The scene extension comes before Burke and Ripley are talking. The scene that was left in the movie is a shortened version of the scene I am talking about. You get the ending of the scene in the original cut. There is about a minute or so of Ripley checking the computer records then going to Burke and starting a conversation about it before the original scene comes in. The original scene has Burke starting off saying - "Look those things are worth millions to the bio weapons division." In the deleted cut, Ripley begins talking with him and catches him lying/not telling the whole truth and then Burke starts explaining himself. This is where the original scene comes in. I have 3 different VHS release copies, 4 DVD copies and the Blu Rays. None of them have this scene. I wish James Cameron were here!

Ugh! Every time I remind myself of this I think more and more that I am insane. I have checked 3 different versions of the script and none of them have this scene in them.

i think i like the first lifecycle, it adds to the mystery of the creature. BUT i must say, that all three of them are creative and horrific.

When James cameron did ALIENS, he probably scrapped ideas developed by Ridley Scott & his team. In ALIEN there is no evidence of a Queen. And as one of the types you suggested, this organism is asexual, an organism that could survive in the most hostile environment must be able to perpetuate without a female partner. Some worm species are asexual and could reproduce without a female.

let's not forget that in the original version of ALIEN, the idea of the human morphing into alien egg was not seen but cut out. The Queen lays egg life cycle is not exactly mentiond in the movies but in the Dark Horse comics it says that one queen lays around 50 to 100 eggs where only one will be the next queen. The so-called Princess life-cycle sounds like you took it from Aliens VS Predator: Reqiem which is non-canon anyway.

dark horse comics are not canon, the AVPR Princess theory is (unfortunately for some) canon until stated otherwise, because the films are canon

Maybe 1 and 2 could go hand in hand possibly. The possibility is that maybe that is why that reporduction cycle is so complex in your first example, because it is meant to produce a queen.....since there is not a functioning nest or queen at the present time. Then once the queen hatches she lays eggs for the hosts and boom thats where we get to Aliens. Just a thought. I dont like example 3 either.

Here's a few lines discussing this topic between Ripley and Burke from Aliens. Burke: [Talking about the facehuggers] Look, those two specimens are worth millions to the bio-weapons division. Now, if you're smart, we can both come out of it as heroes and we'll be set up for life. Ripley: You're crazy Burke, you know that? You really think that you can get a dangerous organism like that past ICC quarantine? Burke: How can they impound it if they don't know about it? Ripley: Oh they *will* know about it, Burke. From me. Just like they'll know that you were responsible for the deaths if 158 colonists here. Burke: Wait a second... Ripley: You sent them to that ship. Burke: You're wrong. Ripley: I just checked the colony log. Dated 0-6-1-2-7-9, signed Burke, Carter J. You sent them out there and you didn't even warn them. Why didn't you warn them, Burke? Burke: Okay, look. What if that ship didn't even exist, huh? Did you ever think about that? I didn't know! So now, if I went in and made a major security issue out of it, everybody steps in. Administration steps in, and there are no exclusive rights for anybody; nobody wins. So I made a decision and it was... wrong. It was a bad call, Ripley, it was a bad call. Ripley: Bad call? [Ripley grabs Burke by his vest, shoves him against a wall] Ripley: These people are *dead *,Burke! Don't you have any idea what you have done here? Well, I'm gonna make sure they nail you right to the wall for this! You're not gonna sleaze your way out of this one! Right to the wall! [Ripley lets go of Burke] Burke: Ripley...! You know, I... I expected more from you. I thought you'd be smarter than this. Ripley: I'm happy to disappoint you.

I could see where someone could argue that Burke had no reason to know anything about the history of LV-426. The problem is still that 57 year gap. What were the Weyland people doing shortly after they lost contact with the Nostromo/Ash via Mother? They HAD to know something major was on LV-426. I dunno, just strikes me as weird.

MUTHURAlien Movies ForumWeyland-Yutani: Building Better Worlds?
My guess is this; With events in Prometheus, Weyland know about the planetoid (assuming Prometheus is LV-426)...but perhaps, due to the mission failing, some top brass removed the location from company co-ordinates, but programmed future ships to have a protocol in their system in the unlikely chance a sign from the Prometheus crew/mission shows up. After 30 years, most people except the top-of-the-top even have the remotest idea that this even exists (leading to disbelieve in Ripley's hearing in Aliens). As for the droids and their fascination with the creatures...my theory puts it that they are all programmed in anatomy and serve as science officers with sub-routines that essentially makes them obsessive over ANY new species that is discovered, with guideliness to perhaps see if it can be artificially created, used in bio-warfare (which I think might be a huge part of alien mythos not yet explored in official canon). This would explain both Ash and Bishop's odd behaviour with regards to the face hugger specimen, and of course the Xenomorph itself. In terms of the planet itself, I would assume, since by this point 80+ years have happened since Prometheus, that the terraforming on this planet is just simple human expansion. When they find Ripley, Burke becomes curious to the truth and in turn sends out the Jorden family to the co-ordinates of the derelict and viola...Aliens take place. As for the SOS signal, my guess would be the same as others and putting that the signal either died or its source was destroyed by weather conditions - which would put the incoming colonists at a loss for not having that warning.

