I did see the old Alien Trailer but it has been a long long time. I'll have to rewatch it. But Ridley did make both movies so it would kind of go hand in hand with his technique per say.

In the ALIEN universe, it is possible that Ash and Bishop are not required to eat “nomal” food because of their android make-up. However, Bishop wasn’t compelled or ordered to pass as a human, therefore, he wouldn’t HAVE to eat…to sell the charade that Ash acting out. Although, I loved it when he licked his own synthetic blood from his finger tip, after accidently poking his finger…just like a human might.
However, it is possible that these androids do require at least some type of food (even if synthetic), in order to sustain their biological components…if they truly have any. I think of the BLADE RUNNER androids/replicants, who seem to share much more in common with human physiology.
Over the years…I too noticed Ash reaching for the container of milky looking fluid. If nothing else…it’s kind of a cool narrative device or gag. I figure things will only get more “green,” so maybe it’s “Silk”…maybe androids run on soy milk…haha.

Your post conjures up images for me of Androids being spoon-fed "Gerbers" Baby Food and dreaming of electric sheep.
And of Parker drinking coffee !

With respect to question # 6... I'm guessing the laser mist has two functions. First, it serves as a "trip alarm"- it reacts when broken to warn you. For example, notice how the eggs have these tendrils protruding from them (you see this more clearly in ALIENS actually) and maybe this is how they sense a potential host in their vicinity- the unfortunate organism steps on one of those tendrils and stimulates the source egg to begin hatching. So the laser beam helps ensure a certain distance is maintained so that you don't "step in sh*t" so to speak. =)
Second, the laser seems to keep the eggs alive (maybe by keeping them in a hybernetic state to slow down their metabolism or by maintaining a certain environmental condition, i.e. temperature). As for why only one row was lit- well, the derelict was there for a long time- long enough for the Space Jockey to fossilize. By the time the Nostromo crew arrived, the ship was probably very low on power and what remained was sufficient to power only one row of eggs (and the warning signal). You'll notice the eggs in the rows without the laser mist also look kind of dead/inert, which (in my mind) reinforces the possibility that the mist helps keep them alive somehow. A third possibility is that the mist keeps them "asleep"- to prevent them from accidentally hatching and thus infecting the crew. Thoughts?

First, of course Ash new about the Alien. Look at the scene where Dallas is informing the crew of why they were awakened. Watch Ash and Ash only, Ian Holm is standing in the background not saying a thing and looking like he is unconcerned, and that he knows what is up. Great acting by Ian. I bet Scott told Ian that he is the only crew member who knows what is about to happen.
Second, in the extended versions of Alien especially with the scenes deleted where they were going to blow the Alien out of the airlock Ripley makes reference to the fact that Ash is trying to protect it.
What is interesting to me, is we see the clips of the ship in the Prometheus trailer looking very similar to the ship on LV-426. Anyone remember the dialogue with Dallas and Ash and Dallas is out of the ship. Dallas says to Ash if he is "getting this" meaning the view of the ship, Ash looks at his screen.....pauses for a bit...and says "yes I have never seen anything like it."
Truth or lie? As a robot, does Ash know, seeing the ship have information stored in his data banks about what ever is going to happen in Prometheus?

I think around 3 or 2 months before cinematic release, we might get a 2+ minutes trailer
with more image and also dialogs.
But i hope that they won't leak too much of the Space Jockeys and the creature
that might be the protoform of the Xenomorph/alien.
Otherwise the surprise effect will be gone.
I rather want to know what exactly is going on in the movie
instead of a trailer that leaks too many great moments of the movie.
ReplyCBT1979Prometheus ForumThe Next TrailerJan 9, 2012
BTW, i have watched the teaser of ALIEN again, and when the egg splitted open with the light coming through, it has exactly the creepy sound effect like it has been used frequently in the PROMETHEUS teaser trailer (starting with the scene where one crew member's helmet is somewhat having a acid reaction).
So not only is the lettering sequence done like in ALIEN and ALIEN3 but also that creepy sound effect has been taken over.
ReplyManndroidPrometheus ForumAliens: Colonial MarinesJan 9, 2012
Looking into the gameplay model a bit more, I'm pleased by the implications of one aspect - being this:
The player controls one marine at a time, issues orders to the others using context-sensitive commands, and may switch between characters at any time.[8] The player will also occasionally be required to control a particular location, using tactical positioning and turrets to fend off attacks.[8] Aliens: Colonial Marines will have no HUD to provide the player with onscreen information.
This sounds like a Rainbow Six approach to tactical gameplay - that is, strategizing your placement. This means that it's not a standard 'reflex' shooter, which is good, because Aliens doesn't translate to a run-and-gun affair. You can't sprint to cover to outflank something which climbs on ceilings and relies on 'bust out' spawns.
I think what I really like about this approach, is how much is hearkens to Space Hulk - a game that always felt like Aliens with a Warhammer 40,000 veneer. In that game, you could directly control every unit under your command, but you spent much of the time tactically positioning each member in the squad to keep from being flanked or ambushed. The only way for what Gearbox is describing to work is to make gameplay depend on multiple pathways, and managing vulnerabilities in your fields of fire. A standard FPS cannot function in this way, and nor can a Tactical Shooter function any other.
I think, in the very least, you'll be getting a game that is trying to be different than the mainstream, which is something to support.
ReplyshardyPrometheus ForumSurprising "story line"Jan 9, 2012
i've read a few articles online that this time around, Ridley Scott says the alien
entities in this new film are "more sexual in nature, and much darker than before"
given that particular revelation from Scott himself,
and if there is in fact "rape" in this film, i hope Scott truly pushes the envelope,
and keeps in line with the "male rape" that O'Bannon referred to in ALIEN (1979)
as odd and insensitive as this sounds,
the sight / sounds of a female being sexually violated on film is not as uncomfortable
to the majority of folks as it would be if a male were to be forced into the same "rape"
scenario, or a male giving birth as well
i read one possible "leaked" script for PROMETHEUS in which the character
Holloway was taken alone, and "subjected to horrifying tests by the Engineers",
the first thing that came to my mind was some kind of forced sexual "tests" in
the hopes of reproduction
can't say for certain, since the script i read was not official,
so whether or not the victims in this new film are male or female in
regards to the concept that Scott eluded to in his own mysterious way
in any case, it will surely be something IF Scott continues on O'Bannon's
desire to target the male movie going audience, and make them as uncomfortable
as possible the way ALIEN did back in 1979
time will tell.....

