Thanks mate! yeah, I know there are several theories that are floating around. Being engineered makes sense to me..I mean, it grew rather fast as we saw in Alien. I am wandering if it started off as another creature or perhaps something happens in Prometheus where human dna and the whatever is in that canister starts . Of course, the ship with all those eggs in there had to come from some where and was perhaps the jockey dumping them somewhere or going to do a kamikaze into a distant sun? I know in Alien, the signal was repeating, warting off anyone..a warning or has that changed?
ReplyWhere's WierzbowskiPrometheus ForumCould the Space Jockey be...... Oh No it is!!!!! JarJar Binks!!!!!!Nov 9, 2011
The biggest problem I see with prequels is they rob the originals of some of their mystery (especially when they aren't well done). The derelict ship in "Alien" fascinated me and I wanted to see more of it. I imagined being able to explore it, to discover its secrets (safely), and wondered at its history. The thought that I may actually see the derelict flying through space worries me.
Just as the Star Wars prequels robbed Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker of his mysterious past (something diehard fans spent countless hours imagining), Prometheus could do the same. Some of the best sci-fi movies I've seen tend to not answer all the questions, because our imaginations are always more powerful than something put down on film.
Prometheus is promising to me because it connects to Alien without being a true prequel. It may answer some of the questions of the Space Jockey and the derelict, but I hope it leaves some questions unanswered.

It'll be interesting how Ridley reconciles the lifecycle of the alien in Prometheus with the variants seen in "Alien" and "Aliens". If the Space Jockey gave birth to a queen, it could have created all those eggs before it dies (or goes into hibernation - something alluded to in the Alien novelization). It seems that Ridley's vision originally required the alien to cocoon victims in order to transform them into eggs. If that's the case, where did those eggs come from in the derelict?
Of course, there's the possibility that the alien transforms its first victim into an egg that generates a queen ...

The Longer the better, and I disagree completely with whoever said their will be No Aliens in the film, I think there will be plenty, just not in the Xenomorph form we are used to now, but rather the precursor forms of what eventually evolved into the Xenomorph we are used to seeing.
ReplyGhost SolitarePrometheus ForumMy expectations for PrometheusNov 9, 2011
We know at least one Xenomorph came from the Space Jockey, what might it have been like? Was it responsible for all the eggs in the silo beneath the chair?
ReplyWhere's WierzbowskiPrometheus ForumRidley Reveals Nov 9, 2011
All of the little comments being dropped by Ridley & Co. are making me think that we will see very little of the "Alien" itself in this movie. In fact, I don't think we'll see recognizable Space Jockeys either, until the end.
Ridley already hinted that the Space Jockey may have been wearing some kind of bio-mechanical suit, so the actual creature itself may look different. I believe those creatures - the original engineers/terraformers of Earth - will figure prominently in the second/third act of the story. I also think "Prometheus" will indeed refer to one of these engineers, who breaks from the rules of his own society to share their terraforming/life-creating technology with the human crew that finds them.
I wouldn't be surprised if, at the end, "Prometheus" will be punished by being subjected to the very technology he tried to share - a xenomorph. Perhaps he's impregnated with it, escapes in a ship, but crashes on LV-426, where he ultimately perishes from a chestburster (but only after initiating a warning signal). The eggs on the ship all came from that creature (open to debate, since there are many variants on the alien's lifecycle).
Since I expect some of the human crew to survive, perhaps the information they share is the catalyst for interest of Weyland-Yutani in the Zeti Reticuli system. Maybe that's why ships passing through that area of space are listening for distress signals in the first place.
If the story followed such an arc, it indeed has links to Alien but would truly be a standalone film. That makes it pretty interesting as a prequel, in my book.
Any thoughts?

