@Thoughts_Dreams, I agree I think the prequels posed a lot of great questions but lost their way on execution - more so due to Ridley Scott's personal interests and motivations and his obsession with the meaning of life and artificial intelligence. The David arch was and could have been an interesting one to conclude, but since Prometheus there were SO many more paths the series could have taken, that film is a treasure trove of potential directions.
@Big Dave, it is interesting how you mention the Alien being a localized phenomenon, they don't possess their own means of off world travel. Every time (in film) they've been present it's been by an intervention by another species, seeding them on other worlds. It's more so like the Xenomorph is like an infectious virus and Prometheus / Covenant expanded on that concept. The Alien being less of a naturally evolved organism, but more so an engineered pathogen... I really hope Romulus doesn't try to conceptualize a "Xenomorph vaccine" lol!
As for the comic angle - nothing Marvel does will ever touch Dark Horse's legacy.
Dark Nebula
Not just him, the more recent Marvel's Alien comics copycatted some more material from Dark Horse's Alien Comics.
"Maybe the traditional Xeno can be in a cameo-role so they can focus on new things."
So if we were to implement that into an AVP game (which is basically the Call of Duty of Alien and Predator games), what about the xenomorph players? Do you deny the players the xenomorph campaign? Because cameo-role in this instance means no playable xenomorphs, just a cameo appearance.
Video Games are a tad bit different than movies. Since they are interactive, you can do more with a game than a movie. Video Games are not restricted to a two and a half hour movie. Video Games stories can last up anywhere from three hours to fifty eight hours; sky's the limit depending on the game.
Meaning you can have an ALIEN game with xenomorphs (and their relatives) and have the non-xenomorph alien (Engineers, Yautja, new sapient alien or new non-sapient alien) and non-alien threats, (Humans and androids); All in one game.
Let me put it to you this way. Getting away from AVP and coming up with an original Alien game.
Pre-Level 1 - This episode would focus on learning the controls of the game.
Pre-Level 1-1 - This scene introduces the character and a taste of what's to come in the story.
Level 1 - Now you are walking around getting to know your surroundings and getting to know your mission or purpose.
Level 2 - Shit hits the fan, in this level you would see the xenomorphs to codify that this is an aliens game, you might glimpse of a predator or hear it or a glimpse of another threat.
Level 3 - More xenomorphs but now you can introduce a new species of creature completely unrelated to the xenomorph or play up more of the human threat.
Level 4 - Now you’ll see an Engineer or some new sapient being. Is it a threat? Is it not a threat? You don’t know yet.
Level 5 - The xenomorphs or an offshoot make a cameo appearance while the new creatures are now dominating the screen space to show they are the new threat.
Level 6 - Level 8 - More the same as level 5 as in the xenomorphs will only appear briefly, while you mostly fight the new threat.
Level 9 - You’ll take a break from fighting the new aliens. You’ll be reintroduced to the more familiar xenomorphs or the Engineers return. Maybe even throw in a new variation to this old foe to act as a mini-boss.
Level 10 - Level 14 - You’ll face the new alien enemies again but they come back with stronger forms.
Level 15 - Major Boss battle
Level 16 - Level 19 -More or less the same as Levels 10 to 14.
Level 20 - a repeat with level 9 but with the new Alien instead of a xenomorph or engineer.
Level 21 - Final Boss Battle.
@Xenotaris Are you referring to the Greg Land scandal from 2020?
If trhey were to go more comic book, then SKIP MARVEL, they plagiarized from the more superior comic book company called Dark Horse. I feel should the Alien franchise ever go the comic book route, it should be based on the old DARK HORSE COMICS.
I always thought the egg morphing was the original reproduction method. Like for first tens of thousands or millions of years, the xenomorphs would be queen-less.
Then one day maybe the xenomorphs are either exposed to the black goo or natural selection happens then the strongest of the xenomorphs started maturing into queens to get around the limitations of egg morphing.
There is always the force transgenderism, that trans is better then cis?
I am not sure we could look at WOKE as being Purely about Feminism etc, its a Principle that Encompass the Acceptance and Realization of forms of Discrimination where PEOPLE are not treated as Equal and do not have the same Opportunities.
