Actually, according to the book, when the black goo infects its host it produces more of the goo. And you can see when the Engineers were subdued by the goo, they were vomiting it and tentacles of the black goo were erupting from their bodies. Spores/motes are also visible floating all over the place.

It reminds me of cordyceps fungus, that when infects an insect, it kills it and soon out of the insect erupts the fungi that release spores into the air. That's nature's way of balancing numbers.

I think a Large Problem comes from what the Black Goo is, and it seemed a make it up as they go along in part!

Its Origins were quite simple!   Jon Spaights Nano Scarabs from his Alien Engineers draft (Earlier drafts to Prometheus).   The Black Goo idea was a evolution of those Nano-Scarabs and the Black Goo indeed seems likely to just be some Nano-Parasitic Organism.

Nano Scarabs, Nano Worms or Pathogen... the concept was simple..  It was used as a Hybrid/Creation tool by the Engineers... the Pathogen/Parasite would infect a Organism and Break down/Consume it Molecule by Molecule that would replicate itself and become a Mutagenic  Substance that Carried the Genome/DNA of the Organism it came into contact with.  This resulting substance would then infect any other Life-Form and pass on the Genome/DNA of the Organism it had previously consumed/dissolved to create a Hybrid

Sacrificial Substance + Engineer = Engineer Based Mutagen, which when infects say Primate would create a Hybrid and thus Mankind.

Sacrificial Substance + Wolf = Wolf Based Mutagen which when infects say a Human would give us a Hybrid so say like a Werewolf.

Sacrificial Substance + Cat = Cat Based Mutagen which when infects say a Human would give us a Hybrid so say like a Thundercat lol

We can assume if we then infected said Thundercat with the Sacrificial Goo, then resulting Thundercat based Mutagen infected a Werewolf we would end up with maybe a Hybrid that would be 25% Cat, 25% Wolf and 50% Human.

However maybe only more desired, beneficial traits are carried on, and so % may not be too accurate.

This really was HOW simple the Substance was at its Origin of Concept....   And i think even now, the process i described above is in part HOW David had experimented with the Neomorph, and Combined/Hybridized its DNA with various other Organisms in order to combine and create the Perfect Organism from many traits of various Life Forms.

The effects on the Engineers in Alien Covenant are more likely from how i explained in my previous post.  In that the Substance can be Programed to not OBTAIN Genomes to pass on, but when Weaponized a Certain way it just replicates its base self, which is Programed to simple Turn each Molecule of the Organism Programed to attack into a Solid State!

Making it a Perfect Creation/Hybrid and Evolution Tool and also a Perfect Destruction Tool when Programed/Activated a certain way.

This was the theory i had came to, after seeing Prometheus and the Mural, and the Trailer that had the Sacrificial Cup instead of the Green Crystal....  a theory which Months latter when the earlier drafts of Prometheus were released seemed to make even further sense.

But there was constant changes as they went along, that just made it all a bit of a mess that made little sense.

There never really was anything bursting from the Engineers (apart from the Pathogen), but its a little Vague... it seemed the Pathogen had Targeted them, it then seemed to replicate itself inside them and then escape to go onto infect another Target.

The Pathogen itself seemed to Target the Engineers DNA replicate itself but then instead of Mutating or Breaking down the Engineers Molecular Structure it seemed to turn every Molecule to like Stone!

David informs us its a Radical AI, and if a Bio-Weapon is a form of AI that Means it can be programed to Manipulate or Effect Genetic Material in a number of ways.  And so Calcifying Genetic Material of certain Genomes could be programed.

This makes Perfect Sense if the Bio-Weapon was to be Primed a Certain way to use on Mankind so that we then Replicate/Spread the Pathogen but after a period our Genetic Make up becomes Calcified and we become as Stone!

This would be ideal to use to Destroy Mankind, and leave the rest of the World In-tact!   If this assumption is accurate then we can see the effect on the Engineers is because their Genome is Identical to ours to a degree.

We do have to ask what became of the other Life-Forms... David had found and studied other Life Forms after the Bombardment so not everything was KILLED.

The Neomorphs, we only saw the Spores at the Bottom of the Stream that ran down the Mountain, and we also saw others inside the Juggernaught in a area were its Hanger had been Partially Buried within the Earth of the Mountain and over the Stream of Water that carries on down to the Stream where Ledwood was infected.