1. habitable super-earths are rare, especially if you want them to be close enough to another colony or on a trade route. 2. the sicker explanation is that they were hoping to get a bunch of Alien-Aliens by colonizing the planet and then sending people to get infected.

i think the time-dilation effects of near light travel are perhaps part of the story. ultimately if prometheus is a prequel and it explains why the space jockey ship is derelict on LV-426; then i would expect older, slower technologies (nostrum) will find the remains on LV-426 much much later. I guess James Camerons "aliens" is a bit of a discontinuity in the mythos especially with regards to time travel as it thinks time in the universe works like star-wars... "space opera"? I guess prometheus travels near-light speed; causes the derelict ship; 100's or 1000's of years later the nostrum finds it. all weyland knows is that it sent the prometheus to LV-426...

A "space-suit"? A space-suit doesn't (need to) have "bones" on it. The pilot's chest is clearly fossilized bone, as per the original declaration in "Alien". Scott is probably playing games from lack of a better scenario, hoping to "detach" the engineer-entities from the whole of the Derelict. If the scenario calls for a separation between different beings and the Derelict, Giger is likely not going to be happy with the development, because it doesn't make sense.

It's also possible that the SpaceJockey presence on the planetoid is to terraform it. Once the Space Croissant, as Ridley calls it, crashes, perhaps the SpaceJockey terraforming stops and the planetoid returns to its more natural state between films.

Actually, the dude with the thing in his mouth does look like the "SJ" from the clip. If you notice, it also looks like the drawing has the body of the "victim" as non-human. This, of course, is a n old concept drawing from Giger, so take all of this with a grain of salt (Who says the one on the left is the "SJ" anyway?). Also, it is a bit rude to call people idiots, specially if you sound like one yourself.

@Jbsmit3 You wrote to starlog mag and they replied to you it was a cave they lowered Kane into? Hmmm....like you said attention to detail and that it was obvious the eggs were in a holding bay in the derelict ship. I think we have caught some glimses in the trailers of the SJ, I dont think they are snake-like creatures. Your take on how the queen alien comes to be is interesting.

GuestPrometheus ForumDerelict Ship Full Tour
My apologies if I created any confusion in previous messaging. 1. I wrote to Starlog magazine after release of Aliens to inquire as to who would have the creative imagination to direct an Alien prequel that would be about the SJ race and how they came into contact with the Alien and what events led up to the crash of their ship. I imagined a movie that would be so ALIEN as to have no humans at all. 2. Someone on this site, in another string of conversation, commented that the egg chamber was not a part of the SJ derelict. That person said it must have been a cave beneath the planet surface. That person obviously has not watched Alien as many times as I have because the entry canal. Leads upwards and the SJ chair/cannon is located in the dome-like top of the ship. The egg chamber ergo is a cargo hold and is most definitely a part of the ship. 3. Pertaining back to #1. Ridley Scott himself has said that no one has ever questioned where SJ came from which is why he chose to go back where all other films had gone forward (most of them badly at that)! I had questioned the SJ origins over 20 years ago so the question was indeed posed. 4. I imagined the SJ race to be utterly "unhuman" in form based upon the shape of the ships corridors. I believed they must have snake like bodies based upon the shapeof the corridors as well as the shape of the feet of his chair. Obviously Ridley has another vision as the SJ in the trailer looks quite humanoid (disappointing to me). I hope he explains the odd shape of the SJ ships corridors since they do not appear to be designed for bi-ped beings. 5. I wrote a screenplay several years ago (didn't get anywhere as far as publication) which details the Alien life cycle and how a hive is created. In my vision I imagined the first victim of an egg would give birth to a warrior Alien, much like the silvery black Alien in the original film. Kane bumped a few eggs when in that cargo chamber but one in particular hatched. It must have been in the genetic make up to hatch a warrior first. The warrior creates the hive by genetically altering the first victim to become a queen egg. Next host gives birth to queen. Queen has two protectors, two warriors. In my minds eye I saw the two warriors attach to the queen much like an additional left/right appendage. This "masking" was for queen protection in case of superior life form attack on queen. I could just see her raise her arms and the warriors unfold from her body and attack to protect their mother/mate. 6. I have always wished we could explore the SJ ship more fully. I hope Ridley gives us that opportunity and that he brings the mystery/suspense/awe that we all felt in Alien when the derelict ship was found. From preview it appears that on one planet a chamber is found that leads Prometheus to another world where SJ's race is found. It appears that something has happened to cause a SJ ship to crash (you see Prometheus crew running to avoid the crashing ship) so this is the ship I believe we see them entering. Perhaps they find something (ALIEN) has caused the pilot to crash? Perhaps this event is what triggers another SJ to go investigate? Just my thoughts.......