The Alien Franchise has always given us a Female Lead, even before the so called Wokenness Days... i am not sure how any WOKE things could come into PLAY with the New Movie, there are more Concerns about this with the TV Series but i think some against it are Worrying about things too much....
Certainly we had RS say you can still get some LIFE out of the Xenomorph you have to Evolve him.... come up with different ways to Procreate.
So as a Perfect Organism its NOT beyond the Scope that the Parasitic Organism can find other ways to Evolve to Adapt and to Procreate.
The Egg Morph which was the ORIGINAL idea of Procreation could be Explained away as the Method that the Xenomorph would CREATE a Queen.... this would explain WHY the Xenomorph in the DC Version only required ONE HOST to become a EGG and another to become the HOST for the resulting Face Hugger.
@Thoughts_Dreams
Indeed the Potential was there for Expansions... a Story that does not have to be SET in our Time-Line or ALIENS..... we could go to a place 15'000LY away some 250'000 Years in the Past... or another Galaxy...
The Engineers Plot had allowed us to PONDER.... so as of 2000+ Years ago was the Earth the ONLY place that had Humans? The Plot could indicate that WE had NEVER came from Earth.....
Why we could have had David and Dr Shaw go to a FAR FAR Place... one where they could have taken many Years to arrive... 100, 200? Where the events would have NO IMPACT on the Alien Franchise....
So NEXT we could look at the Limitations of the Xenomorph and think HOW can we get around this?
Do you EVOLVE them? Have we seen the SCOPE of any kind of Intelligence to form a like Civilization or are we looking at more Basic Survival Instinct and so much more like a ANT/TERMITE with Greater Intelligence but we wont see them being able to FLY our Space Ships or Build their own!
If you Evolve them to being able to Construct Ships, and have Various forms of Hybrids that have some Combat Capabilities like we see with some of the Alien Species in Starship Troopers... so we would essentially be looking at the Xenomorph in a similar way to the WARHAMMER 40K Faction the TYRANIDS... would this be a GOOD THING?
While it makes the Xenomorph more Versatile and a Bigger Threat then you do go the route of a more Comic Book/Marvel kind of Franchise which wont be too much different to Starship Troopers. But alas its down to DISNEY and their Main Objective would be to MAKE MONEY and to Introduce the Franchise to a Younger Generation and would this YIELD a Good Movie... who knows..
I think that Ridley Scott had the RIGHT IDEAS.... before the Powers that Be wanted to bring us a Movie about the Xenomorph and to give us some Connections to its Origins...
He felt there was ONLY so much you could do with the Xenomorph, he thought he was Beyond the Curve with the Prometheus Set Up... and the Franchise should be like a Star Wars and Star Trek (i think he meant as in NOT limited to a Few Worlds and Humans, Xenos and Synthetics).... The PROBLEM was that going for a Path thats SET in the same Universe as the Xeno and Weyland-Yutani... in a attempt to make a Spin Off... some People are always going to Expect you CANT do this without the Xenomorph and so the Franchise is Shacked by the Beast.
This does not mean you cant have Xeno Movies... you can and it would be Ideal to do so, but what it meant was that you could have Expanded to other Areas of the Galaxy, other Races, Worlds, Conflicts... Time-Zones... the Prometheus Plot had opened the Door to the Franchise.... with so much SCOPE and Potential... where the Galaxy is NOT just about the Xenomorphs.
Chris:
“That's all, I just hope the Alien film is an Alien film and not another franchise poisoned by forced indoctrination to an ideology not everyone agrees with.”
Not everyone will agree with everything. Someone will agree about X and other one will agree about Y, and so on. Just look at the alien-franchise since at least Alien 3, no one can agree about everything if you look at the fan-base. Messages are a part of an ideology, there is a thought behind it even though people might make different interpretations.
“Filler content for the sake of appeasing a minority of viewers.”
Maybe, but then what is filler-content? You can at least put in things to make people think about it, in the franchise you've had war (aliens), prisons and maybe prison reform (alien 3), and WY in the background of Alien (crew expendable, 1979). I wouldn't say that it concerns a minority of people but rather a majority, even though people have different views.
Xenotaris
“What is woke is stating or depicting all men are all evil perverted idiots and women are superior, this is woke.”