The ideal Explanation for me, is that after the Juggernaught Crashed, some of the Un-Weaponized Urns had fell over/out and infected the Water Supply (ran down the Mountain and beneath where the Ship Crashed), and thus infected a Form of Fungus that grows where Mold/Moss would grown near the side of a Water Supply.... this Fungus was then Evolved into the Neomorph Spores.

I think a lot is open to interpretation...

The Prologue Scene to me shows Multiple Levels of Philosophy

The White Room and Clothing by David represents Innocence and Purity, like the Birth of a Child who is Innocent, where its the kind of interaction and Life they then live that Molds their Character.  We can already see the seeds of how Davids Treatment by Weyland could shape his Character.

The Room is adorned by Creation.... this scene is really about CREATION.  But it offers other Philosophical Elements that connect to Davids Character ARC

The room has inventions, Art, Musical Instruments, these are all Creations... a Man can be Measured by his Creations.  Art is a form of Creation a Expression, Music Likewise... its why latter we are shown the Scene with Walter and David where its indicated that Walter is limited in what he can Create!

The Background resembles the Opening Scene of Prometheus, the connection is there Symbolic alone IMO, the Prometheus Scene seemed to show our Creation, the Prologue in AC is to show Davids Creation (well Activation/Birth) the Nativity Painting is to show the Birth/Creation of Jesus Christ... who like David is a Enchanted Boy, they are not NORMAL Humans.   It shows us that Jesus would go on to achieve something beyond what Mortals Could.   We could consider the same for David.

The Michelangelo David Statue represents again how a Humble Beginning, a Boy who was only a Sheppard would eventually go on a path that would lead to him becoming a King, and stand up against Oppression.

I agree in part its about Technology but it is much more about Creation, as Technology is Created... the only Technology in that Room really is David and you could say the Piano to a Degree... but you could call the Chair, the Tea all Technology too.

Its to show us the Philosophy that Immortality can come from what we are remembered by.... we remember who Michelangelo is because of his Works....  We can remember Wagner because of his Music...  Weyland would be remembered by his Creations and Achievements..

But then Weyland raises a Good Point... what is the point of all these things, if you cant be around for Eternity to Appreciate them.

The Ozymandias Poem touches on similar... it shows that a King can be remembered for his Deeds, Monuments erected in his Image/Honor.  Immortalized by them to a degree, but never Truly being Immortal and that ONE DAY, nothing shall remain!

In say a Billion Years from now, especially if the Earth suffers a Apocalyptic Event like what Destroyed the Dinosaurs in the next say Million Years.   The Earth to any visitors from Space could look just as Mars does now!

Eventually the Earth would be NO-MORE.... Nothing will Remain!  Unless we can leave Earth and pass on our Knowledge and Works... then  our entire History will end just as the  Ozymandias Poem

I am not 100% sure...

I think certainly as far as offering us a Cinematic Game Franchise.  But expanding this to a Movie?  I am not sure... a 5-6 Part TV Series would be interesting to explore.

I dont feel the Alien Franchise is as big as Star Trek or Star Wars by virtue of the limited Scope of the Alien Franchise as far as Humans, Xenomorphs and Space Travel within like 500 Light Years.

But Prometheus had potentially opened up a Expanded Universe that could rival Star Wars  and Star Trek, maybe not to the same level but the Engineers Plot expands the Franchise to the Far Reaches of the Galaxy with the potential of Many Many Worlds, Many Many Races and Many Many Horrors.

It seems this was at least Ridley Scotts ambition.

Unfortunately.....  Financial Bankruptcy is a more real Concept...  and its the same with the Comics... there is always a Market to make $$$$$ that would be less risk Financially than trying to Provide a Movie thats Dark and Thought Provoking!

A Blomkamp/Cameron ALIEN movie is likely to make more Money than a continuation of a Ridley Scott Attempt!  as a majority still do Lament for Xenomorphs and Queens killing Humans and Marines.

It would be interesting to get some kind of RPG type Game set in the Franchise that is not purely about Xenomorphs and Run and Shoot!    But i feel even when the Movie Franchise is Dead and Buried from further Damage!

There will always be the Merchandise, Comics and Games that Disney know they can make money from within the Alien Franchise... why i cant see them selling the Franchise to someone else.