In the original script/movie novel, the derelict is found near an egg silo and the eggs are not found within the derelict. From memory I think the creew find 1 empty egg and refer to it as a large vase. A hole is found at the base of the derelict and Cane is lowered down into the egg silo. This would basically mean that the Silo was already on the Planetoid and the derelict either landed near or on top of it, or crash landed there. A budget shortfall meant that Ridley had to cut and simplify the story as we see it now in Alien. I have a feeling that Ridley may want to work this back into the story in Prometheus. Perhaps the SJ simply found the egg silo on the planet and are not the creaters at all....

I am currently ready Alan Dean Foster's novelization and literally read last night the reference to the egg cargo chamber as being a cave that extends beneath the derelict. That's where that idea comes from. I'm enjoying the novel, but that concept doesn't seem to jive with the visuals in the film and I tend to lean toward the film for validation in that regard. In regards to the shot with the star map, if you look it over closely, you can see that it's the chamber with the SpaceJockey's chair. The chair hasn't risen from the floor just yet. The circular pattern on the floor, I believe, bares that out.

Sorry if I caused any confusion. Ridley had stated that he didn't know why no one had ever questioned where SJ came from, how he came to be in a crashed ship on LV 426 (as we now refer to it since Aliens). I posed these questions after the release of Aliens when writing to Starlog magazine. It was a writer in this forum who said the eggs were in a cave beneath the derelict.

I believe the "blue mist" covering the eggs was a warning device to alert the crew if any of the cargo was compromised. There was no blue mist in Aliens which suggests it was a mechanism indigenous to SJ's ship. I could have spent the entire first hour of Alien exploring more of SJ's ship!

jbsmit3@gmail.comPrometheus ForumDerelict Ship Full Tour
I also imagined SJ's species to be more snake like in body appearance based upon the shape of the ships corridors as well as the shape of the feet of his chair. I am disappointed to think Ridley has made SJ to be a biped! (if indeed the bluish skinned biped being in the preview is SJ and not the infected crew member of Prometheus).

I'm sure the tie in will be wonderful considering Ridley is directing the story. Everything after Aliens has been nothing but crap and an embarrassment to the Alien storyline. I wrote a screenplay to tie all elements prior to Alien with Aliens. I called it Infestation. Obviously it got nowhere but I still imagine that the Alien originated on another world and that SJ, an explorer, came in contact with the species at some point in his travels. His demise was as that of the crew of Nostromo. He didn't know what he had found. He purposely crashed his ship, set a warning beacon, and died when he "gave birth".

His crew set the "blue mist" containment field. My mind goes crazy in speculation! I thought my story would have intrigued fans. I gave definition to the Alien life cycle as the first born would be a warrior. The warrior took its first victim to be cultivated into a queen bearing egg. The next victim would be host for queen. The queen lays eggs and all following victims were hosts for the hive, save a few that would be needed for sustenance. The queen has two warriors to protect her and the hive. The warriors attach themselves to the queen to stay well hidden. Under threat the queen lifts her arms and the warriors detach, like massive appendages, to surprise and attack invaders.

Warriors look like the original Alien. It seems that Cameron turned the Aliens into something "weak" and their heads were totally wrong. While the Alien squealed in a most ALIEN manner, Cameron's Aliens sounded like a herd of elephants. After that, in all other movies, the Alien was just a big slimy beast. The original Alien, with his silvery black appearance, will be the ONLY Alien in my book. Nothing compares! Ash said it all when he refered to it as the perfect organism. Giger had it right... perfect!

I hope we do get some answers to how those eggs came to be in the derelict ship. But one thing I dont understand is how did the eggs got placed in the cargo bay with out hatching? They are designed to facehug any living thing that comes near it. I agree the blue mist was specifically desinged for the holding of the eggs to keep them from releasing a face hugger. Otherwise Kan would have been attacked once he first set foot on that platform. As we all know it wasnt until he fell through the blue mist that he was attacked.

I think the line "I was so wrong" is simply about humans perceptions on how life came to exist on Earth or indeed the galaxy, as it's assumed that life just evolves etc but the thought that some civilization is going around creating planets and species would lead to that view being "So wrong". . .