I get what you mean but then it's a matter of scale, someone thinks that if you add that amount of support of feminism it's woke, another one thinks that if you add some more or less thing it's woke. Movies are art and art is about subjective things, about thoughts and perspectives and not all have the same perspective.
When you make a movie you got to make it work for you (the writer) otherwise it's meaningless and Alien has always had some progressive topics in it or at least social commentary. They might not intend to say that all women are good and not all men are bad, but you read it like that even though that wasn't their intention. If you make a movie I think that you should go for what works for you, the issue of profit should come after that. Integrity is important
Marvel was alright before, not sure how it is nowadays. Call it woke or not. Not much of a DC guy.
Chris: I agree that it's nice to see new things in the alien-universe, I just don't like the direction that they went with about David. Romulus could be a chance to do new things, I hope that they'll do so. Better characters would be nice and also new worlds. Hopefully they'll add something about the Engineers.
There were things that I enjoyed about the prequels, and things that I didn't like. The worlds were interesting, and also the Engineers. Seeing new monsters related to the Xeno was interesting, so they didn't recycle the Xeno again and again. Unfortunately it all became about David at the expense of both the human characters, and the Engineers, that's where the prequels failed… a lot.
“People don't want to expand their consciousness and ask difficult questions anymore, it seems they'd rather just sit and watch Space Jason Voorhees hack n slash unsuspecting humans over and over again.”
I don't mind those things, I just don't like how the prequels handled it. Asking questions is fine, but you can do so in different ways and the prequels failed. That should have been made through better human characters, and an expansion on the Engineers. Unfortunately it crashed so the prequels kind of buried themselves. You can deal with those questions in a movie, but they need to be handled a lot better than how the prequels did that.
Before i get into the STARSHIP TROOPERS Analogy, i think we have to FIRST look at WHAT is our Xenomorph exactly?
I can not go into what Differences the Games, Novels and Comics have shown us, so i will mainly Deal with the Movies. Which is regardless of if we are looking at a Pre-existing Organism or a Engineered/Created one.
What we really have is a Deadly and Invasive Species which seems to have the Basic Principle to Survive/Procreate, which is what Life-Forms do. In regards to the Xenomorph the Organisms require a Host, they are Parasitic. When they have used a Good Sized Host which can be between a Large Dog to a Human they will Produce a Organism that is Hostile, Large 6ft-8ft Tall (dependent on Host?) which are Deadly and Invasive, there requirement for Hosts means that SHOULD they get into a Populated Area then over time they would Exhaust the viable Hosts in that AREA which means a WIPING OUT of say any Human Population in said Area.
The Great Weakness of this Species is while they are Intelligent they have no means by themselves to LEAVE the Location they take Hold in... those Xenomorphs on LV-426 were NOT going anywhere by their own Means... if we had a Outbreak on Earth on a Isolated Island then in this case maybe they could SWIM to the Shore of other Islands/Mainland... YES... (but can they Traverse a Great Ocean?).
So what i am trying to say is that in CONTEXT to what we have seen if these Organisms are on a World/Outpost then the ONLY way they would Spread to other worlds and Outposts is if ONE should become a Stowaway or if some Humanoid Species takes or attempts to take one as a Specimen to be Transported to another World etc.
STARSHIP TROOPERS is about Humanity having to Deal with a Menace in the Form of a Insectoid Race which comprise of Various Insect/Arachnid like Organisms.
These Organisms have Organic Ships which can take them across the Galaxy and make them a Great Threat... with the XENOMORPH it seems its Restricted to Invading a single Location so if a Outbreak had happened on a Colony Planet then you would send in the Marines etc... and you would have a Xeno vs Marines like Battle like maybe in Starship Troopers, but the Xenomorph has no REAL way to leave this World.
A ALIEN Movie with this Formula would be like a ALIENS meets AVPR... or a Battle like in Starship Troopers when the Human Military go to INVADE the Home-World of the Arachnids... just with Xenomorphs.
The Problem we have is HOW MANY such Movies could you make with the Limitations of the Xenomorph? Even if we go the Space Slasher route like ALIEN and ALIEN 3 did or to a degree Alien Covenant... again HOW MANY of such Formula can you continue to make?