I thought that they all heared that sound and that it was part of the technical problems.
But about the alien, it's a pretty big to say it's perfect after all you know is that it's having acid blood and a great skin. Yes, Ash says it isn't weakend by thoughts or morality, but how could he know? all he saw was a dead facehugger and a chestburster, and that Dallas didn't seemed to be killed. In my view he couldn't have known anything about it's 'thoughts'. I really think the company knew more about them. And when Ash talks about his perfect creater and why it is that, he is not more than just a head on a table, so it might be that he can tell it due to his 'problems'. He also was the person who didn't want to remove the facehugger and made the chestburster escape.
ReplyxenomorphasmidPrometheus Forum"Perfect Organism"Nov 9, 2011
(haha, my second try to post this)
About the 'elephant' sound, I thought it was part of the mechanical problems on the shuttle and that Parker just get's scared of it.
I think Ash got a lot of confident information from the company after the distress call.
I really believe he had had to know more then he told, cause all he knew about them was that they bleed acid, have a very 'strong' skin and that it might not have killed Dallas. Ash talks about the fact the are not weakened by thought's and morality, while know's nothing about there behavior. In first place he only calls the facehugger 'a though one'. Only when he is having some 'technical problems' he starts to talk about the aliens being a perfect creature and why.
He also let's the chestburster escape, like he wanted it to propagate (as seen in the deleted/director's cut 'scene' scene) , instead of freezing it and keeping the alien alive.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus Forum"Perfect Organism"Nov 9, 2011
if the company knew what the alien was then they should know how dangerous it was ... and then would have been ridicolous to send an unarmed crew of only 7 to in an spaceship with thousands eggs ...
So if the company knew something ( and i think not ) it should have been something very vague .
ReplyxenomorphasmidPrometheus Forum"Perfect Organism"Nov 9, 2011
The Nostromo could have been in space already and to bring back an alien, the must have been unarmed, cause every person with a own mind would have tried to kill it directly.
Ash was an android with as only purpose 'to ensure the safe return of the organism' just like mother. And the Alien(s) wouldn't be able to use his mechanical body, so if he locked himself or the alien(s) up, they could travel home safely, where the company could 'pick them up' and capture the alien(s).
And I say nothing for sure, it's just a possibility. So we'll see in june.
ReplyXenowhateverPrometheus Forum"Perfect Organism"Nov 9, 2011
They probably knew what it was from old documents found on earth talking about the xenomorphs coming in a.v.p. That storyline ties in with Alien, right.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus Forum"Perfect Organism"Nov 9, 2011
i dont think Ridley care about the Avp legacy ...
ReplyMr.JPrometheus Forum"Perfect Organism"Nov 9, 2011
It is apparent the "Company" knew of some type of organism but as to it's nature they prob did not. Reroute an unarmed ship with people that no one will miss...expendable. But by placing ASH on the ship prior tells me that they had already drew up a way to get it back here to earth...so, then, something in PROMETHEUS will hopefully flesh that out, like Scott said, the last 8 minutes will give a brighter light on Alien...
Okay...can we finally get a trailer? I mean it..seriously..the Dark knight has one already, though it is not much but it has one..
and yeah, Scott could care less for AVP and any of the movie that were made after Alien.
ReplyalpasaviPrometheus Forum"Perfect Organism"Nov 9, 2011
One thing i dont get is why Ash starts to make some warm ups after the crew of the Nostromo goes to explore the alien ship. I find it really strange for a robot XD.

Yeah, I kinda figured they had this planned before the flight departed. The company knew the ship was there and just needed people who would not be missed. How long have they known about the ship? With some insight, I would think Prometheus aids us in the many questions we have from watching "Alien" as a stand alone film...full of mystery.

