thanks everyone for your extra info to my post. Thanks Spartacus - yes, a major source was the Cartwright/Scott commentary and others. And again, this interpretation helps explain why Ripley stripped off at the end - but this theme was dropped by the studio as RS ran out of money and there were disagreements over the ending (e.g. RS wanted the Alien to win). My main point to this post was I expect this sexual theme to be a part of Prometheus - RS will get to do the interpretation he wanted to make originally.

With Giger and Scott being the principles involved here, i would not expect anything else.

This is a no brainer. PG-13. It's all about the money. Wider audience range, more guaranteed bucks...

I would think it probably depends more on language usage over violence and gore with a movie like [i]Prometheus[/i]. The requirement for an R-rating is if it uses the F-bomb 1 to 4 times as an expletive. If it's used in a sexual context, it's only allowed about once maybe twice. This is mainly at the judgement on the MPAA; they may be willing to make some exceptions here and there.

to me it is NOT a no brainer because of this... If i am one of FOX's favorite demographic, that is a 13-19 year old teen angst filled sci-fi nerdy type male... Am I more drawn and attracted to a film that is 14 and over or one that is PG13??? Think about it... Cause a PG13 rating does in no way ensure more people are going to the theater to see your movie...but a 14+ rating almost always does!!!

the only good thing that can come out of it being pg-13 is that it will introduce the story and movies to a new younger audience. but besides that it would probably be better if they gave it the Right of way. did you get it? did you get it? i did like a thing with the R lol i am stupid :)

Everything I've read says 30 to 100 years before the original Alien.

The lasers are most likely 3d imagining/mapping tools utilized by the exposition to map the interior of the vessel they are investigating. As for the egg chamber from Alien, I seem to remember Kane discovering entrance through a hole burned into the floor of the SJ navigation room, just adjacent to the fossilized SJ. There are so many ways this can go. Ridley's imagination will not be limited by technology, $, nor the studio. We are in for a treat.

I think what it is, is the same thing, that the MUD on Theron's back is part of. When I looked at the trailer in slo mo, particularly THAT scene where something hit's a female crew members space helmet AND she gets sucked off screen stage right...what I saw when I slowed it down was there was No Bigger Object hitting her helmet, but rather thousands of these little muddy dark particles that seem alive in and of themselves. I believe There's more going on there than any of us know yet.

Are you trying to figure out how many years exactly before the events of the Nostromo occur, that all this happens?

ooohhh...right minimum 60 yrs that we know of as you said but it is probabaly a bit longer Also, From the scene in the imaginary laser created garden with Burke on the extended version of "Aliens" and from their conversation about her daughter we can calculate exactly how old Ripley is...during those events So it's clear that when these events of the Prometheus are occurring, Ripley has not been born yet!

I'm new here so please excuse me if this has been discussed. While looking at the trailer, I noticed a "being" walking towards the Space Jockey chair. If you look closely, you can see the chair rising up into position and the "person" looking at it and moving toward it. Is this a Human Being or a Space Jockey? If it's Human, than the dimensions of the chair are proportionally too small. If it's a Space Jockey without its "Bio Suit," than it looks remarkably Human and explains the fact that we are indeed their children. Would appreciate comments. Thanks.

hello RSAND ...yes we discussed it ..of course we cant be sure of what its .. someone think is one of the crew mutating ( HALLOWAY maybe ?) someone else that is a SJ but others think they will not be shown in a trailer can be also an android ... to me is one of that two actors : Embree or Marshall green

To me it's the same principle with the same type chair so it's part of the "Engineer" races' technology and therefore doesn't necessarily even have to be the exact same chair we saw in Alien. It could be a completely different place this chair is located or on a completely different ship...we simply do not know...Yet !!!

The cockpit is the same, I'm guessing a SJ sits in it then the Bio-Mech suit builds overtop of it. Would make for a very cool 'transformation' sequence

What is confusing is that the height of the approaching person is significantly taller than Dallas, Kane and Lambert as they stood next to the chair in Alien.

There's one image of the derelict in the trailer that looks so amazing. It is rotating "2001: A Space Odyssey" style ! Perhaps as it begins decay from orbit but it is a remarkable looking image and each time I watch that trailer off the disc I burnt through my PS3 and the OPTICAL connections and pump it all through the surround system the effect this image has for just that moment, the fraction of a split second is ASTOUNDING. If someone has the pic of that please post it for me !!! My Cap Card busted a few months back and I still haven't replaced it. TX in advance !

Those 3 at the end for me are hard to get out of my head after watching that trailer !!! Like I said there's just no denying anymore that Scott and the fabulously talented people he surrounds himself with have come up with something very very special here!!!

Pretty much confirms for me that the Derelict was/ is deliberately taken down before it gets somewhere else, most certaily EARTH !!! What we are seeing in this image, is what Saves Mankind from Obliteration.