The Terminator Franchise based on the Antagonist Terminators and SKYNET are more Versatile than Xenomorphs and we see that this Franchise has produced more MISS than HIT apart from the First 2 Movies... where even Nostalgia Failed to make a Great Impact.
The Alien Franchise likewise has 2 Great First Movies.... the REST is VERY much HIT/MISS to different People. But it lacks the Versatility that say the Terminator Franchise does... plus that Franchise had the Time-Travel Plot Convenience making it EASY to pull off like Re-boots of sorts.
Ultimately while there are Limitations with the ALIEN Franchise based on the Xenomorph alone... the MAIN thing is down to having a WELL Written Story and having the Characters to PULL it off..... put its HARD WORK to do such a thing for Numerous Movies in a Franchise.
Ultimately like we get New Re-Hashes of Franchises like Evil Dead, Friday 13th and Halloween or Texas Chainsaw Massacre they are Basically the same thing just made in a way to Re-introduce it to a New Generation..... and Essentially to go MILK the Franchise as a CASH COW....
This is HOW i see the New Movie will be i cant see it being anything much Different to what we have seen before.... and IF they make a Movie in Future with more Xenos vs Marines... then maybe this could work... but i am NOT sure you could continue to make such Formula after another.
Starship Troopers was essentially a bit of a GOOF FLICK as in it was NOT as Serious a take on a ALIENS vs Humanity as say the War of the Worlds was, but this does-not mean to say that you could make a Starship Troopers kind of MOLD of a Movie more Serious....
I Fear that the ALIEN MOVIE we could get may NOT be as Serious as ALIEN and ALIEN 3 was.... and ALIENS had a bit of Goof but it was done in the RIGHT kind of Balance..... we just have to HOPE that the New Movie does not be more like THE TERMINATOR...... so say as much Seriousness as a Power Rangers Popcorn Flick.
Big Dave brings up a good point - how many different ways can we show the ferocity and indestructibility of a Xenomorph before we get bored of that same old recycled narrative? I'm hoping Romulus introduces a new angle without being too corny.
This is precisely why I'm so bummed the prequel series got shelved... the universe Ridley Scott was creating was so expensive and had so much potential. People don't want to expand their consciousness and ask difficult questions anymore, it seems they'd rather just sit and watch Space Jason Voorhees hack n slash unsuspecting humans over and over again.
Well if done right, the Starship Trooper angle could be interesting. I was brainstorming on how the xenomorphs could escape from being trapped on a planet.
Like the xenomorphs could make resin towers that lead into space? I doubt the xenomorphs would automatically develop wings unless its host had wings
I still feel the original RS bioweapons idea could still work with the Cameron's queen.
My personal head canon, is that the queens evolved long after the engineers/space jockeys had created them as they slowly evolved beyond their original programming. Kind of mirroring mankind's own eventual situation with the androids.
I wasn't suggesting looking for the xenomorph homeworld. I want to see several undiscovered planets that were devastated by the xenomorphs in the distant past.
I'm all for the Starship Troopers plot, I think it fits the xenomorph
Well the Fire and Stone comics gave an Engineer an energy "minigun" that blasted two humans into oblivion.
I'm still disapointed that they dropped the alphabetical order names for Androids
I would assume so
Really hope this is true!
Looking into the Casting.... it would seem they are going for the YOUNG like GHETTO kind of a Plot.... which may Attract more of the Current 15-30 Year Olds.
I wonder if there will be any Elements of Realism here or some Goofyness like we saw with THE PREDATOR!
Also the PLOT about a Group of Young Adults, who Discover a Abandoned W-Y Ship does remind me a LOT of the Many kinds of Horror Flick were you have College Students on SPRING BREAK who go for a Vacation and Discover a Abandoned Lodge... (or House or Warehouse or Boat etc) and they make a Horrific Discovery.
But like in SPACE...... which could mean they encounter the W-Y Ship in Space in which case we are going to be seeing a ALIEN meets the 3rd Act of Alien Covenant again!
Looking into the Casting it seems that a few could be Infected but some only had a Face Hugger on for Short Period of Time (Alien Covenant showed it does not take long to become Infected). And so they may take a Unsuspected Victim back to their Ship and then things go to POT!
