That's interesting because there was something about the way Weyland was standing during his speech that seemed off to me. His feet were pointed out like he was doing an imitation of Charlie Chaplin. I wonder if he is Hephaetus.
ReplyGreatBoosUpPrometheus ForumPrometheus and The Greek Titan ConnectionFeb 28, 2012
Perhaps Peter Wayland is Hephaestus, the Greek Titan who created Pandora, who also fashioned himself a wheeled chair (remember the shot of Shaw falling to her knees with an elderly man seated in a wheel chair in the background?)

I can dismiss the age difference as vague writing, but how odd is it that the Weyland website is from 2073, at the latest?
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus Forum2023 is waaaay too soonFeb 28, 2012
I think the point of the speech was there are certain great achievements that helped to create technological advancements. Once we harness a certain technology it causes an exponential growth in many fields. If we succeeded in making a humanoid computer that can theorize and calculate the high math of physics 24/7 and replicate a better smarter faster model of itself with which it can collate with it could change the way the world looks in a very short time.
Weyland wants investors so he can start creating a super computer android smarter than any human could ever hope to be and who will live forever. Once created these machines will manipulate reality in ways the human mind is incapable of understanding. The question is will they help us catch up or decide we are neanderthals and a waste of time ?

Plus - this video is part of a 50-year celebration of the 2023 Ted Talks - suggesting that this is being posted as though it was actually 2073...
does that help?
from the "Weyland Corp" page: "Considered a seminal moment in the career of our founder Peter Weyland, this 2023 TED Talk launched Weyland Corp into the international spotlight.
To honor this historic event, Weyland Corp is planning to offer a new round of investment soon. Interested parties can expect to find out more within the next few days."
ReplyGreatBoosUpPrometheus Forumanother hint that blue man is a jockeyFeb 28, 2012
I thought "Prometheus" was the name of the ship. The blue man/space jockey is an alien being and not a Titan from Greek mythology.
Size doesn't enter into the discussion. If the space jockeys created man and gave him technology, then that's a better analogy.
Again, 20thcenturybuick types out some random thought without any arguments to defend his ideas. He can't even be bothered to use punctuation or capitalization. I think the admins should ban him from posting to the discussion boards until he can communicate like an intelligent person.

Yeah the time line suxs. I agree whole heartly. But it's just another corner the series is boxed into. Just like the SJ dead in the chair. Makes no sense. Only thing we will have towards next decade is over $5 gas and a jug of milk right up there. The cost of creating this stuff just isn't there. Also I'm sure my posting to this thread will kill it. an error? nonsense..they called the titans...they were giants of men...the jockey is about 3 times our size. error? bullshit its an obvious connection
ReplyFrantzPrometheus Forumanother hint that blue man is a jockeyFeb 28, 2012
There are no hints that the SJ is the Prometheus .... and the rappresentation of the Titans as Giants is probably an error ( if you watch all the paints Prometheus isnt bigger than a man )

Eh, true. We were going to have flying cars and stuff by the year 2000. It's 2012 now and all these technologically-feasible things, such as nanotechnology and cybernetics, are too rare to even be noticed by everybody.
Though there is that Large Hadron Collider, which was supposed to kill us all in 2008 as part of some experiment of epic proportions to generate some blackhole or something (some physics phenomena named after some guy), but we've not been hearing much about that. As for the whole "killing us" thing, that's actually some fearmongering people were spreading just on account of because.
Anyway, I guess 2023 is quite soon. Hell it's only 11 years away from now. But do remember that this is a work of fiction, even if some of what we will see is plausible.
ReplyflacnvinylPrometheus ForumYutani - What do we know?Feb 28, 2012
I have a confession... I watched AvP and thought it sucked. Real hard. Serious serious suckage. When Requiem came out I read a few reviews, downloaded a torrent and skimmed through it. Looked like complete and total garbage. I am completely offended (not just 'grossed out') by the scene with the alien and the pregnant woman. Alien did not start off as a 'horror' flick, but thats what Requiem is. If there is some kind of a crazy birth scene in Prometheus, it will advance the plot, no matter how grotesque. Shaw laying the first egg would explain a ton. Requiem explains nothing. Its just monsters attacking people in the dark.
Now that I've gotten that out.. Can you save me the hassle and tell me what happens with Ms. Yutani. Anything meaningful?