There are much easier ways to do that without utilizing hostile parasitic complex organisms. Tweak the Ozone and the right radiation renders males sterile. Viral and bacterial infections can be engineered specific to it's selected host organism. Less encroaching on an indigenous biosphere.
ReplyGigeresquePrometheus ForumHumans created specifically to later be 'bred' with the Aliens? Jan 9, 2012
As someone said before and IMO, the Egyptian goddess Nut is the key to what the ship is. A birth machine to fertilize planets with life. For what ultimate purpose or how...who knows? HR's image was influenced by Egyptian murals and I think that is why he is painting murals for Prometheus. He is creating the mythological murals for Ridley like he did in this image. I think maybe this movie will have very little to do with the Xenos and more to do with the birthing machine that this derelict ship could be. That's why I also think there are lots of differents ships and the one we see in Prometheus may not be the same one as in Alien. Many different ships with different species to seed planets? Who knows...just a theory. I think this image might be very important though

The facehugger is a biological cryo-embryonic storage device with a dormant engineer egg that requires a host life to revive the dieing species. The derelicts was crashed in an attempt to prevent resulting offspring from getting to the SJ home world. The message was a warning to their own kind to stay away this planet is a trap. Just a Thought!

Found these on some message board and thought they might be interesting to you people who have seen this film....I still have not....
--------------------------------
So I just watched this movie in its entirety (bits and pieces before), and to me, the movie left way more questions (not the obvious ones) that I would like to see if someone can enlighten me on...for those who have seen it.
-when the first crew was on the planet, why did the beings send out that vortex to kill those three crew members? If according to Gary Sinise's character, "they're us. we're them", they wouldn't want to kill their own creations...especially when we weren't trying to kill them.
-what were the Aliens doing on Mars when their real home was apparently in the Andromeda galaxy? (every spaceship but one that left Mars post asteriod went back to Andromeda, only one stayed behind and seeded earth)
-That said, why did the beings stay on Mars when it was apparent that Earth was more inhabitable? Why didn't they all just up and move over to Earth?
-why didn't they live on earth just like they did on Mars when it had water?
-why didn't they come to earth instead of making us come to them/why didn't they only invite the astronauts to come with them?
-who else here would have accepted their invitation to go with them? I know damn well I would have
and then I found some guy answered them But I have no clue if he was right or not, but you people "prolly" do...
* they got all killed because they did not provide the correct lock combination of the human dna, the aliens (us in future) were afraid that some other species other than human will use this spaceship for the wrong ways.
* their real home was on Mars, they escaped to Andromeda.
* Apparently that part I don't know I guess they were happy enough at Mars and Earth was too unstable of a planet for them. But yeah that part gets me too
* because they left for Andromeda long time ago, millions of years ago...that was just a hologram. And we dont know what happened to them in Andromeda
* I probably would have accepted it, but that depends...if I was married and had kids I would not have accepted the invitation, if I had nothing going for me I would accept the invitation.

This movie is nowhere near as bad as people here are making it out to be. It is not a great film but very far away from a bad film. It is a slow moving and somewhat melodramatic film. I do not believe it has any real inspiration on Prometheus but just watch it and make up your own mind about it.

If I had to guess, I'd say he's (Patrick Wilson) crouching on the floor next to the bald guy in the wheelchair when Shaw(?) collapses in the doorway. Which would ruin the neat theory I had in my head about the jockey suits in this film being cocoons for weird baldos who eventually morph into the being(s) the big head is meant to represent.