Then we have ANDY the Synthetic.. which seems he could become the Antagonist... is he the ONE who knew what they was getting into and a SLEEPER agent who takes these Young People to where the SHIP is knowing they will become Infected... and all of this is done with the W-Y Knowledge?
Sounds too close to a ALIEN Re-Hash... but maybe thats the Plan a Soft-Retcon of Sorts for the Newer Generation?
The TV Series Plot seems more Interesting apart from being set like 25 Years before ALIEN rather than say 25 Years after ALIENS.
I think thats a Valid Point, it really depends on WHO had Engineered them....
Before ALIENS came along, we could be Drawn to the Space Jockey being a Race who had Engineered these Organisms, for WHAT Purpose... we could not be sure but RS had alluded to them being used as a Biological Weapon.
ALIENS came along and with its Queen and the Hive, it threw the Spanner into the Franchise to PUSH us to Consider the Xenomorph was maybe something the Space Jockey had Merely Stumbled upon (in Camerons Defense... this was the Underline Plot for STARBEAST by Dan O'Bannon).
Before ALIENS and a little after.. Ridley Scott wanted to go back to the Franchise and he was looking at the Xenomorph being more Advanced than we saw in ALIEN and looked like he may Explore the Back Story of the Starbeast... but then he was also Toying with them being merely a Weapon and so he would have Explored the Space Jockey Race.
While James Cameron wanted to go back to a Xenomorph Homeworld and saw them as their own ALIEN SPECIES... which would mean the Space Jockey had attempted to take Specimens away but he ONLY got as FAR as LV-426.
If we go the Engineered Route then you left to ASK?
1) Was the Xenomorph the Desired Result of Engineer Experiments? or some Accident?
2) What Organism had Originally Predated all of this, was it the Deacon or was that just another Experiment?
3) Were these Experiments something Sanctioned by the Engineer Hierarchy or a Rogue Element? (This could help us indicate if there would be ONLY the One Outpost LV-223).
Regardless of IF we have just ONE ORIGIN and Outpost, we cant ASSUME that the Derelict was the ONLY SHIP that had EGGS that had Left the Outpost...
Going the David as the Creator Route does leave a lot of Hurdles... like HOW would he Load up Multiple Ships and WHAT was the Space Jockey Relation to David and his Agenda? The ONLY Solution that makes sense and would be more easy would be the Engineers Discover what David had Created and they then Collected them and MASS PRODUCED them even maybe Evolved them so we got our Eggs on LV-426... but maybe others could be elsewhere too?
I think it depends on WHAT they do with the Xeno-Origins.... its Pretty Messed Up at the Moment, yet the RS idea makes Perfect Sense.
Did the Xeno Originate from somewhere else?
If it Originated from LV-223 or Planet 4 then we could ask.
a) Was LV-426 and Planet 4 the ONLY place these Experiments had Ended up on?
b) What was the Origin of the Xenomorph DNA, if it came from another Organism then WHERE was this Organism Obtained from?
Another things comes down to the TIME-LINE... its been a bit Mish Mash since the Prequels.... Prior to them and IGNORE all other Formats.. it was a Case that at some point the W-Y company was aware of something on LV-426 and so Special Order 937 was then Set in Motion and we got ALIEN.
Did the Company just draw a BUST after this? WHY had they NOT gone back to LV-426.
When we get ALIENS it seems that things ONLY kicked off when Ripley had informed them of the Xenomorph and the Company sent the Jordens to investigate, HOW did the Company not be aware of that SHIP so close to the Outpost?
After Aliens/Alien 3 we had to ASSUME that there was NOTHING to be Gained from LV-426 or anywhere Else... which is WHY the USM company had to Resort to Clone Ripley DNA to Obtain a Queen (yes Silly Plot).
But then the SCOPE for another Movie or Comics and Games are Limited with such a Time-Line and Locations etc... and so EACH had Various ways to Deal with this and Bring back the Xenomorph.
The Question is HOW do you do that without Conflicting the Movie Franchise and well the Prequels had kind of caused a Conflict for some...
But then its HOW do you do this, and HOW can you bring back the Xenomorph and NOT have it be Similar or the Same to anything we have seen Before.... this is WHY i think ALONE the Xenomorph is Limited.