Well look what he had to work with.
Lambert...Subject is Despin Convert at birth [male to female]. So far no indication of suppressed traumas related to gender alteration...subject's social counts are too low for large crew...and has been routinely assigned small crew cryosleep mode duties which have been performed adequately. Slight hyperactivity and nervousness diagnosed and Loxy-Clav M (oral ingestion) has been successful...moderate intelligence and performance abilities did not substantially increase after security patrol navigation duties and subject was re-assigned long range cryosleep duties on cargo transports and tugs.
Kane....Under pressure at medical school, subject abused medication (Dylop-Chromium 47) and caused an embolism which hospitalised subject for 107 days. After psych. reorientation at Mann Hadley's medical clinic, subject responded to career therapy and chose to study for a commercial pilot's licence. After achieving it, subject became an executive officer on a British Hospital ship, but again succumbed to drug abuse and was removed from position for re-evaluation. After diagnosing subject as a Hunter-Selman personality variation of type A, Dylop-Chromium 47 treatment was concluded and was replaced with Carothene Matrix A concentrates. Subject may self-medicate with commercially-made alcohol. Tendencies to alcoholism countered with daily consumption of Selway Digression molecule blenders (SMDBs). This treatment proved successful and subject was rated operational for duty again. After gruelling duty as captain of a medical tug, subject asked for transfer away from medicine-related jobs and went into merchant transport assignments
Brett...Subject exhibited passive response to violent childhood memories when given the Steiner/Korngold GMF Analysis, which indicates reversal and sublimation of hostility...SPECIAL NOTE: Subject was remanded to company employment from U.S. Federal Rehabilitation Program for Displaced Youth...subject committed a level 8 felony when 17.
Dallas......preliminary assessment of psych profile indicates subjects [SIC] hostility to authority had been sublimated in such a way as to cause a mild psychosis related to performing executive officer duties...it was determined that a retesting and orientation treatment was due. However, continuity in employment was disrupted
Ash..

ReplyGhost SolitarePrometheus ForumMy expectations for PrometheusNov 8, 2011
I have watched the bluray with it's deleted scenes many times. It never occurred to me to ask why Dallas was in pain. Being folded up and resin encrusted like a poseable doll would be enough combined with the fear that the xenomorph can return at any moment and do whatever it want's with you. Even in contemplation the idea that your dna and subsequently your very metabolism is being rewritten in order to modify you would surely be a painful process in and of itself, so for me the question is answered. Did Brett look like he was having a good time over there across from Dallas? Wait for the last eight minutes of the film, I'm sure Ridley will be addressing many of those questions.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumMy expectations for PrometheusNov 8, 2011
Well to me the behaviour of Dallas is strictly tied to being absorbed but the Alien "matter" ... basically i think his body is melting and that must not be funny . His eyes are swollen . hes not able to see anymore and probably the legs are slowly devoured by the alien "matter"

I agree to all, after alien they made them cool, and not frightning.
and I watch Alien (dc) this morning, and it has been a really long time, but I notist that Ridley's alien fit's perfectly in Nick's quotation, But for some reason I don't think there might be no connection to the other movies, what if aliens not only mutate with there host's DNA, but also with that of there 'parents' host?
It might be a stupid idee.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumMy expectations for PrometheusNov 8, 2011
maybe the host is necessary to feed the egg and the new organism ...
ReplyGhost SolitarePrometheus ForumMy expectations for PrometheusNov 8, 2011
A question....
Consider that the Xenomorph evolved from the impregnation of a human host by a facehugger. What might have evolved from the lengthy mutation of a human into what may have emerged from the Dallas and Brett eggs. The notion that a human would have been transformed into a mere facehugger seems inefficient considering the complexity of raw material the Xeno was given to work with.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumMy expectations for PrometheusNov 8, 2011
But maybe the host was merely a pile of substances ... I think there are animal species that use the body of a host to feed the eggs ...the alien maybe have used the bodies to feed the "dna" that slowly consumed the two living bodies :p
ReplyMr.JPrometheus ForumMy expectations for PrometheusNov 8, 2011
The Alien was just doing what it normally does..gather hosts and then die....like an insect that lives for one day....so...if that is the case, the Alien would of died at some point....depending on how long the life cycle is for the Alien...so Ash, if he had gotten away with it..would have to freeze it to bring it back...
