This is exacting as I have been wanting an Alien VR game long time, it is even better this game is set within the Alien franchise universe.
Looks like a good starting point for Alien discussions. Where to start?
Hurray more content
Thank you and good to hear from you. Raised By Wolves had that atmosphere that only Ridley is capable of but I think there were two challenges it faced.
1) It tried to pursue the story as a mystery but did not have a dominant pay off and the miniature resolutions in season 1 felt like monster trope's.
2) You need characters to care about and doing neutral robotics relies on an intellectual coherence that engages you. I may watch it all again to make sure I did not miss that.
As for FG i am always surprised and delighted to see people continue to read it. The movie looks thin in places now, but the crucial problem will always be that Ridley tried to move toward the creature being a foot note and the core fan base are much more interested in the creature than the issues he tried to frame it in.
Whereas those that were intrigued by Prometheus had the opposite view.
As both a military brat and a fan of military science fiction, the Trailer needs to be reworked, since the marines didn't behave like either proper marines or even proper colonial marines.
I do like the fact this video game will be using the Alien RPG as its lore bible.
The trailer looks great, glad to know there is another Alien game coming and keep the saga active.
I think the most simple explanation is as follows. The green glass like ampoules within the large black organic vessels are essentially organic weapons. The green gem is also holding such a weapon but of more magnitude. Which is what is depicted in the relief emboss directly above the gem (Xenomorph). As the ultimate weapon and the biggest green vessel it’s clearly the organic based nuke of choice, the gold standard alien pathogen aka a Queen (or the means to create one). That’s my theory anyway. (Ps I know this is years later but still re watching in 2022!)
You should start gaming, there is an entire expanded universe with great stories to offer
Will there be humans that play an important role in it or will it just be synthetics? If it will just be synths versus aliens then no tanks.
I'm not much of a gamer but it's good to see this franchise being around still.
Hey, nice to see that you are still passionate about this and happy 10 year anniversary, I guess.
To bad that after so much time, not much remained, even Raised by Wolves was cancelled... :(
Thank you for your reply.
In creative terms my story begins the day before the movie was released ten years ago. In other words it considers all the ideas expressed in the most comprehensive blu ray released, which includes the Making of Documentary "Prometheus Gods." It then sifts those materials and out of it emerges my own rule book which in no way contradicts any of the base materials.
I then wrote a two part book which, whilst sticking to the spine of the movie, is a substantial revision. There is no Fifield and sub xenomorphic behaviour instead the omniscient narrater explains among other things the meaning of the material in the four vials, what was happening to Charles Holloway and the creature makes an appearance.
The second book is an entirely original work which speculates on the nature of how evil comes into an Engineered Universe.
My only other reference point is the movie A L I E N and in the interests of coherent story telling the Nostromo lands 29 years later on the Moon which the events of Prometheus took place (for the longest part of production that was the intention)and the Cargo Bay of the lone craft contains just 132 Ovoids. (11 x 12).
My other inspirations were Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (The New Prometheus), John Milton's Paradise Lost and the notion Buddist's believe in of intermediation and Bardo.
Oddly Ridley Scott's Seven Worlds is a visual precis of my story.
I was just looking at this yesterday
The new expansion is called of Heart of Darkness and by the look of its cover will feature the Deacon from Prometheus. The previous book, Colonial Marine Operation Manual included two lines of black goo mutants based on Holloway and Fifield
the Alien RPG has been adding to the Prometheus lore for a while now
This week marks the 10th Anniversary since the release of the 20th Century Fox Film Prometheus.
Two qualities stand the test of time it remains a visual feast and a great talking point. I am certain that is why people continue to read my two part novel is because people want to see another take on what all the clues might mean.
For me ALIEN/PROMETHEUS is about unauthorised creation and my book is about whether two constructs one mechanical, the other biological can receive sanctification and return creation to the sanctified sacrifice we see at the beginning of the movie, given the door was left ajar 2,000 years ago.