I think its hard to say because thats Exactly what a Xenomorph does... runs around and KILLS FOLK..... the only Difference comes from Alien DC and ALIENS where it shows there main Objective is to Capture Hosts and keep them ALIVE so they can USE them to Procreate.
If you are ONLY going to Encounter a single Xenomorph or a Handful then it does depend on the Preparedness and Weapons/Training of the Humans. With Alien we never saw the Xenomorph put under Threat.. they NEVER used any Weapons for Fear of the ACID BLOOD and a Hull Breach. some had said due to how it was shown in ALIEN and ALIEN 3 that the Xenomorph should be nearly Indestructible.... now this would be a BIT SILLY if you had Numerous Xenomorphs as HOW does Humanity Cope?
With Aliens, Alien R and the AVP Movies we see the Xenomorphs can be Dispatched with NOT too much Difficulty.... leaving them to rely on Stealth, Speed and Environment.
I bring this UP in regards to the Movie as it depends on HOW TOUGH the Xenomorphs are VS the Number of Human to Xeno Ratio and what Military Training and Weapons the Humans have.
Looking at the Plot we are NOT going to be in for what would be like a ALIENS meets AVPR... maybe we would see a ALIEN/ALIEN 3 which would be a Horror/Slasher kind of Gorefest...
Sadly this is the Limitation of the Xenomorph... you have a Space Jason Voorhees as ONE kind of Scenario or a Bug Hunt/Starship Troopers in the other...
So you have to kind of FIND the Middle Ground.... and ALIEN R minus the Queen and Newborn could be that Answer, or Alien C.
Wait wouldn't that give the synthetic player an unfair advantage over the players of the other species?
As a Enemy i think Synthetics would provide to be a more Tougher Opponent, when it comes down to a Playable Character it depends if the Game is a FPS etc and so YEAH what i said would be a Unfair Advantage over a Human, but then the Predators have a Unfair Advantage also... so you would have to find a Balance.... for Example a Synthetic maybe would NOT show on a Yautja Infa-Red Vision.... they would also NOT have a Aura around them for Xenomorph Vision... but you could have Instances of areas with HIGH Magnetic Fields or Technology that is like a EMP that has a Adverse Effect on a Synthetic.
"they would play similar to a Yautja, just beefier, but I see your point"
I think to a degree yes, it depends on the Technology i think Unarmed then the Engineers should Inflict more Damage and yet NOT sustain as much, but i feel you have to give the Yautja more Agility and Speed. Then i think the KEY would be their Technology you have to make it so they are NOT too Similar in HOW their Tools/Weapons Perform.
You also have to be Careful to NOT make the Engineers Tech too Powerful as Especially if its in a Multiplayer VS Role but this could be effected by the Numbers Game.
The Movies seemed to indicate the Engineers as having NO WEAPONS... as such... and for such a Ancient Species you would IMAGINE at some Point they had Weapons... maybe they Advanced to a Point they were at Peace with each other and they knew other Species were Technologically going to NEVER be a Threat and any that shows SIGNS of Advancing would be taken Care of by their Biological Warfare.
But do we ASSUME they are so Naive? to think they have NO THREATS in the Galaxy? And so you have to Expect they would have other kinds of Defensive/Offense measures.
Especially for a Video Game as you cant have them Limited to walking around and Throwing and Punching everything... they are a Advanced Race and so would likely come up with Weapons.
But maybe their Power Lies in how Ancient and Evolved they are so they have more Advanced Brains and so would have some kind of Super Powers, like the Jedi Force?
I think anything is OPEN with regards to them as they have NOT been Fully Explored so the Door is OPEN as far as Powers and Technology/Weapons but yes you have to come up with some kind of Balancing... it could come down to them being FEW in Number.... i mean a Xenomorph Queen would be Powerful if every Player could Choose to be one.... so the limited Numbers could Balance things.
Yeah we need a new xenomorph world that isn't LV-426
I like to think if the xenomorphs were an artificial creation then there would had to be xenomorph production-centers scatter across Engineer/Space Jockey space.
You don't make one weapons factory or warship drydock or tank/plane assembly line.
Please, I hope this is a good movie. I hope this movie isn't a run of the mill/gorefest slasher movie in space using the ALIEN name.