BigDaveAlien: Romulus 2 NewsUntitled Alien game by Cold Iron Studios will be massive online shooter!

I think there is always the Market for Multiple Online Shooters, i used to play quite a few back prior to 2005 and the ones that stood out for me was the Games where it was more than just Shoot/Kill and Capture the Flag etc.

I was a really Big Fan of Wolfenstien Enemy Territory as it was not centered around just running around and killing.

With regards to a ALIEN Universe Shooter it would depend again if its just the standard Run and Shoot Formula and if its the Camerons Aliens and as per ALIENS.

By that i means Marines vs Aliens.

Were you Play Marines with Various Weapon Options such as Pulse Riffles, Smart Guns, Flame Throwers and Shotguns.   And the Alien Player can play as Xenomorphs, Face Huggers and a Queen!

Then i think it would be very limited.....

But there is scope to show us different Hybrids of Xenomorphs that have different abilities, have different classes of Marines which include Medics, and Special Ops..  I then feel provided the Game is not all Run and Shoot based, but objective based then i think it could work!

Set in the Alien Universe could allow for additional Fractions such as Engineers and Synthetics but it would be likely better if those sides have Less Numbers but superior abilities.

So there is more scope than just limited variations of Xenomorph and Marines we saw in the 1986 ALIENS Movie.

It could even have the Predators as a Downloadable Content so some Battles can just be set in the ALIEN Universe while others could expand to the AVP Franchise.

I think in part its a shame that its JUST a Multiplayer Game, as i think there is GREAT potential to do a ALIEN Universe Game that has the Perfect Balance between a Survival Horror of Alien Isolation, and a Shooter like the Latest AVP Games and Colonial Marine Game.... especially with the EXPANDED Universe that the Prometheus/Alien Covenant Plots had introduced.

Maybe we could see a Single Player Game set in the Alien Expanded Universe down the Line?

Good points. The series could actually begin again with a clean slate for a new generation. Old timey purists might balk at the whipper snapper but so what?

Notice how long Star Trek has survived through different casts- the core of what made it Star Trek always remained. That's what Alien needs to do.

Not a big fan of online games. I prefer a great story and suspenseful gameplay, two things hard to achieve in a game like this. As far as Alien games go, Isolation and the marine campaign in AvP2 have never been bettered in terms of suspense and story.

Its tricky.

We should welcome any new content to the franchise as positive, but on the flip-side we want quality over quantity, and shouldn't accept any less.

But we do need to give any proposed release the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. There are some thoroughly engaging Point-and-click survival-horror games and quasi-RPG mobile device games too.

Hopefully Blackout will be a raging success.

Btw, the fact that the movies lend themselves to be interpreted in numerous ways is precisely the advantage of them being so vague in the first place.

As Ridley said it is much better for him if he underspecifies a movie rather than write and produce a cast in stone type of story. He prefers people talking over the movie indefinitely. Which we are doing now for what 6+ years.

But I still think that scene, the opening scene in AC is about technological advancement, about the grasp for resurrection. All that was in the room are products of human. There was nothing in the room about the so called spiritual soul - no Bible or any other text :) So, while it is an open movie - that sequence, BigDave is all about technology progress and inevitable, pressing, desperate search for immortality.

Yep- watched an Ancient Aliens series a long time ago and it is very thought provoking.

More and more, science generally suggests we are not alone- defining what "alone" means is another matter. Is it intellectual, physical, etc...

Time travel is tough to get the head around. Again, it deals with wormholes and such- well reasoned hypothesis but ultimately unproved- for now.

It wasn't possible in the late 1970s, but it is now possible to work in the giant egg silo HR Giger made. Most probably don't care about it. The scale of that area was way off form the derelict- it is a matter of fact the forum has beaten to death. I don't want to open up old wounds, but that whole egg thing and then seeing canisters in Prometheus is problematic and needs some explaining.

It seems like the next one should do that while also being a prequel including Prometheus and AC- some weird series/way of doing it RS talked about a few years ago.

"but about hostile, extremely dangerous creatures, a shady corporation, dark places, tension that builds up, horror"

That certainly is the CORE thing that made ALIEN work and to a degree the other Movies... Those things can be explored but its case of HOW do you use the Xenomorph to accomplish this, how many times can you get away with it, before it just becomes same old, same old?

