@Kethol, hmm, that link just goes to an extended scene (the solar sail fix where Tennessee gets hit with the rogue transmission) from the movie, not the David's lab exposition.

@IRaptus same here with A:C. We went to it together but I cannot recall the last "theater" movie we saw before that, lol.

Starlogger thanks, Ill check them all out!!

Thanks Kethol, love Adam Savage's set videos. I'm jealous and envious yet I love seeing all the beautiful sets. However, the more I see behind the scenes, the more convinced I am that the EDITING made A:C so much worse than the grand movie it should've been, and that the "SUITS" were greatly involved in trying to trim it into a 2hour time slot for the $$$. A mistake all the way round, and a lesson: Just because you have $$$ doesn't make you worth anything.

Daliens, love your passion for AC and very intriguing perceptions. After watching the film on the interwebs over 20 times all I see of the crew are (one dimensional meat bags) sent to David for his agenda. The hidden message stuff is cool and I kinda dig what you're suggesting. Prometheus is the gem after the first two though, sorry. There is no way Oram is stress tested or that many of the crew are professional soldiers. Oram's symbolism is Ridley's idea that religious people are fools, imo, which pisses off many potential customers. As for this hangar scene and the hydroponic ark lab, they surely played a role to what Walter can do now that's he's left behind and maybe where David got the facehugger embryo gel balls. It's just sad seeing how the direction I liked got dumped along the way but that's life. The hidden treasures may hold up to time but the lack of quality human interaction/narrative like Alien 3 was blessed with, will not get better w time. Maybe Ridley is not all to blame for my disappointment but isn't director where the buck stops. At least we have intelligent dialogue/banter here among us humans, rant over , bowing out.

@IRaptus also "Bloodline", "Ozark" (haven't watched but hear it is superb), "Last Chance U" (a documentary series about kids on the fringe trying to make it into a decent college by playing American football), "Santa Clarita Diet", "Schitt's Creek", etc., are all fantastic series on netflix. They have really upped their game.

@dk my wife and I watch basically ZERO tv. We watch GoT on streaming, and Netflix, or Amazon. We have a bank of concert videos on Blu-ray and DVD that we turn to occasionally and we may every now and then watch HGTV for some Chuck and Joanna Gaines (give it up, Waco!!!), but that's all the "TV" we watch as well. I'm an avid reader, she's not, so that gives us our "special time" in the evenings to decompress together....

Ive found it good for in between movies and next season shows that aren't on Netflix. Shows on there (Australian channel) like The Expanse, Znation, Arrow, The 100 etc are awesome!

Ali, that sounds about right seeing as how the full ship would seem impossible to land on origae6 without breaking up. The hydroponic garden looks dope! May have to read that book/s.

What Happened to Monday looks pretty awesome. I would probably get Netflix if a true Alien spin off like has been discussed on the forum ever came out. Otherwise I cannot justify paying for a channel when I don't watch much TV anyway.

Agreed dk.

I have Netflix, will definitely check this out for Rapace and Defoe!!

Hopefully its available on the Australian channel.

Lawrence of Arabia, That's right, a futuristic Noah's Ark!

The Covenant would have to contain everything that a new Human colony would need or want. That's alot of stuff! The Covenant must have been huge, with multiple warehouses onboard, full of.........stuff!

Like a real Noah's Ark :) Walter in this scene, as well as the novel, whistles to the plants and Mu/Th/Ur has a funny back and forth with him.

The Alien: Covenant Origins summary mentions Hideo Yutani just after the merger and the prequel could stretch back to the Quiet Eye Yutani Corporation technology that intercepted the beloved Dr. Elizabeth Shaw sending a message to Peter Weyland.

And maybe sneak in a mouth cameo from you know who Ati...

There's always just the internet. Download or stream any Netflix original stuff. That's how I saw most of DareDevil season 1 before I reluctantly nabbed someone's free Netflix. It has a lot of crap (lots!) but it has some good things on there from time to time.

I liked the first trailer for this movie more than the action heavy newer trailer. I don't remember seeing netflix attached to the original trailer or I just missed it. It felt like an European trailer vs an American trailer. Looks decent and Rapace is an awesome actress, really love her. She's a pretty huge actress so I assumed she would have lost of work past Prometheus. Defoe is immortal so you can't miss that.

It makes sense to have Hydrophonic gardens and also seed banks on the Covenant, as Origae-6 might not have a wide variety of food-producing plants. The Covenant may even contain multiple animal embryos, such as chickens, cows and sheep so the colonists would have an ongoing supply of meat.

I read that the garden scene was deleted and it is included in the Blue-Ray release.

KetholAlien: Covenant ForumConcept artists Dane Hallett and Matt Hatton were told not to use HR Giger art in Alien Covenant

Fox owns all rights to everything Giger created for the production of Alien. What we are talking about here are things Hatton and Hallett used that were not part of that, that Fox did NOT want to negotiate rights to, like the Giger copy that Hallett made shown above. That was based on a piece of Giger art than had nothing to do with Alien.

"Ridley had a very specific look he wanted and HGR's estate (rightfully) didn't want to suffer any plagiarism. But Plaguerism can be a bit of a blurry line in the art world, so we had to be super careful." - Dane Hallett Facebook

Below are a few other Giger copies that Hatton made for Covenant that he said Giger's estate would not approve.

You speak the truth daliens.

"I hope that after the next movie Covenant will be regarded for what it is, a beautiful, dark and timeless gem."

The movie gets better each time I watch it. I agree on content that Alien: Covenant showed a narrow slice of what's going on. That is the format of Paradise Lost, in medias res or "in the middle of things". I still believe Ridley Scott filmed more in 2016

Each update we get on the Alien: Origins novelization, the more I believe this. The novelization focuses on the crew and the challenges on Earth in launching the Covenant mission.

Ridley Scott mentioned in an interview that the Engineers will be in the Alien: Covenant prequel, see here. I would expect to see the moments after David 8 wiping out the Engineers in the prequel following what Scott mentioned. The updated name of the novelization of the prequel is called Alien: Covenant Origins.

He had similar sets with the Covenant ship, same actors, parallel development of a VR experience...why wouldn't Scott take advantage of having most of the resources in place in 2016 to film the prequel sequences?

Would this explain the seconds we saw Branson in Alien: Covenant?

Branson, James Franco, has a lot larger part in the prequel according to the novelization summary, see below.

The Covenant mission is the most ambitious endeavor in the history of Weyland-Yutani. A ship bound for Origae-6, carrying two thousand colonists beyond the limits of known space, this is make-or-break investment for the corporation—and for the future of all mankind.

Yet there are those who would die to stop the mission. As the colony ship hovers in Earth orbit, several violent events reveal a deadly conspiracy to sabotage the launch. While Captain Jacob Branson and his wife Daniels complete their preparations, security chief Daniel Lopé recruits the final key member of his team. Together they seek to stop the perpetrators before the ship and its passengers can be destroyed.

An original novel by the acclaimed ALAN DEAN FOSTER, author of the groundbreaking Alien novelization, Origins is the official chronicle of the events that led up to Alien: Covenant. It also reveals the world the colonists left behind.

to myself anyway that's what it looked like. they saw the ship but simply thought it was their gods returning to make sure they hadn't trashed the place.

This is confusing.  Didn't all the beings on the planet approach the Juggernaut due to them thinking they are going to see their god like visitors but it turned out to be David?

It might be said that the weaker presence of these horror/sex/creation/agression themes in Prometheus is (partly) behind the disappointment expressed by so many fans. Other reasons given, such as the sketchy characterisation, don't seem so convincing to me. The characters in Alien are sketches, although much better sketches....