"In Terms of a Synthetic would be the same as a Human, i would disagree if the Game Mechanics would take into account that a Synthetic would be Quicker, Stronger and more Resilient than a Human. If you was Playing as a Synthetic then you could have things like Night Vision as Standard. Have the Game FPS like Slower a bit so that Attacks and Shots from the Enemy are say 10-20% Slower so the Player can React Better to them.... this would give the Player a Advantage and Portray the Quicker Reflexes of a Synthetic."
Wait wouldn't that give the synthetic player an unfair advantage over the players of the other species?
"And so i dont think they would PLAY like a Yautja it depends on HOW you deal with their Technology."
Well I meant they would play similar to a Yautja, just beefier, but I see your point.
Regarding the NAME.... it depends if this is a Working Title....
If the Title remains the same then we cant Assume to have connection to the Romulus Legend... it could have Vague Connections or NONE at all. If you try and Read into the LEGEND... then you could maybe be drawn to David and Origae-6 but i DOUBT this Movie will be Connected to the Prequels at all.
Hopefully a New World.... and NOT going back to LV-426
I think Disney are doing a kind of RESET with the Franchise, i am NOT sure we will be touching upon the Prequels at all.
We know nothing much about this Movie, the Plot seems a bit like ALIEN COVENANT, i can only go and Assume its Premise is similar as in we have a Smaller Group of Humans (20s and 30s) looking to Colonize a New World.
The Plot i can only ASSUME would be similar to Alien Covenant with the Following Changes.
1) Maybe this World is Uninhabited a Virgin World and so like Planet 4 from Alien Covenant if say there was NO ENGINEER CITY!
2) It would thus be like Alien Covenant had the Crew came to a Virgin World as far as NO CIVILIZATION, but at some point they come across some PLACE where there will be XENOMORPH EGGS.
So i can Assume it would be like if Alien Covenant had those Eggs in a Cave or something and there was NO CITY, NO DAVID and the Covenant Crew had began to SET UP their Habitat and then they make a Horrific Discovery and so it would be a bit like Raised by Wolves (Minus Robots).
Will it Connect to the TV Show? Will it be its OWN THING? we just dont know.
Is it a Alternative Canon or not? again we cant be sure at this Point. We have NO IDEA of what Time-Line the Movie is SET IN..
"@BigDave › Do you think that the Engineer thought of 'immortality' like we humans do?"
I think its Hard to say for sure... it depends on HOW it was that RS wanted to Portray them. It seems that they saw Immortality as in a way to Procreate, as in they likely had NO RELIGION as FAR as a Immortal After-Life.
And so they would see the way they would LIVE ON would be to PASS ON their DNA and to Teach their Knowledge. The Engineer in Question either saw that Mankind was a Inferior Creation who he found was a INSULT to Demand some kind of Immortality.
Or he was a Engineered Creation used for a Purpose like say Replicants are, and so when he saw Weylands Demands, he maybe saw in Weyland, his own Creators and Masters who maybe his kind had Rebelled against.
The Engineer seemed to take PITY on David, maybe that he saw himself in David as he was a Creation like David was to SERVE, and if these Enhanced Engineers are Superior to the Alien Covenant Engineers which they appear to be, but they are Servants of those Engineers, then YES... the Engineer could have seen a Similarity in David. And so would see this Old Man Weyland, who is Dying and thinks he has the GIVEN RIGHT to be Immortal because he Created David, the Engineer likely seeing this as a Insult in how Weyland reacts and treats David who is a Superior being...
Ultimately the Engineer would realize the Potential of Danger that a Advanced being like David could pose, as the Engineers posed this Threat to their Creators and so the Engineer could NOT allow David to Survive and so he also had to GO!
Regarding the Immortality Aspect... the Background to the Engineers from Concept, was they were ONCE like Humans, they had Advanced in ways to Prolong themselves, but they was NEVER really Immortal... but it was SOMETHING that they had been working to become... to be on the VERGE of something where they would Transcend from their Organic Bodies.....