The Prequels opened up the idea of other FORM's of Horror and there is a very GOOD basis for such a ALIEN/ALIEN 3 kind of Plot, or a Aliens kind of Plot..  to please such Fans, by going the route of what happens when more Humans Stumble upon the aftermath of LV-223, Planet 4 or maybe Origae-6 after what ever David has done/is set to do.

Its the Balancing Act of doing one of these but also to cover David and the Philosophy of Prometheus etc.  I think the Engineers are interested... but many fans may expect their return to be more in vain of the Comic Books.

Maybe the Fans should be given such things... and leave the Deep Philosophical stuff to NOVELS

The Company Agenda was always something interesting to PONDER the pursuit of the Xenomorph to use as a Bio-Weapon that proves to be FOLLY is a Plot that gets repetitive once you go over and over it.

Giving some other Reason for WHY they pursue the Xenomorph other than a Bio-Weapon is the way to go.. which could mean a pursuit of its Genetics for use of Perfection/Engineering... or show us WHY the company admires the Creation because it was created by one of their OWN and thus those pulling the strings and Special Order 937 are AI is something else to explore.

The Philosophy and especially Emphasis on David and AI may fit well with Prometheus..... but a ALIEN Prefix Series that will connect to ALIEN it is a distraction to a degree.  And Fans are going to Expect and Want... " hostile, extremely dangerous creatures"  and less of the Philosophy and AI Elements.

If this generates a decent amount of interest and money, maybe they can explore another Amanda Ripley AAA Game for Console/PC... and if that does well, maybe they could consider a Amanda Ripley Spin Off TV Series or Movie?

Its a ideal way to Gauge what Fans of the Franchise would like to see as far as Games and other Franchise Content.

To Continue.....

But explore WHY we went for a Prequel...

Again its one of those Mysteries... maybe ONE that should have been left alone... but i feel for RS... he lost the chance to expand on ALIEN, he had no real input to the Sequels... the FEW things that were never Answered were.

Xenomorph... where/when did it come from and WHY!

Space Jockey.... who was he, and WHY did he have that Cargo!

Once you answer those, then you have to ask WHAT NEXT?

The Answers was there for us all along... just not in a Direct Spoon Fed Manner, for many years RS had hinted to us the Xenomorph was a Bio-Weapon used by the Space Jockey the only thing we NEVER knew was a Bio-Weapon intended for WHO and WHY and HOW the Xenomorph came to be.

Once you ANSWER those... then its a case of how many more times can you show the Xenomorph before you have to have something NEW/FRESH!

It THUS becomes the WHO/WHY/WHEN as far as who the Space Jockey had a Conflict with, and explore who the Space Jockey Race are, and what happened to their Species... that provides the Avenue to give us something FRESH!

This was the Foundation to give us the Chariots of the Gods Plot... in part because this Plot introduces Mankind into the MOLD... because if we explore the Space Jockey has being Alien and in a WAR with a Alien Species from FAR FAR away, then its HOW do we introduce Human Characters into the PLOT?

Hence Perhaps the Prometheus Plot was a Necessity of Sorts.

Another thing is that Ridley Scott as mentioned not long ago had NO INPUT on the sequels to what he would consider one of his Babies (ALIEN) and if NO PREQUEL was ever made... you can bet ONCE the Formula of Queens and Ripley was done over and over... FOX would have potentially at some-point HAD to decide to Answer those Questions as a means of expanding the Franchise and make more MONEY!  And so you can bet RS wanted to Answer those in a way that suited him, rather than in years someone else came along and ANSWERED them in a way that would make him TURN in his Grave...

The Biggest Hindsight is that maybe something more Alien could have been explored but this could have been done in sequels...  The other Hindsight is that Prometheus did-not give enough to satisfy some, to the point they could have closed to the DOOR to Alien and moved on with something NEW in the sequels.

Prometheus 2 was a tough NUT to crack... a LARGE problem is what kind of Movie can be made by Following Dr Shaw and her Answers, and David and his Story Arc, were they discover the Engineers Home-world and meet these beings who MAY-NOT take too kindly to David and Dr Shaw and so HOW do they survive such a Encounter?