If it's a breathing tube then I'm sure that anyone inside that room will have to worry about being sucked in or pushed out all because of that hole. It doesn't look like there's anything to hold on to, either. xD

Wyland+ androids +no remorses company are already elements of Alien and we find them in this video too .... so im not sure if that mean a link to AVPs ( even if there can be a sense of respect by Scott to not damage much the 20th century fox's alien franchise )

Yeah, seems like he is more ambitious than his father was. I want to say they are just using the name and that is it. I don't think Scott wants to stay far from the AVP canon and post Aliens canon...but it is Lindholf who wrote it and well, he can throw a twist and turn every page...

ReplyCrazyDave55811Prometheus ForumYutani - What do we know?Feb 28, 2012
Isn't Yutani a Japanese conglomerate (combination of corporations)? I think they merge with Weyland sometime prior to Alien, thus becoming the familiar "Weyland-Yutani" to be featured throughout the series, until Alien Resurrection which claims that Weyland-Yutani was bought out by Wal-Mart.
Ms. Yutani is featured at the end of AVP Requiem, but I won't blame anyone here for disavowing that movie and its canonical contributions (I haven't seen the movie, and I understand it sucks hard, more than the previous AVP).

ReplyCrazyDave55811Prometheus Forum"Cybernetic Individuals"Feb 28, 2012
A bit of Blade Runner in Prometheus? I don't see how that's such a bad idea. Already there's going to be a theme about David, the android, being part of the whole deal with "What are our origins?" and for an android to put his/her take on it would be interesting to those willing to lend an ear (metaphorically-speaking).
However, let's not get too confused with the different definitions......a cybernetic individual is a human, grafted with mechanical parts, thereby making him a "cyborg". Crude example : Donald Rumsfeld could technically be a cyborg, all because he has a cochlear implant. But that's all he has; I wouldn't call him a cyborg unless he has exoskeletal elements grafted onto his body.
And as such, an android is a machine, built to be like a person, and if all goes well technologically, that android can be totally indistinguishable from a human, especially if that android requires nutritional subsistence, or if that android is capable of genuine human feeling, consciousness, and perhaps even conscience. As for android blood, well, most Alien fans will reference white-colored blood.....well, blood-substitutes are a field being experimented with, and there are some recent fictitious representations of artificial blood.
Oh, and as for Prometheus taking place at around the same time of Blade Runner? Who knows. Will we see the Tanhauser Gate that Roy mentioned? If we notice any references I'm sure they'll be mostly because Ridley Scott is the one helming Prometheus, and he may've thrown in Blade Runner references because Blade Runner was his. Directors do that sometimes (I think).

@ High Priest - I agree with you about the egg chamber being in the derelict, but this thread is not about that, and thus there is no call for it to be locked. If you actually read the original post you'll learn this thread is about a new theory about the Derelict I devised when thinking of a plot for a story set after Alien 3...
And you posted your response 3 times dude, not twice lol

In that tweet he simply says they have picked and chosen which ideas they like and it seems they like the Charles Weyland idea, remember the website link is weylandindustries.com and the company portrayed in AVP is called Weyland Industries, there is no escaping that.
And age wise (with the video supposedly being recorded March 2023) he could be old enough to be Charles Weyland's son, and seems cut very much from the same cloth, but it looks as though he has much bigger sights for the company doesn't it lol.

@brego -
The eggs were in a chamber beneath the Derelict!!!????
O.K, The Derelict just so happened to crashland on the exact same spot where there happened to be a secret underground chamber with - get this! the exact same architecture and design of their very own ship! Now that is an amazing coincidence!
OF course the eggs are in the derelict dude. OK so there is a slight "continuity" problem in the movie where the chamber looks larger than the ship would be, but come on! Anyway this thread has been discussed to death - Lock it up! The eggs are in the derelict - end of story!

It is safe to say from reading Spaith's tweet, they are picking and choosing what they will keep in the canon and dump what they did not consider important to the story, to their story..so I think that they are steering far from AVP and the rest of the series and perhaps used some of Cameron's story, the company name of course and very little after. These guys are telling a new story, yet in the same universe and keeping the bare bones and adding new flesh to the canon...