Back to David... he is the CLOSEST to Immortal.... he could UPLOAD/SAVE his Synthetic A.I Soul.... thus be able to Re-incarnate himself... if a Human was able to Transcend their Soul/Memories to a A.I Storage like say we see in the MOVIE... The 6th Day.... and then UPLOAD this to a Synthetic like David then THIS would be a way for a Human to become Immortal of sorts.
I would like to think the Engineers had tried this or Similar.... maybe the Xenomorph or its Progenitor is something they saw as being the KEY to this Immortality?
The Closest we have seen to what i Propose is RIPLEY 8 she is a Clone, that has retained some of the Memories/Soul of Ripley... was the Xeno-DNA the KEY?
If so this would Explain a Better Interest from the Engineers in a related Progenitor.
I think thats a Possibility yes....
Did the Destruction of Hadleys Hope, go and DESTROY the Derelict? We cant be 100% sure, it would seem the Intention was this....
The Problem we have is Alien Resurrection, as IF they could Obtain a Specimen from the Derelict after 2180... then it kind of makes NO SENSE to attempt to Clone Ripley in order to Obtain a Specimen.
Speaking as ONLY in Terms of the Movies.... then you could go back to LV-426 and see if there are Viable Eggs to be had, or would they NEED some Experiments to be able to Obtain a Specimen (for Example have they suffered Damage or Radiation etc).
But i like to think we NEED to get out of that BOX that the ALIEN MOVIE Franchise has been Stuck in.....
Question...... Was LV-426 the ONLY place that these Ships had Visited?
If we go the route the Xenomorph is a Engineered Weapon (David or Engineers) then can we ASSUME that the Derelict was the ONLY Ship that they had been Loaded onto?
If they go the Route that the Engineers/David had NOT gone and Created the Xenomorph and they are a Pre-existing Organism, then you could GO to where they came from... but having this be LV-426 would be a COP OUT!
Its Nice to hear that, and hopefully the Cinema can recover and get back to what it once was.
I have to agree with Thoughts_Dreams on this one....
Looking at the Gaming Franchise, there does-not seem to be too much of a Difference in HOW they Play.... I think yes you could have some Different Xenomorph Hybrids/Mutations so that they OFFER something Different to say the Xenomorph from ALIEN/ALIENS. But i am not sure HOW like Groundbreaking this would be.. and its been done before.
Fire Team Elite did add some other Monsters based from the Prequels which i think has Potential. But if just vs Standard Xenomorphs then i think it would become a bit Limited and Repetitive.
So adding other Enemies to the Mix gives some Variation, within Context to the Franchise you would have Rival Human Interests...and yes you can add Synthetics, but also some Synthetics do-not need to LOOK so Human (take Alien Isolation as a Example).
In Terms of a Synthetic would be the same as a Human, i would disagree if the Game Mechanics would take into account that a Synthetic would be Quicker, Stronger and more Resilient than a Human. If you was Playing as a Synthetic then you could have things like Night Vision as Standard. Have the Game FPS like Slower a bit so that Attacks and Shots from the Enemy are say 10-20% Slower so the Player can React Better to them.... this would give the Player a Advantage and Portray the Quicker Reflexes of a Synthetic.
I would also not say a Engineer would Play the same as a Yautja (Predator), a Yautja would have a Speed/Agility Boost over a Human as well as Strength, and then they have Various Enhanced Vision due to their Technology but its their Weapons/Cloaking Tech that gives them a Advantage.
We know so LITTLE about the Engineers... they were Intended to be 10ft Tall (down from 12-15ft) but alas as RS did-not want to use any Special Effects etc we Basically had 8ft Engineers suited...and Unsuited it would appear we have a 7-7.5ft Tall Humanoid.
What we have seen from Prometheus, is the Engineer suits do offer a Considerable amount of Protection and so would take more Damage than a Yautja. I would say it showed the Engineer to be Stronger than a Yautja also.
But we need to bare in mind this is the Military/Clone Engineers from Prometheus we are talking about. Which appear to be Genetically Engineered/Enhanced versions of their Race, much like a Replicant is to a Human.
When it comes to Weapons, Tools and Technology then the SKY is the LIMIT, as these Engineers are Millions of Years ahead of Humanity and so Potentially their Technology would be more Advanced than the Yautja.
And so i dont think they would PLAY like a Yautja it depends on HOW you deal with their Technology.