They meet these Benevolent Beings who are much more like the God and Angels of Dr Shaws Faith?  Would these beings then be interested in seeing Mankind and come back to us?  But where is the Horror/Threat in that and this is the KEY them of the Alien Franchise and so there could be limits to meeting Friendly Engineers.   But then if they meet Wicked Engineers, then how does David and Dr Shaw survive... and where to they go next as far as where do other Human Characters Come from?

Sadly FOX felt the Quest of Dr Shaw would be a troublesome one to continue, and where do other Human  Characters come into play... and pressure from Fans to have those Answers (to ALIEN) and Xenomorphs... made more sense to then explore the basis of the Alien Covenant Plot.

There are ways around this... i had many ideas to give us Human Characters but steer away from Earth and Alien... but alas... i should have tried to maybe give my ideas to FOX.. and its if they would have listened anyway ;)

@Neomorph

I think on ONE HAND you raise some Valid Points, and on the OTHER you lead us to WHY we had Ridley Scott explore what he wanted.   It really does come down to a Rock and a Hard Place.

" thus retrofitting explanations to the original film that imo should’ve been left alone or alternatively expanded through James Cameron’s already masterful sequel"

Indeed this is what i was referring to in my opening statement, some things maybe should have been left to MYSTERY  the personal opinion and ideas we each could FATHOM to some of those Mysteries from ALIEN could be more interesting than what we may get IF we are given the Answers.

But then by NOT expanding on these, we are left with indeed how to continue with Camerons Foundations.. would there be any such more Cameron way to tell us HOW/WHEN/WHERE the Xenomorph came to be.. or WHO the Space Jockey are?  Or are these the things we should LEAVE ALONE?

Which then leaves us with HOW do we expand on the Franchise, HOW many times can we go to the same old Formula before for some it gets Boring? and Diluted?

A Question we had to ask from prior to the Prequels really was WHY do we have the movies follow RipleyWHY after she died in Alien 3 did they have to Resurrect her?

Do ALIEN movies have to be about her just as much as the Xenomorph?   I think in going for Alien Resurrection it lead us down a road were we have to had then concluded that after she killed herself in Alien 3 this maybe was the END to the companies attempts to obtain a Xenomorph. Because why else would they pursue her in Alien 3 and then seemingly after she killed herself, it was about Hundred Years latter before Scientist at USM managed to obtain a Xenomorph Queen via Cloning of Ripley (Yep how does that work out!) but it was needed for Plot Convenience.

So we had to then consider, did this mean there was NOTHING to be had from LV-426 and the Derelict? Leaving Ripley as the only Source of a Xenomorph in Alien 3?  Does this mean there are NO other Xenomorphs to be had?  Not within the area of the Cosmos Mankind had ventured by the year 2379 it seemed.

This left the Franchise with 3 Options... by the Time Ripley had Sacrificed herself!

1) Explore some other way the Company Obtained the Xenomorph (was the Derelict Destroyed) was the Xenomorph found on other Worlds too?   Would they make a movie that does-not have Ripley though? and at this time would having a Amanda Ripley like Story had worked?

2) Explore some-kind of Prequel, were at least we can touch upon the Space Jockey Race and where else they could have tried to use/keep those Xenomorphs.

3) The Alien Resurrection Plot!

They chose Option 3 and by Virtue of being set 100 years after Alien, it kind of limited exploring Option 1 in future. (But would not rule out similar as a sort of Prequel/Parallel Story to the Aliens/Alien 3 Time-line).

Regardless of what they chose Option 1-3 we would have had to ask how many times can we have Xenomorphs, Eggs and Queens before it got repetitive...  Then we had the Games and AVP movies which kind of Water-downed our Xenomorph.

So this left us with the Following Options!

Continue with kind of a Option 1/2 from above...

Or give us a ALIEN 5 set after Alien Resurrection, were how long this was left for by 2010 we then had to contend with a Ripley 8 (who we maybe can assume can Regenerate and so would she AGE) and Miss Weaver being 13 years older.   And by going for such a Sequel... what can it do different to Humans Attempt/Obtain Xenomorph and Queen and Ripley comes to the Rescue?

