natural course, and that’s when it will be shovels at the ready. Someone is going to find themselves in the prestigious position of standing in front of a multi million dollar shit throwing machine in a white suit. I hope they know a competitively priced, high quality dry cleaners. They are going to need it.

@iraptus

Sure, humans need time to heal but Walter healed within moments from a massive hole in his neck. Him not being able to heal a minor cut on his face is a huge contradiction to the so-called healing ability.  So, what you’re saying is while a small slice to the face may require first aid a massive blunt force puncture to the neck does not? Doesn’t work for me bruh. Your gif sucks btw. You aren’t worthy of gifing the rock on any forum.

@vivisectedengineer

I can’t speak on David because his abilities haven’t been spoken on in either movie. While Walters has. So, I have no way of seeing that David has any sort of healing abilities other than to take your word for it. During the fight, the scene when Walter says, “Much has changed since you were me”. He seems to be in no way referencing anything other than the fact of his ability to self-heal. So, if you’re telling me David can do the same thing, then why would he say that things have changed since David was Walter. Again, I am only speaking of his healing ability, it would have been one thing if after the shutdown blow from David. Walter had simply gotten back up and said that line. Then we would have known that he was referring to the shutdown. But being that we watched him heal and then get right back up, leads the audience to think that it’s his rapid ability to which he is speaking and nothing about some magical ability to defend against an unauthorized shutdown. Leads me to my original question that if his neck was able to heal then why couldn't all of the face wounds heal as well?

@bigdave

Yes I agree that men or women aren’t expected to be master mechanics and know intricate workings of their automobiles. But when you buy them the major features of said automobiles are usually listed or told you by the manufacturer. Such as power windows, gas mileage, engine specs, etc etc.. You would think that something as serious as this would be made known to the crew especially someone like Tennessee who was the fix it guy on the ship. So as to know that in a serious situation you would not have to worry about maintenance to the droid and you can worry about fixing more important issues instead. I do agree that it is just extremely crappy writing unless there is some miracle way that they’re going to fit it into the story.

Also, as I explained before, I agree that they should have incorporated more of the novel into the movie. But it is the job of the director to make the assumption that we have not as an audience read the novels and therefore it is their job to translate it into the films so that we understand.

@capt torgo

I also agree with you that some sort of quarantine or at the very least a thorough check of all crew members including the droid should have been done. Especially since the droid is so very human and in some way, could be a carrier of the spoors. That could have not only saved the crew but it would have also made the face huggers embryo’s inside David obvious. Also, you would think the ship would be able to tell the difference between David and Walter easily. Being that it had its own integrated AI and since they were different androids you would think they would have different serial numbers and things of that nature that an AI would easily pick up on.

hoxAlien: Covenant Forumwhy did daniels staple his face!!!!

@BigDave, why is that bad writing? It seems entirely obvious to me that if skin - even artificial skin - is ripped apart to a great extent, it would need to be held together for the healing process to take place, even if for a short time. There are tyres that can 'self heal' in the event of a puncture (like getting a nail in a chin). Those tyres can't self heal if they get ripped off the wheel and lacerated, however. That would be one mad bit of engineering and is not essential for the operation of a tyre.

In the sci-fi universe, it could well be possible to build self-healing machines that do so autonomously after extreme damage (think the Terminator in T2, for example). But David is not built like that. I would imagine that creating David in such a way that ruptured organs seek out and recombine with distant counterparts would be sub-optimal, a pointless engineering task that would be detrimental to other functions.

I personally think that the sacrifices are religion based. Not scientific. David is following that path. I think the Engineers are extremely religious.

It is hinted that they may of sacrificed many possibly they thought the offerings would justify the worlds they have wiped clean????

"Beings that understood you must give life to both the Wolf and the Lamb. But then they tried to banish the Wolves and undo their creation. So i took their secrets for myself."

So possibly, early thought is who is the Wolf ? So in this context is it the Xeno/Morph they tried to banish. And undo their creation could be to destroy the Pathogen strain responsible.

OR The Engineers 223, are they the wolves and "undo their creation" would be to destroy this faction of Engineers who IMO are enhanced beings, genetically engineered superior Engineers OR Creations of The Engineers who have gone too far ???? Then "undo their creation" would be to wipe out this advanced creation they have made.