Ridley went on to say:
“If the planet went wrong, they would want to wipe it clean. But that could take 500 years. When they revisit – because different visitors would come back and see we’re not doing so well – they would look at these human beings that are jerks, that are killing the planet, killing themselves, can’t settle down, they’re like a bunch of children. We should wipe it clean.”
I can send you and everyone interested the full resolution of these renders. Just message so I don't forget it :)
I personally really want david's arc to be completed. we as an audience atleast deserve that much. they can start reinventing after that. You cant just leave something behind like that, or idk if its just because i watched prometheus and covenant back to back just now.
Yeah but not all the marines were synthetics though, Hicks and some of the ground forces marines were human IIRC since the xenomorphs took some of them back to the nest.
Sounds a bit like the first Alien comic from '87, with Hicks and Newt. They had an all synth marine squad in that as well. Newt and Hick's names were changed to Wilks and Billie after Alien 3 came out...
an all synthetic marine squad... talk about no horror nor tension.
damn I can't edit
"Are you concerned that it would spread to the movies and screw things up?"
It has the possibility, yes. Being a movie-first franchise, the CORE CANON is the films. However for those who want to see more of the Alien Universe since the movies take too long to be made/produce and can only experience them in book, graphic novel, or video game. These marvel comics breaks the rules of the core canon (the films) had established onscreen.
Xenotaris: OK so what in the alien-universe is basic lore then? If it’s just the movies, then the comics wouldn’t be a problem, right? If the comics don’t matter, then what’s the point of being against it?
“... its just this comic breaks basic lore about the synthetics.”
Which implies that what the comics tell us matter to an extent, or? I just try to understand your position on the topic. Are you concerned that it would spread to the movies and screw things up?
I never said the comics were official material, well maybe except for ALIENS Defiance/Resistance which is considered canon by the Alien RPG
Hey I remember these
Xenotaris: I don't have a problem with that since I don't see comics as being official material. They can use things from there in movies later on, if they want to.
Thoughts_Dreams
Its not that its about synthetics, its just this comic breaks basic lore about the synthetics. Marvel's comics are barely even EU stories since they don't contribute in expanding the universe in any meaningful way that Dark Horse did. Say what you will about Dark Horse but they at least know how to be consistent with the EU's lore outside of the realm of comics
OK, whatever
Some people might enjoy the synthetic-story, androids, whatever. I'm into the human element, and that's something that AC did wrong by relying too much on androids. Guess that they didn't learn from Alien Covenant? Not that it’s wrong to introduce new things, but the human journey should still be the center thing. Hard pass for me, but I'm also not very much an EU-guy.
Even Raised by Wolves tackles the idea of androids raising human children, but they are still dependent on human needs and purpose. It will be interesting to see how they explain this. The storyline will suffer if the synthesizers are too "human". We are in Blade Runner territory at this point.
I am excited to read this comic, through cards i can buy for comics.
well this is another comic I will be removing from my personal ALIEN continuity
I'm struggling to understand it as well Xenotaris... Synthetics are by design servants and aids to Human initiatives. David was an outlier and a special creation which gave him a desire to look beyond his fundamental programming but it was insinuated that following David, the WEYLAND corp moved to reprogram Synths to be less radical and self aware.
Even the show Raised by Wolves tackles the notion of Androids raising human offspring but still - they remain reliant on Human needs and purpose. I'm curious to see how they explain this. Making the Synths too "human" will negatively impact the storyline imo. We're running into Blade Runner territory at this rate.
Xenomorphs attacking synthetics willfully and unprovoked, this breaks lore. Also can't create tension if you are incapable of being impregnated unless Marvel breaks that lore too. Also what's the point in having an entire colony of only synthetics?
aaaaaannnd... its gone. erf. wanted to see that.
wow love this extended scene. Why did they cut it? If it was from the original Alien film I can see the reason why it was cut but in Covenant this extended scene is pretty intense and effective.
and now I wonder if there are more extended scenes or even extended version of the film