The other OPTION could had been a Prequel... but then its HOW-FAR and WHEN do you set such a thing if we assumed the Space Jockey was there for Thousands of Years and his Race was NO-WHERE to be seen in Subsequent movies.   This proposes a Problem as how do we make a Movie about a Alien Race and that Cargo in the Past without Human Characters and get Fans to be interested... PLUS the Poisoned Chalice of Touching upon the Mystery could prove Risky if the Story/Plot is not GOOD.  This in Part is maybe the Reason for Ridley Scott to have came up with Jon Spaights the whole Chariots of the Gods kind of Plot.

Where RS felt there was only so much you could do with the Xenomorph, and that the Reasons for its Creation and exploring the Engineers and what else they may have Created, was the way Forwards...  In HINDSIGHT too much connective tissue to the Xenomorph was cut in the process of getting from Alien Engineers to Paradise (which became Prometheus).

A Bold Plot... that distracted a little because it was more about Philosophical Questions and revelations that made the Enigma of the Space Jockey less ALIEN and less HP Lovecraftian.   But None the Less opened up Avenues to Expand the Franchise beyond Ripley, Queens and Eggs

But ALAS.... Prometheus also did-not contain Xenomorphs or more so enough clues to answer HOW those Eggs got on board the Derelict....  and as a Consequence we got Alien Covenant, because in Hindsight Prometheus did-not have enough Xenomorph connections or similar scenes of Plight of Humans against some Alien Horror.

Prior to the Dilemma of where to take a Prometheus Sequel... we did have Blomkamps Alien 5 and these ideas seemed to be gaining a lot of Interest as opposed to a Movie that would steer further from Alien and the Xenomorph.   I think the Hype/Expectation to Blomkamps Alien 5, in part resulted in the U-Turn for Alien Covenant to bring the Xenomorph back.

If i go back to the Dilemma they had prior to making the Prequels and those OPTIONS i mentioned... and if it was felt that a Movie with Ripley was needed... then the only Option really would have been a Alien 5 sequel and then come up with a Solution to explain WHY a Hybrid Ripley 8 would have aged some 10+ years.  Going this route then we have to assume the only way to obtain the Xenomorph would be if ANYTHING survived the USM Auriga Destruction, or via Ripley 8's DNA (which would have been a already done that Scenario).

But NOT if we had Blomkamps more Cameron, Alien 5... were it would have Re-conned Alien 3, but by doing some would have explored that there are other Avenues to the Xenomorph and NOT take us down the route that there is NOTHING to salvage from LV-426 or anywhere else apart from the Queen that Ripley was Gestating.

The problem with this apart from upsetting those who liked Alien  3 and Alien Resurrection, is HOW can it be different and NOT just retread the same things over and over...  Go for a Blomkamps Alien 5 and then what?

Alien 6, Alien 7 and what changes can be made to do something different? Do they continue with Ripley, Pass the Torch on to Newt?  This seemed to be the case!

Alien 5 had some good ideas, and we need to remember it was not to feature Ripley, Newt and Hicks.. it was only when Blomkamp had spoken to Miss Weaver that Blomkamp felt they had to re-introduce that surviving cast from ALIENS but then we have the Age Problem.. but a Retcon could be set 10, 20 or so years after ALIENS.

A Alien 5 that would be a sequel to Alien Resurection would be BUGGED by the Age of Miss Weaver unless we accept the Xenomorph DNA does nothing to stop her growing OLD  and even so such a Alien 5 be it a sequel to Alien Resurrection or Blomkamps Alien 5 would only be able to give us Ripley and Queens so much before it GETS Repetitive and so something FRESH was needed.

PROMETHEUS opened up that for us... but Alien Covenant has somewhat closed those Doors and Wrote itself into a Corner..

Rebooting is not the answer, not for this franchise. I agree though, Covenant divided more than it brought together. I appreciate Scott's attempt at redeeming what he started with Prometheus but give it some time and I know many will have wished the Prometheus angle was explored further.

Those who wished for the tried and true Xenomorph slasher flick seem to be in the minority. Many Alien fans wanted something more, they wanted answers and wanted expansion. Sadly, the minority were louder and swayed studio execs into focusing more on the Alien and less on the story. The rest of us were patiently waiting for the continuation of what Prometheus started.

I do also agree I think Blomkamp releasing the Alien 5 concepts were planned due to Covenant's marketing ramp up and it certainly derailed a few things. The nostalgia fueled feedback for that project put Scott on blast and clouded focus on Prometheus 2. It's unfortunate, really. Especially since it was all for nothing since Fox put Alien 5 on hold. I think, had Blomkamp waited till after Covenant's release to announce his project, things would have played out differently and I really do think Covenant would have gone a very different way.

I hope the issues with Covenant do not discourage Scott. I want to see how his story ends. Show us the original plan for Prometheus' trilogy.

“Alien is undergoing an identity crisis”

To say the least, yes it is, as I’ve stated before.

Who’s to blame? That’s a good good question. It’s perfectly reasonable that many fans were either disappointed or confused with this completely new direction that tampered with the first film.

It added a whole new scope with the engineers and the origin of mankind into the mix, thus retrofitting explanations to the original film that imo should’ve been left alone or alternatively expanded through James Cameron’s already masterful sequel to Ripley’s sci-fi journey, another example of great filmmaking.

It wasn’t about philosophy or grand questions about humanity and creation, but about hostile, extremely dangerous creatures, a shady corporation, dark places, tension that builds up, horror, all without leaving the audience with way too many clues and loose ends.

To be fair to Ridley, I’m sure he was tired of the same yet proven formula and wanted to tell a new story that he felt was interesting and original.

Maybe a lot of people felt the same, but I think it’s safe to say that most fans relate a brand or a franchise to what it was about or stood for, generally speaking.

If we assume the reality of ALIENS...

Then yes this is a possible theory... but WHY surely they would only need to come back a FEW times and take a Few Humans to Study.

Maybe the ALIENS need Humans well our Gene-pool/DNA for some purpose... if we apply this to them being us from the Future then we can only ASSUME their Evolution had lead to them maybe being Sterile and they need us to Procreate their kind.

Regarding us being alone!

its one of the Great Unknowns... we simply cant be 100% Sure but we are discovering that Earth like Worlds are NOT as rare as ours being the only ONE in our Galaxy, never  mind the Universe.... but even if this means Billions and Billions are Earths... we cant be sure if any have Intelligent Life like our own... but there could be Thousands that Have... its a Question of Distance and Ability to Travel to such Worlds and Vice Versa.

Which leaves us to PONDER in context to ALIENS (not the Chest Busting Kind) alternatives to explain Alien Species who may had visited us..

And Time-Traveling Humans and other Dimensional Beings are TWO other ways to look at it, as opposed to Alien Races from other Solar Systems.

"Organic life with genetic engineering could probably live for ever (especially if we think about them as flash and bone machines). Maybe even the engineers had the option to take that route, but did not take it as only cancer cell divide for ever, being thus immortal. "

This certainly could be the Pursuit of Science in the distant Future, it certainly becomes interesting to PONDER what happens when Science can achieve this Eventually.  lets say they discover a way that allows for Human Cells to Regenerate and so Under Certain Conditions (not abusing) we can have Organs that Regenerate and Do-Not Age, Skin that Does-Not Age.    Genetic Engineering that can Eliminate Defects and Certain Diseases, and then have Cures to other Diseases.

What happens when we open such a Pandoras Box?  Would this discovery only be available for the Rich Few... and what happens to those who know such Semi-Immortality Exists for the Chosen Few... what does the Rest of Humanity do?  Accept they will DIE while the Rich Few have the KEY to Immortality.

Doe the selected Few who can have this GIFT see the threat of Mankind and Eradicate the Majority of us, so these Super-Human would be Immortals can rule the World?

We could imagine if something similar had happened to the Engineers at one point?

Certainly the Original Idea was that the Engineers were a Race who had Evolved/Engineered themselves in such a way, that eventually they lost the ability to Procreate... yet they are NEVER truly IMMORTAL they can be killed and could eventually Die Out.... hence the Sacrificial Scene.

The other potential Future for the pursuit of Immortality i feel would come from when we attempt to UPLOAD our Souls into a Form of AI and doing this IF/WHEN successful would be a road to IMMORTALITY but also a AFTER-LIFE of sorts.   But again the pursuit of this could well have many PIT-FALLS that could be a Great Hubris.

It was my interpretation of Prometheus and the Engineers that had led me to PONDER they discovered something or some way that could be used to Engineer themselves to gain Perfection and Semi-Immortality.... but this came at a Grave Cost... especially if the TOOL to achieve this including using the DNA of something else to EVOLVE themselves.

After Alien Covenant, i still think this could still in part be at play, after RS calls the Planet 4 Engineers  the ORIGINALS.   Which to me indicates the LV-223 Engineers are either a Engineered Sub-Creation like Replicants are to Humans... or they are Engineers who had Evolved themselves but at a Great Cost... which the Planet 4 Engineers then Abandoned and went back to their Natural Limited Existence.

Interesting Interpretations....

The Statue of David appears to represent David (Hebrew King) in context to the Battle Against Goliath.  But in regards to how to interpret this in context to David the Android Creation by Peter Weyland could be very open to interpretation.

We have to assume a few things... David had knowledge Programed into him prior to being Activated and so he already had quite a lot of Knowledge already.   But  his AI had not yet been fully tested in the Synthetic Vessel we see in the Prologue.  And he had not yet been given a NAME.

The reason who chose David is interesting and we could ponder multiple reasons for choosing this name, surely its more than Generalities as applied by Mentalist by that he is drawn to David because its the ONLY Humanoid Depiction in the Room that stands out more than the Nativity of Christ.... because he could have easily had chosen Jesus as his name...

So we have to wonder what Philosophical Reason had those working on the Movie used to make David choose to name himself after the Statue... bare in mind David was already his name prior to Alien Covenant and so the Statue was added after as a way to show us WHEN he choose the name, and its interesting to wonder what Philosophical connections they was thinking about when they revealed it was this SCENE were he chose his Name.

At the Core David Represents the Potential of Big Things can have Small Beginnings, starting out as a Young Sheppard Boy and his rise to KING had began after he defeated the Giant Goliath who represented Ungodliness and seen as Unclean in the eyes of the LORD. It represents how a Sheppard Boy can rise up against a Great Power and Oppressor and how a mere insignificant Sheppard can achieve the Goal of becoming the KING

so it can represent the Underdog, but we have to remember David is NO Underdog, and to me its shows how someone can RISE to become more than they are Originally Intended to be..   Thus this gives David Aspirations that can can aspire to be more than merely a Servant.

There are indeed many other interpretations but i do think the above, must play some part in the decision to choose the Name of David...   also the Michelangelo David  has a pose that appears to be before the EVENT of killing Goliath.  He is stood in a pose as though he is READY for this Action that allows him to begin his Rise to KING, and become a Beloved and Favored by King Saul and to a degree in effect a Adopted Son like Relationship much as David has with Peter Weyland.

So we could maybe see the Statue showing David (3rd Hebrew King) at the point as he is preparing for the EVENT that will lead to the path to him eventually becoming KING and so in that Context its  a case of NO SOON as Weyland had Activated David he had already set in motion the Inevitable Journey that would lead to David likely perusing to be the KING... Once his Father is GONE.

Its also interesting that David was renowned for being a Magician of Sorts, before his Accomplishment of Killing Goliath and we can certainly see Weylands David has a Great Interest in Music.

The MURAL is also open to interpretation... i have gave mine a number of times on here, so i wont go into detail again.. unless anyone wants me to give my TWO Cents... but its more to do about Pursuit of Perfection and Sacrifice in order to Create. I dont think its in anyway shows anything related to a Godlike Figure to Worship.

For some reason, I had to make this.

I'm not really interested in the game, considering it looks like an FNAF clone. I mostly play on PC and Ps3.

One of the reasons why people don't seem to respect mobile games is because of what hypocritical game companies implement in them. Most of the mobile games are just money milking machines disguised as games.

A little example is Diablo immortal back when the game was announced.

I'll just wait for the Alien game that's being developed by Cold Iron studios.

Is "Alien: Resistance" still in the works as the sequel to Isolation then too?

Does this mini-game bridge those at all I wonder?

Maybe start with a short little game to see what kind of interest might be out there for a AAA title? FNAF with Alien paint- I could get into that.

It looks really good, from its animalistic (true to the original) posture to the details. Very well done.

I wonder if it started out as a AAA game but the budget was cut down to 99.8%.....

and this is what we got.

I mean I get that devs downgrade games and all but come on, this is taking it too far.

...

BTW I’m totally not butthurt about this “game” reveal. No way. Nope.

*while walking away*

Me butt hurt? HA! Riiiiight
